HELSINKI (AP) — Construction of a planned barbed-wired fence along Finland’s long border with Russia will start early next year, Finnish border guard officials said Friday, amid concerns in the Nordic country over the changing security environment in Europe. The initial three kilometer (1.8 mile) stretch of the fence will be erected at a crossing point in the eastern town of Imatra by the summer of 2023. It will eventually extend to a a maximum of 200 kilometers (124 miles). Finland’s 1,340 kilometer (832 mile) border with Russia is the longest of any European Union member. In October, Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Marin said there was consensus among lawmakers to build a fence to cover parts of border with Russia in a project that is estimated to cost a total of 380 million euros ($393 million) and scheduled to be completed by 2026. According to Marin, the fence’s main purpose would be to help border guards monitor and prevent possible large-scale illegal migration seen as a hybrid threat” from Moscow.

Good idea. I wonder if that might work in america to keep illegals out?

It certainly would.
Until someone with a ladder or a shovel shows up. Or until they just get in a vehicle and come across the border with their work visa as most of them do. Walls dont work for any of that stuff.

Liberals - Good move! Yay!!

Also Liberals - It won't work! Booooo!

We should sell them the pieces of Derpwall that are left. Disassemble it, pack it, and ship it using public employee union labor. That would be cool.

Finland is another country that knows well the danger of Russia.

Wow, if those two things were alike that would be an amazing point.

That's not a rebuttal. How about you actually clarify what the differences are, and why one would work and the other not.

One is a hostile neighbor and the other isn’t.

It’s a distinction on the requirement for one.
Requirement for what? Something that doesn't work? Is there also a requirement for a football bat in your world?

Perhaps “necessity” would have made more sense to you.

Your false equivalency is very stupid.

Necessity for something that doesn't work? You keep trying to dodge the point but utterly failing.

One wall is necessary, the other isn’t.

Deerrrrrp.

It most likely just won't work, and is just another "let's spend money to look good" bill that both the government and opposition gladly can sign on.

But ya'll say they don't work, so why is something that doesn't work necessary? ****ing-A, your post is so stupid in it's flaccid attempt to dodge the point.

Your argument is a straw man, and that’s why it’s stupid.

It won't stop the Russian military and is not intended to, but it will hamper any actions like what Belarus was pushing in 2021-2022.

In other words, it’s to keep the non white refugees countries like Poland are terrified of out.

Brilliant 🙄

A static concertina or barbed wire fence is pretty ineffective against a modern mechanized force with proper leadership and planning and those plans carried out by a well trained and equipped army. For these reasons it probably would hold off the Russians for a few critical days.
