Glenn Beck is a jerk

You keep telling people that, while the rest of us learn just how dangerous you progressives are.

And don't do anything logical, like addressing what he actually presents... just keep on launching the personal attacks. It's exactly what we expect.

I think most liberals fear that Beck is contributing to a society that eggs on people like Byron Williams, as this editorial suggests. Also, I'm sure you recall that Beck said he was an entertainer (a "rodeo clown") and not a real journalist, and a lot of real sensible people get angry at the idea of people getting their news from a rodeo clown. It's a lot like the Republicans who get angry when liberals say they get their news from Jon Stewart -- equally stupid.

What does Beck represents? He represents a new wave of small government conservatives who are embracing the new media with old school tactics in an attempt to take back the Republican party or to make libertarian candidates a viable third party option. That's a far cry from the neo-conservative brand of behind-closed-doors, big-government, limited freedom, hard-right commentators like Hannity. I think many liberals fail to understand this. I also think that there is growing segment of the American public who believes that half-truths Beck tells them and gets all riled up at nothing. That can be every bit as dangerous as knowing nothing at all.

this one:

Goldline International is under investigation by the Santa Monica City Attorney’s office, jointly with the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office, as well as being the subject of a separate investigation by Congress into the possible criminal practices. The firm has been the subject of an ABC Nightline News exposé, as well as an investigation by NY Congressman Weiner.

Jess Bachman, who did several of the fantastic illustrations for Bailout Nation, turns his graphic expertise to the Glenn Beck/Goldline endorsement scheme...

lol.

Gold - Glenn Beck-endorsed gold company busted for shady practices

What "shady practices"?

Don't you find it odd that they are going after a gold company with such a high rating and not the ones who have lower ratings? Gee, I wonder why they chose THIS company.......................

Tell us about those "half truths" will you?

Then you can write another attack on conservatives and Glenn Beck that's nicely disguised as "intellectual" commentary.

BECK: I hate this S.O.B., and the more you learn about this guy, the more you will too. This is the most evil guy I think we've had in office. 1916, Woodrow Wilson won re-election in part -- large part due to a commitment to keep America from entering World War I. One of the campaign slogans boasted, "He kept us out of war." There was a very strong anti-war sentiment in America at the time. Americans -- if Americans favored a side, they would have gone with the Germans, because Germans were the largest ethnic group in America at the time. Most people weren't paying attention; the Germans were. OK. So on the eve of asking Congress to declare war on Germany -- yeah, remember, he ran I'm not going to get us into war -- it was a month later -- I've got to give you the exact date, because this is amazing: 1916, he was running for election. 1917, his inaugural address, March 4, 1917, he said we're going to pursue peace and even though we have been injured by the effects of war, we're not going into war. That was March 4, 1917. April 13, 1917, America goes to war.

So did Woodrow Wilson have a desire to enter WWI, but kept it secret so he could win reelection?

You mean the Gold company that has an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau?

Tons of ripoff companies have good relations with the better business bureau. I've worked for a couple.

Re: Glenn Beck's History of World War I

I don't know... What I do know is, that quote from Glenn Beck was not a "half truth", it was the absolute truth.
What he said may very well be the truth, however it was misleading. He left out facts that led to our participation in WWI, but I think you know that.

He allows racism to rear it's ugly head under the guise of dissent. Very sad.

ahhhh.... racism??? I dont get that from him at ALL. An ass-clown? Yes! Racism? NO!

I think we can all find good things and BAD things in each ethnicity / race. I think that term is used WAAAAY too much BTW.

August 3rd: Beck compares Tea Party activists to black people being persecuted. He blames the holocaust on progressive thought. He calls Theodore Roosevelt the first progressive. He also talked about sterilants in drinking water and implied that our leaders have consistently had no ethical opposition to secretly sterilizing people. That's really stupid.

He constantly calls Obama a Marxist, which is clearly not true. He called the health care bill socialist, which is stupid since it had no public option.

In the same year, Beck said both: "no matter how hard the health care system tries to keep you down, I'm back," and later said "America has the best health care system in the world."

He accuses the Obama administration of systematically stripping free speech when he was talking about some garbage political group in 2008 who were attacking Obama. It's just absurd.

7/11/2007: Beck says that animal gas produces more co2 than cars or coal power plants. That's not a half-truth, that's just a lie.

10/26/2009: Beck says that net neutrality is the code name the liberals give to allowing Obama to take over the control of information. I'm assuming that I don't have to explain how stupid that claim is.

9/9/2008: Beck says that the truthers want to destroy America. Do you believe that?

1/12/2009: Beck says that "almost everyone who believes in global warming is a socialist." Uh.... ok....

