Poll for the Poll Gods!

Yle poll: Finns Party support increases, Centre hits historic low

39-1016865633d47794a0de

True Finns increasing since last poll. Center Party losing alot of support. They might be considering creating a government crisis because of this.

Finnish MPs approve abortion law reform

So one step forward....

Finland PM Sanna Marin 'doesn't care about human rights for Sámi people' as reforms likely to fail
....and three steps back.

It's the Center Party that's predictably is causing troubles making the reform for the Sami Parliament not happen. Finland have several times been critisized by the UN for breaking International law here. Basically a Court forced The Sami Parliament to add voters to their rolls that identifies as Sami, but has very little to do with actual Sami language or culture. The only ones that should be able to decide who is and who isn't a Sami are the Sami themselves. The thing is PM Marin should be able to take this act to Parliament without Center support, it's likely enough opposition politicians, like the NCP, would vote for it, and thus it'd pass, but she worries about isolating the Center Party, since they are looking for an excuse to leave the government.

Finnair cancels some 100 flights

Finnair's cabin crew had a walkout that forced Finnair to cancel 100 flights. They are protesting Finnair's new policy to outsource staff for the lucrative US and Thailand routes, a move that would terminate around 450 jobs at Finnair.

end of January 2023
I am very surprised if it actually comes online in January 2023, there will just be something else coming up again, and thus delayed again.

Finland is great when it comes to energy security

Cabinet in crisis after Centre votes with opposition on Nature Conservation Act

The lurking government crisis is now a fact. The Centre voted with the opposition for making changes to the Nature Conservation Act in the Environment Committee, thus making the Opposition's version of the bill move forward. The Greens are retaliating by halting negotiations over the Agriculture Support Package, which is very important for the Centre. The Greens are calling for the chairs of the governing parties to discuss the issue. It looks like government collapse is coming, 4 months before scheduled elections.

Meanwhile the PM is in NZ.

Jacinda Ardern and Sanna Marin dismiss claim they met due to 'similar age'

They are right.... you would never ask male leaders that. They met because they are both PMs. And that's that.

Well, just don't short-sell the British Navy. When that tub appears off the China coast, Peking will really tremble.

Actually the appearance of a British Navy Carrier off the coast of Chine WOULD make China Tremble as it would mean the entire force of NATO was aimed at their ass!

Independence Day came and went. Except the Nazis marching there were also the traditional ball at Presidential Palace.

So it was the usual. An evening where the main event is trying to figure out who has the most outrageous dress. Gasp.

Nazis marching

Oh no, not the baby boxes!!

Shrinkflation hits Finland's baby box

Well the good news I guess is that Sami language families will now get the congratulations letter in Sami. Why was it not written in Sami before?

Sanna Marin calls cross-party meeting over electricity price cap proposal

So the price cap proposal is an interesting December surprise. I am not sure whether it would work. PM Marin has called a cross-party meeting, as in a meeting with the leadership of all parties in parliament. That means there is probably no enough support for it within the government coalition and she wants to know how the Opposition parties feel about it, and whether a deal can be made with some of them.

At least Fingrid doesn't think there will be a energy shortage for Christmas:

Fingrid: No blackouts in Christmas runup — so long as Finland keeps conserving energy
