It appears to me that some of these threads have nothing to do with Education. Education should be at the top of the learning list. Parents should start preparing their child for school at the age of three, and by the time for the child to enroll in pre-school its shoul know its ABC's or count to 20. The problems in today's educational system is everyone thinks they know everything and don't know ****. I do not support Teachers or Union strikes, due to the fact that the strike is only affecting the Students, and most School officials don't show concern anyways. Right here in the school district that I live in the head count is low, and the MEAP test scores was the alltime slow. The District School Board has misused and abused school funding over the years. The text books is so outdated until Students do not read them, and many Students can be found hanging out at MickeyDees or Burger King when they need to be in school learning. From Washington down to the local LSCO, and from the Parents to the Students education should be number one. Many Students leave home going to school each morning, but how many Students actually goes to School, and how many Parents really know that their Child is going into the classrooms? Many Students that I have met since serving on the local school organization committee tells me about some of the experiences that their Brother or Sister had on the job market after earning Asscoiates and Bachelors degrees in college. One student said that his Brother went to a job interview, and was told that he was over qualified. That's why its so important for individuals to complete High School, and major in a college course so they can set up their own business. Again....Education is a must.

I agree. Now go to the chalkboard and write 500 times, "Getting AN education isn't a joke."

Getting an education may not be a joke, but the public school systems in many states are one.
Different things work for different people, and IMO not everyone is capable of succeeding academically in a public school environment, and this is in no way a reflection on their intelligence.
It seems to me that the majority of public school high achievers are possessed of mediocre intellects, at best.

Agreed.

To some extent. Often sucess in a public school environment is the result of a number of factors including intelligence, motivation, parental involvement, and the quality of the school system. Motivation seems to me to be the biggest factor in attaining public school sucess, though this is linked to intelligence.

Absolutely disagree. Mid-level to mid-high-level achievers, perhaps. These may be the students who are average intelectually, though excell through motivation and hard work. I don't think that it is fair to judge these students harshly. As far as the really high achievers go, these kids tend to be towards the top both intellectually and motivationally in their particular school system. I'm not sure what makes you believe otherwise.
