Lets compare Red States vs. Blue States. Wanted to do states close in population, but politically opposite of each other. New York voted for a Blue President since 1988. Florida has gone Red 8 of the last 11 presidential elections.

Population - Florida 21.78 million , New York 19.84 million
U.S News And World Reports Best State - Florida 10th, New York 20th
WalletHub Best States - Florida 7th, New York 3rd
Scholaroo Best States - Florida 9th, New York 19th
Education - Florida 42nd, New York 6th
U.S News And World Reports Health-care - Florida 27th, New York 9th
Best Attractions - Florida (Beaches, Disney World, warm weather), New York (NYC, Upstate NY mountains, rivers and lakes)

My sources: Education / U.S News and World Reports / Wallethub / Scholaroo

Both states have identical poverty rates and all of them have below 5% unemployment.

Let me get this straight. You off best attractions but not best museums, theaters concert halls and opera houses?

You dont offer any business related criteria, like NYC is the financial capital of the world and FL is the money laundering capital of the country.
You dont compare property values?
You ignore mass transit and infrastructure?
You don't speak to career opportunity?

Yeah, college kids prefer to drug and drink in FL. The family likes to go to the theme parks but other than that the place is a shit hole.

Florida for the weather. New York for the society. But it must be said, I've never been to either state.

Florida for the weather? Lol
If you want to live indoors and enjoy hurricanes.

In fact this is false. In fact, wtf? This is ridiculous.
No.. It's not... Upstate NY economy is in the toilet.. Except for a few exceptions.. Late Placid.. Lake George.. Saratoga... Tourist spots..

Most of upstate NY is a joke.. I know, I was born and raised there.. I still have many friends and family up there..

You said low cost of living. That is what I challanged you on.

Yes, the red part of NY is a shithole. But its not a cheap shithole.

I can buy a very nice house upstate for around 200k..Downstate where I am? You can't buy a house for 200k if it was on fire...

I guess it's according to what 'cost of living is'...

Bullshit

Moved to upstate NY entering middle age stage of life from lifelong southern New England residence. Extensive exposure
to mid and south Florida since 1986. Also lived in Manhattan four years until 20 years ago.

My first impressions of NY and FL were similar compared to S. New England. NY and FL seemed like police states, toll road infested,
less educated and less wealthy "man on the street" ... people encountered in the course of the day.

Manhattan, except for the cops and entrance and exit tolls, exposed me to best educated and wealthiest general public I ever expect
I'll encounter.

NY cops, town, state, and county sheriff's deputies all doing traffic stops. Florida gave me similar impression. There had been no county govs. in my New England home state and the state police stayed on state highways and interstates. I've been stopped by state and local cops in my current southeast state at least ten times in 20 years but only ticketed in a stop once and another as a result of an accident on the interstate. Here, local cops conduct speed traps on the interstate, popular practice aimed at Sunday church goers due to weekday congestion and no state patrol except in rural areas.

The vibe in NY and FL is the traffic stops and tolls are revenue sources and expect to be ticketed if stopped and often. Frequent parking tickets for Manhatten car owners who park on the street but ticket judges suprisingly responsive to appeals I filed.

If I lived in NY again it would be in Manhattan but I'd want to be wealthier than I was last time. South shore Long Island beaches are
nice and not that distant if you have a car.

An irritant in FL, aside from the dingy prominence of numerous pawn shops, was the Publix bogo policy required the double purchase and my current state has a law prohibiting that requirement.

BTW, I'm living in a red state and confine myself to public discussion of politics with non-white strangers and I'd advise this
in FL, as well. Despite the climate, I was advised by south Florida residents that permanent residents only do spring and summer
beach related activity in spring and summer.

Nope... I live here.. Not BS at all.... Upstate NY is a completely different world from downstate.. Both politically and economically..

When I spent a weekend attending a wedding in Saratoga in '85, I was shocked at local conversation advocating for
secession from NY Metro area. Red upstate and LI resulted in this McCarthy (circus) caucus majority.

I hate Florida and always have.

I lived in New York for many years, and consider it home, so my answer is easy. New York to live and travel.
For some reason everytime I travel though New York I run into stressed out rude people. Why is that? And a lot of the towns look run down.

Oh yeah.. Upstate NY has been talking about secession for decades.. But they don't realize about 80% of the state money comes from downstate..

If they secede, they would be worst than Mississippi..

Upstate is run down... Use to huge manufacturing.. But they all moved to China.. So now? The only jobs are Walmart, McDonald's, etc..

Not just tourist spots .... the Hudson River Valley to Saratoga is prosperous .... the Mohawk River Valley and Southern Tier (the rust belt part of NY) less so, but some of those areas have come back a bit.

I know.. I live in the Hudson Valley
. Very prosperous here.. I was mostly talking about the Mohawk valley and north..

Considering the cost of living in the entire state, the median income is not enough to live on. Segregation herds all lowest income
residents into where there is semi-affordable rental residences, some bus service and state social safety net offices. Most towns of size deindustrialized and nothing replaced the jobs or the disposable income formerly spent at now also defunct local businesses.

Median household income $75,157

vs, $61,777 in Florida

I know all this. Good God. I am arguing but one point, that it is cheap.

Worse? No. Still it would be a shit hole but worse than MS. No.

My Hudson Valley experience included Newburgh, Middletown, and Port Jervis. I lived near but not in Newburgh.
The erection of the Beacon Bridge killed Main St., Newburgh because the former ferry service was responsible for motorists
waiting to cross the Hudson and shopping or eating on Main St. while they waited, the ferry slip being on the west side of
the Hudson at the foot of Main St.

In the 70's perhaps half the local police force was caught robbing the stores, such as Sears, and there were numerous prosecutions.
Main St. was boarded up, 25 years ago.

Upstate is supported economically by strategically placed state and federal prisons, a classic system of political patronage.
Otisville has both state and federal. Dannemora would cease to exist without Clinton Correctional, a state prison once home
to Charles "Lucky" Luciano. The problem is the distribution of prison jobs patronage sentenced the families of the prisoners to
seperation, most of the incarcerated and their families being from the far away NY Metro area.

This was a solution instituted after the circa 1971 Attica prison massacre, (consider that all red states imprison 2X to 2-1/2X the incarceration per capita of the state of NY !)

If you like the outdoors? Adirondacks are great.. Lots of Lakes.. Lots of trails.. Lots of fun..
