Communications arm? Fox & Friends recites misleading GOP press release on stimulus

Fox & Friends hosts Brian Kilmeade, Steve Doocy, and Gretchen Carlson parroted a House Republican press release and repeated its claim that the stimulus impact is "6 million jobs shy of what the administration promised us" since the administration stated "that 3.5 million jobs would be created. And, in fact, the United States has lost 2.7 million since the stimulus plan." However, the administration estimated that by 2011 -- not September 2009, when the 2.7 million job losses since February were recorded -- 3.5 million jobs would be created or saved by the stimulus compared to the number of jobs that would have existed at the end of 2010 had the government not passed the legislation.

Again this shows why FNC is not a legitimate news network. The 'report' these idiots are talking about is really a press release from the ranking member of the House Ways and Means Committee. For those of you who don't know, 'ranking member' refers to the head person from the minority party--meaning the top Republican in the committee. (some ranking members are former Committee Chairmen--a very bitter pill to swallow)

Anyhow, this is Fox and Friends acting as a communications agent for the GOP. Disgraceful. Lower than low. And calling it a "report"... Fair and Balanced, my ass.

I sometimes tune into the F&F in the a.m., I don't know why anymore... Maybe I just have a fascination with nitwits pontificating...

For those who care to actually read before commenting, the article does a good job of showing what F&F did and also vetting the flawed logic of the press release.

Their press release was flawed - citing future 2010 estimates with current 2009 facts.

But so is the presumption that anyone can predict, within margin of error, FUTURE job gains/losses, especially when trying to create jobs that currently don't exist - in future projections - on the hopeful upswing of a recession and economic splash.

It should be understood that all of the esti*mates presented in this memo are subject to significant margins of error .... Our esti*mates of economic relationships and rules of thumb are derived from historical experi*ence and so will not apply exactly in any given episode. Furthermore, the uncertainty is surely higher than normal now because the current recession is unusual both in its fundamental causes and its severity
- the Administration on this "3.5 saved/created" projection.

Even they admit it's practically impossible to figure out, especially since we've never experienced it before.

I'll make a note on this issue and tack it to my "mark my words" wall and reference this in a year from now when we have actual statistics to refer to. It'll be interesting.
*tosses the crystal ball back to Tiresias*

LOL...the Libbos can't figure out what story to go with to explain away the failure of the Porkulus package. How embarressing is that? Now, Media Mutters flat out lies about what PBO said the objective of the Steaformus package realy was.

This is especially embarressing, when the estimated job losses for next years is 2.3 million...:rofl.

Let's do some math. Math isn't my forte' by any means, but this is 2 +2 stuff.

Ok,

There have been 2.7 million jobs lost since Febuary.

The CBO estimated that another 2.3 million jobs will be lost next year.

That's 5 million jobs.

Now, the Robulus package is supposed to save, or create 3.5 million jobs...in three years, after we've lost 5 million jobs in less than two years. We don't even know how many jobs are going to be lost in '11, yet. Out here in the real world we call that, "taking one step forward and two steps back".

And ya'll piss and moan about FNC? Really?

Ok, I'm about to give up on these libs on this board. No matter how many times you specify which programs on fox are actual news, they try and cite morning shows and commentary shows as "lies."

When the libs here get their heads out of the sand and show me ONE quote from the Fox Report that is biased, then I will listen. Or one of the other ones listed as NOT POLITICAL COMMENTARY.

Otherwise, you aren't worth the bandwidth.

Even "opinion" should be factual when you're dealing with news - that's a gimme.

I see this as a mistake - and a ridiculous issue to pick a beef with (picking a beef with number and whether or not they accurately portray what will or will not happen in the future)

What is this, now, an episode of "Flashforward" - did we all konk out and see ourselves in 2 years and now we're debating what we did and didn't see.

But, you have to admit it's entertaining to watch them wring their hands and soil there Batman underoos getting all worked up over it.

I see the attack FOX talking points have been recieved well by the liberal ground troops.

Yes, actually, it is! :rofl

Ahh the typical right wing method... attack the source, attack the person, attack anything but at all costs avoid the original story... pathetic.

Attack the source? What else is left to criticize?

The story is a joke, just as Media Matters credibility.

You are kidding right? That's about all you do.

No I am not kidding. Look at this thread. Instead of looking at the evidence and disproving the evidence aka debunking it, you and your fellow right wingers attacked the source, attacked the posters who agreed with the OP and so on.

While I admit I more then once have attacked a source it has almost always been based on issues with the source and the material in question, not solely because it was "X" source who posted it. Only exceptions are things like WND who have a reputation of posting conspiracy theories as fact.

Like it or not, if Media Matters is correct, and they usually are correct then Fox & Friends ****ed up. I can not find anything that contradicts Media Matters evidence in this case.

You can't prove a negative. If you make an accusation the proof is on YOU to verify it is actually true, not on someone else that it is false. MM isn't a valid source. Cite something like the AP (I know, they don't do reports on media bias, but it's just an example) and then we'll talk.

If I say, "Oranges taste better than apples" there is no way to prove that right or wrong. If the OP thinks that Beck was wrong then thats fine. Beck wasn't taking a test at the time so nobody really cares. No way can someone "prove" that Beck was right, as its an opinion to begin with. Cited sources would be yet more opinions.

This entire thread is a joke. A man is entitled to his opinion. No source is going to ever debunk that. If GB had said, "ABC is a network based out of Hawaii!" then that could be proven wrong with facts. But when you're talking about opinions you can't prove one way or the other so why bother?

I was thinking this was the GB post. I should say had the people on F and F said the thing about Hawaii, but everything else I said remains unchanged.
