Florida lawmakers allowed into ‘Alligator Alcatraz’ say detainees packed into cages

For up to 72 hours.

And under the law, once they're apprehended by the border patrol, within 72 hours, we have to transfer unaccompanied children to (the Department of Health and Human Services). And HHS then puts them in a shelter, and they find placement for them somewhere in the United States." Johnson explained.

He said the construction of the 72-hour holding facilities was prompted by a sudden influx of migrants.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have zero respect for people who don't read what they post.

So to clarify, the kids in cages are fine per you as long as they are only in the cages for three days?

The claim was that the cages were built by Trump and that he was putting kids in them because "the cruelty is the point".

The fact check proved they were built in the Obama terma and used for the exact same purpose.

So this one is just you, illegal immigrants are not only in California.

These numbers are just bullshit; and undocumented folks are not responsible for price gouging. Trump can’t even meet the quotas they’re claiming now.

Guilt by association?
Do they speak out in protest or do they stay silent?

As am I. But I respect people's freedom of association. It's in both our constitutions.

They have the freedom to go to church. I'm not taking that away because as a private citizen I cannot do that, nor would I.
The absence of religion doesn't necessarily make people "moral and rational adults" any more than attending church diminishes those attributes.

The lack of religion also doesn't try to hide their actions behind a socially acceptable veil of supposed morality and ethics either. Going to church doesn't make anyone a better person. It seems to be more an act of penance for 1-2 hours a week and then they go back to being their previous hypocritical dirtbag for 6 days and 22 hours. This was obvious to me as a teen when I was raised Catholic. It seems to me that many were looking to save their own self from their own god's hell by attending mass and then return to their usual actions until next week when they do it all again. I mentioned that once and was violently abused for my opinions as a teen. Theistic religious belief is not mentally healthy, nor does it inspire morality or critical thinking skills. The concept of the ethic of reciprocity does not require the belief in a god to be the basis of a moral life. We will be better off, both as a species and a society when theistic religion is treated as the plagiarized mythology that it is.
You have a tendency to post bigoted comments. Characterizing people of faith as "pedophile, abuser, thief, and hypocrite" is one example, as is your repeated dogmatism directed at Boomers (aka ageism).

Its not just Boomers or any other age group. I am on the border of GenX and Boomer. GenX is just as bad.
You are at least as intolerant as those you rail against.

I'm tired of looking the other way and hoping it gets better by my silence, so I have chosen to speak up. I'm also tired of being the target of their abuse for the past 45+ years because of who I am.

The subject here is Alligator Alcatraz. That was not built by Obama.

Those cages were indeed built by Obama, but Trump’s zero tolerance policy was his and his alone. The cruelty *is* the point as the admin has made that clear. You’re arguing with them about that. Not us.

You can type justifications all morning long but the fact is that your statement...

Christian is a euphemism for pedophile, abuser, thief, and hypocrite.

...stands on its own as an example of intolerance and bigotry and would be recognized as such by people of faith and of none.

Where should those suspected of being in the US illegally be detained?

Why detain them at all? There were no problems when they weren't detained, what problem is it solving now?

Is your devotion to government intrusion into people's everyday lives so strong that you support this sadistic cruelty?

Its important to note that no one took sadistic pleasure in tputting these kids in cages as you all take today.

Why detain them at all?
Because it's a necessary step when one is also interested in enforcing immigration law. It's a bit like enforcing any other law. If you don't do something about those who break the law they develop the curious habit of continuing to break that law. Further still, when others see those who break the law not detained they get the idea they too can break that law without suffering a negative consequence.

Thanks.

So some questions about the cages Obama built:
1. They were holding areas for 72 hours. How long will the current prisoners in Florida be held?
2. Were the prisoners in Obama's prisons afforded due process?

Let's keep focused. Even if you want to shift the goalposts, that isn't the point. Plus you've had one set of questions answered. It's not my job to answer every question you have on the matter.

The OP on the thread is about the former DNC chairperson throwing a tantrum trying to make the facilities look bad.

She said they were packed wall to wall, but also noted the same areas held their bunk beds, their showers and their toilets.

The facility holds nothing but men and she decried the lack of privacy for the men. Any man who has peed into a trough or had to shower in a mass setting knows privacy is not paramount when they design anything like this for men. Complaining about it for prisoners is comical.

She complained they were fed but tried to make the food sound unappetizing and the portions small.

She said they don't have access to counsel but has that information by talking to their families who they seem to communicate with regularly through some means.

Detainees are telling their families a different story about what it’s like to live in cells inside heavy-duty tents erected on an airstrip in Big Cypress National Preserve.

On Monday afternoon, for instance, word spread quickly across the detention facility that a detainee had suffered a medical emergency. One by one, detainees started calling their family members, relaying different versions of what they believed had taken place.

BTW that is where the facility was built. I know the name makes people imagine certain things and when people let the hysterical talking heads feed them lies then they react accordingly.

But the reality is that this was bullt on an old airstrip aka where planes can land.

It's not sinking. It's not in a marsh. It's on a runway.

But the imagery is great and of course threads like this feed that imagery, which is of course even more great.

Do you have a properly calibrated sadism-o-meter? How are you measuring such things?

I'm not arguing with you at all. I'm correcting the ignorance. You're welcome.

Don't worry. I covered you there too. You're welcome.

Well bringing such facts to the table as "bullshit" and repeating your prior unsupported assertion again sure is educational.

Careful, you're spoiling their hysteria.

I guess political slant is important. Here are children in cages during Obama's administration:

Lots of laws are broken and not enforced everyday. Look at all the drivers dangerously speeding on the highway.

Why do you care so much about this one being enforced, and enforced with such sadistic cruelty?

Does it make you feel manly?

What is it about a cage that makes a facility inhumane? Do Canadian prisons not have cells with bars?
Overcrowding, open to the elements and other assorted problems outlined in the article.

Canadian prisons have cells with bars. They also have indoor and outdoor recreation space, availability of space for visitors and legal representation meetings and appropriate medical care.
