When do you absolutely prefer frying something over the other options? Ever? Always?

Are there any foods that really REALLY taste better when they're fried?

What foods are BEST fried?

Edit to add: by "fried" I mean cooked/boiled in some kind of oil/fat

Potatoes! French fries, home fries, hash browns, hot and fresh with the perfect amount salt, nothing better. I also love mashed potatoes, baked potatoes and roasted potatoes. But fry those suckers and you've reached a whole new level of deliciousness.

I agree.

Another obvious choice is of course bacon.

Although I don't consider bacon to be "fried" in the same way french fries are fried.
Same with hash browns. Not exactly the same "frying" as french fries.

But no need to nit-pick here is there?

I prefer catfish and okra fried, breaded with corn meal or masa.

Are we restricting to just deep fat frying, like how fries and such are made, or do other things like pan frying work?

Burgers absolutely should be fried in a pan.

I'm not nitpicking.

Burgers should be grilled.

Everything is better fried. I even tried to poot into the fryer yesterday to see how that would turn out, but I couldn't get it to work. Maybe I'll try again today.

Absolutely not. Grilling burgers removes the fat, makes them drier than when fried. No more than 80/20 and pan fried. It's the only civilized way to make a hamburger.

Chicken fried, then allowed to cool to room temperature.

Most red meats, grilled.

Potatoes are much better fermented

Grilled. With a few exceptions, always better.

Potato

I grill everything. Red meats, chicken, veggies. Don't get me wrong I love fried food- had fried pickles with lunch yesterday. But my meals, I gotta go with marinating steaks in balsamic vinaigrette and grilling them.

Hell no! Last time we were in Disney I tried a shot of Aquavit Glacier at the Norway pavilion in EPCOT. That crap tasted like liquid death.

When you want to make a sauce frying is often the better way to go unless you want to fry some extra meat or fish just for the taste seems more than I would normally want to do. Also it is better to make Wienerschnitzel on a grill or boiled does a bad job and deep fried is not quite right.

Pork Tenderloin fried and on a sandwich,, Used to be a big thing in the mid west ( and may still be ). Used to go to downtown Lafayette IN. to a restaurant and have the BEST tenderloin sandwich ever, That was in the 70's and I was a young kid. I have tried all my life to duplicate that breading and taste but never have.

Most/all seafood, in my opinion, should never ever ever be fried.

Broiled. Steamed. Smoked. Grilled. Boiled. <--- all yes.
(I don't consider pan seared scallops to be "fried" - but if somebody wants to be picky I'll grant that one exception)

Most meats should be grilled, smoked, or roasted in the oven.
Chicken would be my one exception. Especially if it's beer battered and deep fried.

Pan fried steak, drizzled with butter...mmmm. You can even finish it in the broiler with some onions or topped with an excellent cheese.

Still is, though more in the Plains than the Great Lakes area.

Steak I prefer grilled.
Hamburgers I can go with pan fried or grilled.
Fish I like grilled
Ribs and brisket I prefer smoked.
