I cited a poll, Washington Post poll that asked Q: Do you think the Democratic Party currently stands for something, or just stands against Trump? The view expressed in the poll was by Americans as a whole. The way America as a whole is now beginning to perceive the Democratic Party. That if I were a Democrat I would start to take notice of. A slight majority of Americans 52% perceive the Democratic Party as being just an anti-Trump Party and not standing to anything. Perhaps it is time to start rethinking their strategy?

For the Democrats to take back the House, they must win the independent vote or at least keep it close since they have the larger base. But independent at the moment only 32% of them think the Democrats stand for something. 55% think the Democratic Party is just the anti-Trump Party and does not stand for anything of substance. That is their perception.

That perception may not matter in the midterms if independents are very angry at Trump. But it very well could if the midterms instead of being a referendum on Trump, it becomes a referendum on the political parties or on each congressman himself. In that case instead of an anti-Trump midterm, it could turn into an old fashioned, "I love my own congressman, it is the other 434 that are the problem," election.
