I nominate the lack of border security/enforcement.Which policies are those?

Fair enough. How is that impacting your life?I nominate the lack of border security/enforcement.
I'm reserving judgment until they are done negotiating, but from what has been reported I am not optimistic that the BBB will be a good bill. How can you say that? Do you know what is in it?
Why would that be? If it is passed, it will provide benefits for Americans that were not provided before, in areas that America is lacking. I agree that it is tough to argue a 'mystery', but whatever is in it, is something President Biden was elected for saying he would do.I'm reserving judgment until they are done negotiating, but from what has been reported I am not optimistic that the BBB will be a good bill.
What has President Biden done that is worse than the unqualified jurists ramrodded onto the federal bench during the last administration?I voted ole' "Pull My Finger" Joe the unmitigated disaster he is.
Until leftists realize the disaster they voted for - merely because they hated Trump - is doing far more damage to this country than anything they could scarce imagine Trump ever doing... well, it's not going to end well; and that's for certain.
From what has been reported so far, we are most likely looking at a bill with no Paid Family Leave, a stingy Child Tax Credit with work requirements and strings attached that expires in a couple years anyway, and virtually no effective subsidies for renewable energy (instead it will be a pork bonanza for all forms of energy). Even the tax increases to pay for it look likely to be pulled or nerfed in the final bill. Why would that be? If it is passed, it will provide benefits for Americans that were not provided before, in areas that America is lacking.
Well, I guess you can just lay down and die now because that ain't going to happen. First, as sovereign nations why would they do what we want them to do. Second, we're not going to war to take them away.I opposed the infrastructure bill but I never supported Xi in any way whatsoever. I live for the day the U.S. can destroy the regimes of China, Russia, North Korea. Iran and Syria and their weapons of mass destruction (as bloodlessly as possible).
We might not have a choice. China, Russia, and Iran will make the first move against the United States.Well, I guess you can just lay down and die now because that ain't going to happen. Still butt hurt over the Senate's Normal Order? It's really time to get over that, you know? What has President Biden done that is worse than the unqualified jurists ramrodded onto the federal bench during the last administration?
Fair enough, but reports have pretty much been consistently inaccurate regarding this bill. Even if it was as described, would you prefer no Child Tax Credit (I don't believe you'll see the work requirement attached)? From what has been reported so far, we are most likely looking at a bill with no Paid Family Leave, a stingy Child Tax Credit with work requirements and strings attached that expires in a couple years anyway, and virtually no effective subsidies for renewable energy (instead it will be a pork bonanza for all forms of energy). Like I said I'll reserve judgment until it's finalized. But right now, my impression is that Congress has opted to do a bunch of things badly, instead of a few things well.
I also have my doubts as to how much we even need to be throwing more money at some of the things in the BBB right now, while we are in a booming economy with high inflation and a supply crunch. It's probably time to pivot to supply-side liberalism, where we focus on making things more abundant and less expensive, rather than on helping people buy more of them.

I'd agree with that assessment.my impression is that Congress has opted to do a bunch of things badly, instead of a few things well.

I would prefer no Child Tax Credit to one that was designed badly (e.g. work requirements, strings attached, bureaucracy). But I'd be OK with a Child Tax Credit that was smaller or more temporary than I wanted, as long as it was designed well.Fair enough, but reports have pretty much been consistently inaccurate regarding this bill. Big spending bills to help people buy more stuff seem to mostly work when the economy sucks, unemployment is high, and inflation is low.High inflation? Only because we've been close to zero for years. 5.4% is above where the fed wants it (2-3%) but wouldn't be considered high historically. I also believe much of this inflation is transitory because of the supply chain mess.
Because they want to face the strongest military in the world? Not a chance. China will take Taiwan and there is zero we can do about it, so we won't do anything about it but complain. If Iran or Russia left their borders to move on America, they would be destroyed long before they could imp[act the US. Are you suggesting that they would use nuclear weapons on America? We might not have a choice. China, Russia, and Iran will make the first move against the United States.
Are you referring to regular order?Still butt hurt over the Senate's Normal Order? It's really time to get over that, you know?
I concur. One spot I will differ with you on is the impact of more money supply driving inflation. That has not proven to be the case over the last decade plus. I heard an economist the other day (sorry, didn't catch his name) considering that more debt equals inflation to be a piece of conventional wisdom that isn't as accepted as it has been previously.I would prefer no Child Tax Credit to one that was designed badly (e.g. work requirements, strings attached, bureaucracy). But I'd be OK with a Child Tax Credit that was smaller or more temporary than I wanted, as long as it was designed well.

In the opposite situation, I would argue that they are at best wasteful spending, and at worst will push inflation even higher. I tend to agree that inflation is mostly transitory right now, but disbursing even more money like this will make it less transitory.
With that said, a couple years of relatively high inflation won't be the worst thing in the world. But it does mean that we should reevaluate some economic priorities.
Which of the specifics I mentioned are on the wrong track?I'm with the vast majority of Americans - Biden is not doing well at all.

As Biden approval slides, voter fears mount about direction of country
More than two-thirds of Americans – including nearly half of Democrats – believe the United States is heading in the wrong direction nine months into President Joe Biden’s term, according to a new poll, and it is not clear if advancing key aspects of Biden’s agenda will help dig him out of that...cbs6albany.com
Whatever happens, they are not “paying illegal immigrants for breaking into the country,”any more than Donald Trump was paying students at Trump University for cheating on tests when he settled their lawsuit. We created liability by our treatment of illegal entrants, specifically the blunders involved in child separation. Whether or not they could sue or get payments, whether or not that is advisable, the words in quotes above come from the Tucker Carlson School of Commentary.Just the latest.....Biden, when asked about the paying of illegal immigrants for breaking into our country illegally, said it's not going to happen, it's all bs......next day, oh yes it's going to happen and gets mad at a reporter for asking about it. One day to the next, a total flip flop.....so, who's telling ole Joe what to say or not what to say?.....what happened during the primaries, when ole Joe was all but gone and out, then suddenly the others dropped out and let him have it?.....was a deal made, and now we can see something is going on behind the scenes? If others are directing ole Joe what to say, what not to say, what policies are enacted, then there needs to be answers, for they were NOT elected to be the president, right?
Only if you don't understand what communism is...Mainstream Democrats act like Communists, so I'm sure you can understand.
Yes, people like money so much that they hate to see it wasted on BBB. Despite what Bernie Sanders would have us believe, most people oppose BBB. The last poll I saw support was only 36% - roughly 1/3.
Yes. the Senate's Regular Order. Are you referring to regular order?
The Senate is not in regular order. Are you trying to make a point?Yes. the Senate's Regular Order.
Get over Garland already was my point. The Senate is not in regular order. Are you trying to make a point?
That wasn't even what I was talking about. But it is good to remember that the Senate under R leadership abdicated their advice and consent responsibility under the Constitution.Get over Garland already was my point.
Well, then, I guess I missunderstood. OK. Happens in forums. That wasn't even what I was talking about.
