Well what about mowers, trimmers, etc?

To assist with the transition, the County is offering rebates for the purchase of new electric leaf blowers.
Yeah, if you are going to ban the use of something I paid for, that rebate better be the full purchase of the blower I would want. Top of the line! With a spare battery!

Good point but:

Sales of gas-powered equipment have been banned since July 1, 2024, and the ban on their use begins in just a few weeks, effective July 1, 2025.

The government banning the use of (a personal property item) X renders X useless, which should be considered to be taking X. Taking X should require compensation, but what’s the ‘proper’ value of a banned (aka now useless) X?

More liberal progressive BS. These people are sick.

Not going to get the oomph with an electric blower!

Just by chance, because the gas model was sold out years ago, I bought an electric.

It's the bomb. I use it as a leaf blower, an edger, and a hedge trimmer (all on the same batteries).

It's so freaking cool.

I hate those things. The racket they make is worse than a chainsaw.
But I don't think they ought to be banned by the government. Just shun that jerk neighbour who's spoiling a nice, pleasant Sunday afternoon.
Shun him! Shun him!

Have electric mower and tiller. Still on gas for trimmer and blower. From my cold dead hands dammit! :ROFLMAO:

I use to have a gas model. The electric model is way less trouble.

I don't have to worry about if I have gas and I don't have to change the oil. And mine is just as strong as any gas model I've seen.

Classic political bait and switch, pretending that inside a county in Maryland forcing electric leaf blowers does something for the "environment" and "health" when 40% of the state's power comes from natural gas with another 5% from coal (aside from another 40% from nuclear.)

It is symbolic, feel-good, and does little to nothing about the environment or health.

BTW, if battery powered (as opposed to cord) don't get me started on everything needed to get to the point of a battery someone feels "green" about.

Good to see things like this happening.

I have battery a powered 21” push mower, string trimmer and blower, but mostly use my gasoline powered (48” deck tractor or 54” deck zero turn) mowers.

So, because a state has not gone completely "green" then any single step toward it is BS. Got it.

You neighbors are not entitled to breathe cleaner air. They are not entitled to peace and quiet. Got it.

Any politician who says otherwise is lying.

Incredibly stupid. Worried about mowers and trimmers and blowers and allow the rich, famous, and powerful politicians to fly all over the country in a private aircraft. Whose is getting screwed? Middle America who shouldn't have to pay ridiculous prices for EV's or electric mowers because somebody lies about the damage being done to the environment. The result is the government helps companies owned by their friends and then own stock in those companies.

The point is allowing (any) government to effectively take private property with little or no compensation. Offering a (highly conditional) rebate of about $100 to ‘help’ buy a product which costs about $300 is grossly inadequate.

I doubt these measures have much to do with “green” and more to do with noise in neighborhoods.

Gas powered leaf blowers are much more loud than electric ones.

They don’t belong being used in suburban neighborhoods when there are quieter options that aren’t nearly as much of a nuisance to neighbors.

There are towns that have banned those horrible things years and years ago. I hate them with a passion. Praying for a nationwide ban.

It’s really not about “green” - it’s about how loud and annoying they are.

I doubt there is much of a difference in how “environmentally friendly” either are.

If you really care about being environmentally friendly? You wouldn’t be blowing around leaves in the first place, you’d rake them up and/or mulch them up so they decompose as intended and fertilize the soil.

So, even under the worst-case assumptions it's roughly a 55% improvement?

And that's just not good enough for you for some reason?

How about letting the voting public vote on all these green initiatives? If they don't want it, it doesn't happen. Afterall it's government for and by the people. Seems the people are not getting much say.

That’s a problem with representative government - once elected those representatives have the power to do as the majority of them please.

BTW, the Fifth Amendment to the Constitution requires the government to provide "just compensation" for the property taken. This compensation is typically the fair market value of the property.
