French authorities are searching for links between the stabbing of a soldier outside Paris and the brutal killing of Drummer Lee Rigby by suspected Islamic extremists.
The French soldier was stabbed in the throat yesterday in the busy La Defense shopping area near the capital. The 23-year-old’s injury is not life-threatening, the Interior Ministry said. His attacker is still on the run.
President Francois Hollande said the identity of the attacker was unknown, and warned against jumping to conclusions about the assault .
[h=1]Knife attack on soldier in Paris treated as terrorism[/h]French anti-terrorist investigators are handling the case of a soldier stabbed while on duty in Paris on Saturday evening, prosecutors have confirmed. The soldier was wounded as he patrolled the French capital's La Defense business district with two comrades.
Private First Class Cedric Cordier was approached from behind and stabbed in the neck with a small-bladed knife.
Defence Minister Jean Yves Le Drian told reporters that he had been targeted because of his profession.
His attacker, said to be a bearded man of North African origin, escaped and a police hunt is under way.
Funny, having read a few immediate reactions to the UK story where posters doubted it was "terrorism" - the French seem in no doubt.
If it barks like a dog, wags it's tail like a dog, smells and behaves like a dog - it's a dog.
London: Machete terror attack.
Paris: Cutter terror attack.
French refinement FTW.
FTW... "For the win"... After having 3 armed soldiers being attacked by a man with a box cutter, and the man still manages to escape unscathed, I wouldn't be proclaiming ANY kind of win for France right now.
It would be difficult to lose harder.
Homegrown terrorist went as far as to take the French leave. And people say they do not assimilate? BS.FTW... "For the win"... LOL, attacking uniformed, armed soldiers is terrorism. Jesus you guys will call ANYTHING terrorism.
D-Day was one of the worst terrorist attacks in history, huh?
And how the HELL do 3 armed soldiers get attacked by one man with a knife, and he still gets away?
You'll point out the military dress of the attacker in Paris to clarify your position?
You'll point out the military tactics his attack fall under?
If I (as a civilian) walk up to a soldier and punch him in the face - am I at war with his country? Am I obliged to operate under Geneva rules?
Your D-Day analogy is one of the most foolish statements I've ever read on the internet.

So the bombing of the USS Kohl and the Fort Hood shooting were not terrorism because they were military targets?
President Francois Hollande said the identity of the attacker was unknown, and warned against jumping to conclusions about the assault .
The uniformed French soldier was on a group patrol during a national protection programme when he was attacked from behind by a silent assailant, prosecutor Robert Gelli said.
“There are elements - the sudden violence of the attack - that could lead one to believe there might be a comparison with what happened in London,” interior minister Manuel Valls told France 2 television. “But at this point, honestly, let us be prudent.”
When attacking an armed uniformed soldier while he's on duty is terrorism the meaning's getting a bit stretched.
P.S. there was bound to be a copy cat attack, more on the way probably.
Now we have to watch out for a guy with a knife or machete on our streets..
You say that like knife attacks are some new phenomenom. Unless you live in some kind of Alice in Wonderland type world where reality is turned completely on it's head, knife attacks are not just something that's been happening for the last three days......
Unless you're only worried about the possibility of ones carried out by Muslims of course.
I'll give you a giant hint here. A knife attack is not cool and has the ability to kill someone. By anyone.

Correct. In war, you get to attack the other side's troops. That's... sortof how it works. Our soldiers shoot at Al-Qaeda members, why would it be terrorism for them to shoot back?
Ft. Hood was treason and murder brought on by espionage. (and he deliberately shot unarmed people, which I think would also be a war crime) Those are all terrible things, but they are not terrorism. Hell, US intelligence services routinely get Al-Qaeda insurgents to turn on their buddies. Are you saying the CIA is a terrorist organization?
USS Cole is even more straight-forward. It was a destroyer. A heavily-armed military vessel. We sank quite a few Japanese destroyers in WW2. Terrorism? Of course not. Warfare.
