GOP increasingly balks at calling Jan. 6 an insurrection

You are assuming that those who took a plea deal are the top of any conspirasay. They may very well be minions too. Facts are neither us has a clue and are both only expressing uninformed opinions.

True-- but either way they are not pleading guilty to any role in an insurrection.
So that would still need to be proved against the other person. Whereas such a plea is evidence against that other person.

All that typing has zero to do with the fact that the definition of Insurrection fits what happened on 1/6.

Calling it a ministerial act does not change the fact that it it required by law and mandated to occur the 6th of January.

It is part of the election process.

Charges of Obstructing Congress are indeed fitting in this insurrection.

Yes-- and there are people being charged with obstructing the work of Congress.
As it should be.
No insurrection.

It was a riot.
If the votes weren't counted that day, they would have been counted a different day.
The votes are counted that day (or the next) by law. The insurrection (noun, a violent uprising against an authority or government) was an attempt to prevent that count from taking place.

Yes, it was.

Insurrection

Noun

a violent uprising against an authority or government.

It was violent.

It was against an authority or government.

That isn't how it generally works. If the feds have him on sedition, then you have him plead guilty to sedition under the terms that he says who and what the others guys did in the sedition.
That confession is evidence against the other guys.
Then you give a reduced sentence etc.
I hope you're not a lawyer.

So we have obstruction of Congress.
Not an insurrection.

An insurrection is a violent uprising against an authority or government.

It was violent.
Small amounts of violence and clashing with police are not uncommon in protests

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Police union: Over 140 officers injured in Capitol siege

In other words it was violent.

It was an uprising. No. You cannot make that word stretch far enough.

What stretch? Did they or did they not attack Congress?

It was against the branch of the government confirming President Biden's election win. Also typical of protests

What is not typical is attacking Congress. You do know they attacked Congress. Right? And they attacked Congress trying to stop the certification of the election. Also something that doesn't happen in mere protests.

Game, set, match. Insurrection. Assuming your conclusion is a logical fallacy.

Incorrect.
Interesting that no one calls the Trump Inauguration Day riots an insurrection.

All the electoral ballots were certified by their respective states; Biden was president elect in December.
That's the election process.

No, no, no....

3 U.S. Code § 15 - Counting electoral votes in Congress

Congress shall be in session on the sixth day of January succeeding every meeting of the electors. The Senate and House of Representatives shall meet in the Hall of the House of Representatives at the hour of 1 o’clock in the afternoon on that day, and the President of the Senate shall be their presiding officer....

Why do you insist on being WRONG?

For those of us who were around during Watergate we can still remember all the downplaying then too.

History gonna be really bad for a traitor/crook/instigator named Trump.

Try domestic terrorism with insurrection over tones
There is way too much interference coming from right wing think tanks and the GOP regarding bringing charges ASAP.

I'm hoping a slight delay of charges forthcoming based on what we saw on camera is because of wanting a tight case for grand jury indictments.

Shaner said her clients had poor educations and knew very little about the country. Her two female clients took to the task with zeal, Shaner said, and got library cards for the first time in their lives.
“Both my women are like, ‘I never learned this in school. Why don’t I know about this?’” Shaner said. (A couple of the male clients weren’t quite as eager students, she said. “The men are very much like ‘Oh, I’ll get to it.’” But she said some of her male clients have been doing some self-education.)

In other words, typical members of the GQP base...