Ok, I'll stop there but just finish this up with a few examples and an explanation of what I'm saying. Beck tells us that Democrats are all socialists. He says Obama is trying to destroy America. He says that global warming doesn't exist. He says that people who don't buy health insurance will go to jail. He told Fox News viewers that secret internment camps might exist in America... he can't disprove it. He says that there are fewer poor people in the United States than there were 30 years ago... but then he says that we have the worst problem with unemployment since the Great Depression. Whatever he says isn't said as a journalist -- it's simply to take the facts and skew them in order to make a point.

Like when Beck got called out for lying on the View. He said that seats on a train were improperly set aside for Barbara Walters and Whoopi Goldberg. It was a complete lie that he made up because it illustrated a point. That's just what he does.

I think my criticism of Beck has been very fair and I think I've done more than an adequate job backing up my opinion. And if you think that being fair and specific equates with faux-intellectualism, that speaks volumes about why you would excuse Beck's liberal standard of factual reporting.

So then Germany's resumption of submarine attacks against American merchant ships operating in the Atlantic and an attempt to ally themselves with Mexico to help recoup land lost during the Mexican American War weren't reason enough to declare war against Germany? Both of these obviously impacted President Wilson's decision to call on Congress to declare war against Germany since there was no longer any tangible chance of peace. The omission of specific details such as these are par for the course for Glenn Beck when it comes to explaining history.

While you're at it, please also find in President Wilson's second inaugural address where he insists that the United States will not enter the war in Europe.

I'm curious, Grim17. Do you hold it against President Bush that he sent troops into Afghanistan and Iraq? After all, he campaigned on the promise of a humbler American foreign policy.

The company never guarantees the value of their gold, so techincally they would be in good standing, however the company coupled with Beck highly suggest to viewers and listeners of Beck's shows that he could no them no wrong.

Huh?.......

Sorry, could do them no wrong is what I meant to say.

There's one thing you don't seem to understand. Beck's show on Fox and his radio show are two different things. Beck often exaggerates for comedic purposes on his radio show, which will never be mentioned by attack sites like Media Matters.

Show me the "half truths" on his Fox program.

The entire show? The fact that when he is doing his little class sessions he links two things that are totally different subjects together and have no connection?

Did you read what I said? I watched clips from his show last night in order to respond to you the first time -- that's from his Fox show. Almost everything I said was from his Fox show and I don't think any reasonable person could walk away from watching an episode of that show with the belief that he has attempted to give a "fair and balanced" assessment of the facts. It's all opinion that often contains half-truths and blatent lies. They're trying to make us sterile with drinking water? That's what he said last night! Please. I said elsewhere that he's nowhere near as bad as the Hannity brand of neo-con opinion show host, but he's certainly not the poster boy for good journalism. I backed up what I said and if you want to dispute that, go right ahead. End of story.

The quotes you posted, with the eception of possibly one, were not from his Fox show:

Since his show on Fox started in late January, 2009, that means most of those can't possibly be from Fox.

This is true, Beck hasn't been on Fox all this time, however Beck originally started out on CNN as a self-proclaimed comedian taking light of politics. Eventually he morphed this into what he disguises as facts for political gain. Quoting a Wikipedia entry (however it has two sources): Eric Burns, the former host of Fox News Watch, has also been very critical of Beck, whom he refers to as "Huey Long without the political office", "Father Coughlin without the dour expression", "John Birch without the Society", and "an embarrassment to all true conservatives.

The guy is a clown. Conservative or not, you should take everything he says with a grain of salt. Typically when he gets in trouble for what he says he laughs it off and says he shouldn't be taken seriously. However, he is very contradictory and goes right back into serious mode on his various gospels.

Jealousy is such an ugly trait.

No, what ugly is this guy shapes the minds of Republicans and conservatives now--a guy that proclaims himself to this day that he is more satirist than someone that should actually be taken seriously.

I don't take him seriously. He makes good points but he's a shock jock. Anyone who takes him seriously is a well nevermind.

Seems around here the ones who take him the most seriously are the liberals. I guess that's because he is a threat to the progressive movement.

That's the whole point, he hides behind that cover, but then he does stuff like 9/12, Tea Parties etc and THOSE times he wants to be taken seriously but when it doesn't fit his needs he backs off from it. The guy is dangerous, and many people can't distinguish him from a real journalist because of the dangerous melding of entertainment and information.

I think most people are smart enough to know when he's exaggerating or being sarcastic and when he's real. And, he's never claimed to be a "real journalist", so why would anyone think he is?

You know that's false though. Most people that follow the guy around treat him like the real deal. If he was really behind his whole political satire excuse, then why don't they at least add a laugh track to his program to show as much? The guy is absurdly serious all the time.

If he meant to jest he would do just that, say things in jest with a wink and a nod, but he doesn't.

What's ugly are the mushbrains that ALLOW Beck to shape their minds. I can't blame him for taking a fool's money. If he don't, the next guy will. He's playing them like a fiddle.
