(CNN) -- A Florida pastor Thursday called off his controversial plan to burn copies of the Quran on the ninth anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attack.
The Rev. Terry Jones of the Gainesville, Florida-based Dove World Outreach Center, standing with a Florida Muslim leader, also said the imam who planned a mosque and Islamic center near ground zero in New York has agreed to move it to another location. But the imam who appeared with him said that Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf in New York agreed to speak with Jones about possibly moving the center.
A spokesman from Soho Properties told CNN producer Vivienne Foley that "the Muslim community center called Park51 in lower Manhattan is not being moved."
Jones, meanwhile, said he will travel to New York on Saturday to meet with Rauf.
The pastor appeared at an afternoon press conference with Imam Muhammad Musri of the Islamic Society of Central Florida, who said he will make the trip with Jones.
Phew! Now I can sleep at night knowing that a few copies of the Koran will live to see another day.

I think this guy had every right to do what he was gonna do.
He didn't have to call it off, and before you start saying well... now the Imam should call off the Islamic Cultural Centre in New York. He shouldn't.
Both have the choice to say what they will, or will not do.
Are you saying that wouldn't be interesting? I respectfully but vehemently disagree! :lamoBut, unless the Jerkie Boys are goofing on the Pastor, and that wasn't really the Imam on the phone... then this story is getting interesting.

Maybe the imam lied or led the pastor into thinking something different.
It's what's taught in Islam:
Qur'an (3:54) - “And they (the disbelievers) schemed, and Allah schemed (against them): and Allah is the best of schemers.”
The Arabic word used here for scheme (or plot) is makara, which literally means deceit. If Allah is deceitful toward unbelievers, then there is little basis for denying that Muslims are allowed to do the same.
Islam Permits Lying to Deceive Unbelievers and Bring World Domination! (MuslimFact)

Nope! Calling off the mosque job is exactly what Imam Rufus should do. It has to be a two way street, or it will. never. work.
I would wholeheartedly agree with you if this were a case if our government had been involved, or a much larger organization than this 2 bit backwoods preacher. If one was to go by your way of thinking, then any fool could threaten to blow up a building, and should automatically get whatever they want for NOT doing it.
But the preacher WASN'T blowing up a building, just burning some scrap paper.
The decision to build this mosque was always going to be inflammatory.
yet you feel the Imman should give the preacher what he wants because the preacher decided not to burn the holy books? Can you please explain the difference? You said he now has to do for the other guy. You are condoning blackmail?
It's called, "give and take". i.e. compromise? Hello?
What kind of compromise is that? It isn't a fair compromise for the the mosque to be moved simply because some guy isn't going to burn a book.
Do you honestly think that this backwater preacher with a congregation of 30 or so is in a position to demand or compromise anything with the imman? Be serious. As I said, I hope the decision is made to relocate the mosque, if for no other reason than to ease the tensions. But I certainly hope any decision that is made is not even remotely colored by the good reverend.
