Google has racked up some 2 undecillion rubles ($2.5 decillion) worth of fines in Russia after years of refusing to restore the accounts of pro-Kremlin and state-run media outlets, the RBC news website reported Tuesday, citing an anonymous source familiar with court rulings against the tech company.

As this sum wildly exceeds the total value of the planet earth and everything on or in it, it is unclear exactly how Russia plans to collect.

Edit: napkin math suggests that if the entire mass of earth were converted into gold it would still fall short. Other materials like Plutonium fetch a higher price per gram, but converting the entire earth into a huge ball of plutonium would end very badly.

Another reason to question the legitimacy of all things Putin and Russia.

Shall we discuss again Putin's claimed reasons for invading Ukraine?

Russia should go ahead and print $2.5 decillion worth of rubles and inject it into their economy. I'm sure Google is good for it. :D

Is it even legal for Google to pay fines to Russia while Russia is under American sanctions?

Google should just wait a couple of years for the rubble to crash and then pay the $10 fine (sarcasm)

Does anyone want to do the math to find out what that is in USD?

Now THAT is how you control the info that Russians see.

With the way the rouble is going that will sum up nicely to around $2.75.

Google can do many things but they cannot issue any national currencies. Maybe they can make their own crypto.

Good luck on them paying up. I sure as shit wouldn't. Russia doesn't deserve money.

Erm, just no.
Is there even that much money in the whole global economy?

Given that GDP of Russia is 2.02T with -2% growth in the past 9 years and continuing to crash!

How much is that in us dollars? 85 cents?

By comparison US GDP is 27.72T and 57% growth in the past 9 Years

I am not an economist, but I think Russia needs to rethink its Economic strategy!

If you owned every single unit of every single currency produced in human history, as well as owned every single product produced by every single person in human history, you would still not have that much net worth.

Based on the search results, the war in Ukraine is costing Russia significantly in multiple ways:

1. Direct military costs:
- Estimates suggest the war costs Russia between $500 million to $1 billion per day [3].
- Ukrainian estimates put the material cost from destruction of tanks, planes, and weapons at around $5 billion for just the first two days of the war [5].

2. Economic impact:
- Russia's GDP growth is expected to shrink by 7% instead of the 2% growth forecast before the invasion [5].
- The Russian stock market declined by 20% during the military buildup [3].

3. Increased military spending:
- In 2023, Russia's military and military-industrial complex will receive almost 10 trillion rubles ($120 billion) from the budget, which is three times more than before the war [4].

4. Sanctions and international isolation:
- Western sanctions have severely impacted Russia's economy, limiting trade and investment [1][2].
- Russia faces difficulties in accessing high-tech components due to sanctions [1].

5. Human capital loss:
- Russia faced a record shortage of factory workers in July 2023, with more than 43% of industrial enterprises facing a shortage [3].

6. Long-term economic consequences:
- Macroeconomic stability has worsened [1].
- Foreign trade and Russia-bound investment have dried up [1].
- The economy is becoming increasingly dominated by Kremlin-connected elites, leading to increased crony state capitalism and kleptocracy [1].

7. Opportunity costs:
- Even if Russia wins, it cannot afford to rebuild and secure Ukraine due to financial costs and continued isolation from global markets [2].

The overall impact is so severe that some economists argue Russia's economy cannot afford to either win or lose the war, leading to a potentially protracted conflict [2].

Despite the horrible human casualties. This Ukranin/Russia war is a gift to Europe and the United States to seriously cripple Russia for the next 20 to 40 years. This is the United States cheapest way to cripple one of the US greatest enemies!

I just added that word in there because I was not in the mood to be brigaded by tankies bringing up random bits of trivia about WW2 or pretending that everyone except Russia is a Nazi.

Russia under Putin becomes a bigger joke by the day.

Let’s get one thing clear. Russia or its people is not a U.S. enemy. Its corrupt, autocratic, murderous, expansionist, warmongering mafia led by Don Volodya is America’s enemy, as well as anyone who hates tyrants, too. That should include Russians.

I 100% agree with you...Russian people are not the enemy but dictators and Tyrant such as Putin will force the people to become the weapons that enforce their will. To defang tyrant effectively we need to turn the people against the tyrant. By prolonging the war and effectively destroying the Russian economy is a good way to do that...since invasion of a country with nuclear weapons is not an option.

Putin should have just pushed for a fine of twenty centillion.
