French Brie: $24.99 a lb

Yeah - one is American and the other is Brie.
And I think they both taste delicious. In other words, I am quite happy with the American brand.
 
Well, the French also eat snails, which are just slugs in a shell. How hungry do you have to be to eat a slug?

Have you ever had snails served in the traditional French way? Not going to say it is a favourite, but they are rather tasty, plus all the special plates, forks etc make it a bit of fun.

The point of Trump's tariffs is to lower our standard of living by: draining and squashing the private economy with tariff taxes, driving prices up, and in forcing you to buy inferior and now more expensive American substitutes if available.

In the mind of the mad King, killing access by the hoi polloi to quality products (as opposed to access of billionaires) is a virtue and the harder it is to enjoy life the better Trump likes it.

As someone who sometimes cooks for the pleasure of trying to occasionally make outstanding dishes for friends, I understand your frustration. American supermarket cheese is an anemic and bland substitute for the European cheeses - just as American merlot is a weak and inferior product as a red cooking wine compared to French Cote's Du Rhone (sp?).

Killing todays everyday access to the things which only the rich privileged could afford 50 or 60 years ago is where Trump is leading us to. "The good old days" to Trump.

What a shame, perhaps one day we can tell our grandchildren what we were once we could afford to buy, and not considered exotic and unaffordable before Trump.

Fantastic stuff. Warmed and served every Christmas Eve here along with 7 fishes.
 
So have I. They’re still slugs with shells.
I doubt that slugs could be chewy. Snails not done well are.
I eat oysters on the beach, raw, and that's probably more like the texture of slugs.
 
An aged Vermont cheddar is to die for as are Wisconsin curds. Beyond that American cheese is basically an edible oil product....which admittedly has its place. As for snails, when done right they are a fabulous treat. My favourite way is simmered in white wine and herbs and then placed in a mushroom cap , drenched with garlic parsley butter and broiled until bubbly

America has some very high quality foods including cheese. But it is often overshadowed by industrial processed bland crap

We prefer camembert, the good stuff, and we don't care about the added tariffs. We are willing to walk the way of the felon.
 
I had snails at Tavern on the Green many, many years ago. They came in a deep dish and every one was in its own little orifice drowning in mostly butter, I think. I liked them.
