Floods, fires and deadly heat are the alarm bells of a planet on the brink

OK, but the US and some other nations are reducing their GHG emissions, while China is profiting from those efforts while increasing their own (thus global) GHG emissions.

Labelling me as a ‘denier‘ while I am simply pointing out those facts is ridiculous as well as dishonest. If find it hypocritical for the US to claim to be ‘going green’ while at the same time becoming more dependent on other nations (especially China) to supply the means to do so as they increase global GHG emissions in the process.
I don't recall labeling you as a "denier". I wouldn't know. The only point of my post is to highlight that reduction in AGW is every individual's responsibility, no matter what others are doing - on a national, local or personal level.

For example, just because others burn fossil fuels for recreation doesn't mean I can ever justify it in my life. I don't care how many people might own one, but I will never own a jet ski, a snowmobile, a dirt bike, a power boat, or anything for "fun" at the expense of my planet and humanity's future. I don't care how many people might use one, but I will never own and operate a gas powered leaf blower, snowblower, lawnmower, etc., just for the convenience of not moving my ass. And speaking of my ass, if I ever own a car again, I will never turn it on to idle in the winter, just to heat up my seat. When I'm once again forced to own a car to get around - (I live in a city with lots of mass transit options, and gave up my car back in 2010) - I sure as **** won't buy some gas guzzling SUV when I know there are vehicles out there that get 50-60+ mpg and more. They may be a lot more comfortable, but if my comfort ever became enough justification for unnecessarily polluting the planet, I wouldn't recognize myself in the mirror any more.

Just because others may do it, is not any reason for me to do it, too. And just as that applies to my personal life, it applies to my country as well. I expect the USA to sacrifice it's comforts, even if China never does.

They appear to be meant to virtue signal (show genuine concern?) about global warming (aka climate change) without offering any hint as to how the nation doing the most damage to the global climate is able to increase that damage with impunity. If anyone dare ask a question about that fact, they are ‘dismissed’ as being a ‘denier’.

Yes.
I think most are skilled at reading in-between the lines. It's a shame too, because I'd really like someone to make a thread that isn't disingenuous on said subject.

I was referring to the OP as having labeled me as a denier and an aquatic mammal. It seems that my posts (#2 and #6) were somehow deemed to have been offensive.

My point is that I was using it correctly in reference to the posts of the deniers here.
There are no deniers here; but a whole load of LW Chicken Littles. Don't worry, the sky is not falling or even getting very warm.

Thank you for yet another standard denier talking point. *YAWN*
And, of course, your continuing sealioning.

You don't give a damn about discussing the issue, do you; you just want to spew "denier, denier, denier" crap everywhere.

Psychological projection. All that you have done since entering is to sealion. No attempt at discussion, just asking “questions” to try to deflect honest discussion. You’re not fooling anyone.

You are a perfect example of sealioning: "Sealioning (also sea-lioning and sea lioning) is a type of trolling or harassment that consists of pursuing people with relentless requests for evidence, often tangential or previously addressed, while maintaining a pretense of civility and sincerity ("I'm just trying to have a debate"), and feigning ignorance of the subject matter."

-"relentless request for information" instead of honest discussion. You had a question about China. I answered it. It wasn't good enough--you simply had a follow-on question. All that you have i9s questions, no honest discussion.

-"maintaining a PRETENSE of civility and sincerity"--claiming that it is me who "doesn't give a damn about discussion" while it is you who does nothing but ask loaded questions instead of engaging in honest discussion. Get back to me if you ever want to do so. Until then, you simply cannot be taken seriously.

What's that got with eh thread topic? Seems like you're suffering from a serious case of projection.

OK, yet the first bullet point (including a 10 year plan) is obviously unrealistic - especially considering that plan was announced about 15 years ago.

  • 100% Clean Energy: The Green New Deal proposes a transition to 100% clean, renewable energy sources such as wind, solar, and geothermal power within 10 years.

I personally support efforts to conserve energy and have replaced many of my IC engine powered tools (e.g. string trimmer, 21” push mower, 16” chainsaw and leaf blower) with L-ion battery powered tools, but we still have an IC engine powered tow vehicle (2002 Chevy Tahoe) and 48” riding mower. We plan to get a hybrid car (probably a 2018/19 Toyota Corolla) to save some fuel when towing our trailers or hauling construction material isn’t required. We recently (in 2020) bought an energy efficient 17‘ x 56’ (952 sq. ft.) manufactured home which has reduced our electric bill.

“The world is hotter than it’s been in thousands of years, and it’s as if every alarm bell on Earth were ringing.
True.

Observed readings come from meteorological stations that are within the influence of the urban heat island effect.

But.... The alarm is false.
The warnings are echoing through the drenched mountains of Vermont, where two months of rain just fell in only two days. India and Japan were deluged by extreme flooding.

Scientists say there is no question that this cacophony was caused by climate change — or that it will continue to intensify as the planet warms.
Do you have studies or names, or is this what the lying pundits are claiming?
Research shows that human greenhouse gas emissions, particularly from burning fossil fuels, have raised Earth’s temperature by about 1.2 degrees Celsius (2.2 Fahrenheit) above preindustrial levels. Unless humanity radically transforms the way people travel, generate energy and produce food, the global average temperature is on track to increase by more than 3 degrees Celsius (5.4 Fahrenheit), according to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change — unleashing catastrophes that will make this year’s disasters seem mild.
The IPCC et. al. does not make that high of a claim.
They’re blaring from the scorching streets of Texas, Florida, Spain and China, with a severe heat wave also building in Phoenix and the Southwest in coming days.
Can you say "land use changes?"
They’re burbling up from the oceans, where temperatures have surged to levels considered “beyond extreme.”
And they’re showing up in unprecedented, still-burning wildfires in Canada that have sent plumes of dangerous smoke into the United States.
Yes, we have more people throwing out lit cigarettes.

Again. Who are they? What are their names?
WaaPo.... LOL...

The earth has heated up a whooping 2.2F since the "pre-industrial period'? That was, what, 130-150 years ago? Any amount of heating barely perceptible to humans.
Hotest temperature EVER? What nonsense. How can a single number prove anything about the state of the climate over a planet whose surface comprises hundreds of millions of square miles.
So?

We are still within the 4 degree band of historical, interglacial periods.

Did you know that?

If the deniers are unwilling or unable to have a serious discussion about the matter, then ridicule is well deserved.
Too bad the people doing the name-calling like you, calling people deniers, are unable to have a reasonable discussion.

That's all the cult of AGW gas. Dishonesty. They cannot win on the facts.

Funny, as I consider everything you say a talking point that is uninformed and biased.

Seems it is now you projecting.

He has nothing relevant to day, but his impulse is to make stupid statements. Thus is normal for him.

Are we the leaders of the free world or not?

The plan is for the U.S. to lead western industrialized nation in meaningful carbon emmission reduction. This change will be difficult and expensive. Once this is accomplished, or at least well underway, China can be ostracized if it refuses to follow suit. The Chinese will have to be dragged into doing the right thing. This is no surprise. But it is impossible to pressure China until the west is leading by example.

The alternative is to follow China into the abyss — commonly know as cutting off your nose to spite your face.
