FBI moves to criminalize Habitat for Humanity (1 Viewer)

Is that legal? I can't imagine NY State letting him get away with that!
Not sure I could but I CAN take away any SF of housing I designate as work space for tax purposes. Typically this is just office and a common area or so.

Maybe almost all of his apt is designated as work area?

Zeldin’s order eliminates 10 EPA regional offices as well as the headquarters in Washington, D.C.

The EPA is unnecessary. Corporations can be trusted to protect our environment and deal with the pollution they cause in a responsible manner.

Happy MAGA.
Hey, and the cancer specialists will get a big boost in income, too!

He'd have to pay capital gains when he sells it wouldn't he?

They really should rename themselves "Skew Republic" in recognition of how much they twist news stories to meet false narratives.

Where were the stories about Joe Biden trying to criminalize Habitat for Humanity? 😅

Jimmy Carter worked with Habitat for Humanity for decades.

Habitat has successfully removed the stigma of charity by substituting it with a sense of partnership,” says the former president. “The people who will live in the homes work side by side with the volunteers, so they feel very much that they are on an equal level.”
—Jimmy Carter

Trump's just evil.
President Carter is the reason for this move by the old man in the WH. How petty and mean.

Must be. But I'll betcha there aren't any computer desks or phone banks in his Lois XIV style living room.

The idea that the federal government should borrow billions to give away to charity is ridiculous.
It supplies housing to those without. Works better than those giant low income projects overcome with crime and poor maintenance.

My assumption is control, usually anything from the EPA comes with a series of strings attached. In this case construction or standards that meet environmental impact goals. But given the wrecking ball mentality of Trump's administration whatever the actual reason may get lost in the shuffle of just turning things off.

These federal funds are being given away to selected charities. The idea that the federal government requires taxpayers to make government bureaucrat approved charitable contributions is ridiculous.

It’s the EPA who has frozen the funds.

Once the federal (taxpayer) money is handed out to various NGOs there is little (if any) accountability as to what it gets spent on.
The irritating thing is that US AID gets 10-15% of the aid money and doesn't account for it. Then they select a NGO run by a powerful leftist who donates to Democrats (think Soros), who gets 15-35% for overhead. (People can look this up) and then that NGO selects friends and business associates to coordinate the aid money. The final result is that only 10% of the aid money goes to the intended recipients. This scam was invented by Democrats. That being said, there is also a foreign aid oversight committee staffed by both Republicans and Democrats who do nothing. Why? Well, because they have family members wo get aid money!!!

America...wake up!

That is untrue.

I get the sentiment, but I am not quite there with you.

Politics aside, there are a slew of non-profits and other organizations that rely on what ends up being grants. Predictably, larger non-profits tend to have a greater percentage of their income from government grants than smaller or local non-profits. Health, education, public benefit, social services, even... "religion-related."

If we agree that Habitat for Humanity should not receive money from the government to help veterans and homeless get into homes then they all should be eliminated, is that your position on this? (Because we will be talking about everything from food banks, to school supplies for kids, and even church based food distribution projects all cut off.)

In November 2024, Zeldin was nominated for Administrator of the EPA as part of the second administration of President Donald Trump. He was confirmed by the Senate and sworn in on January 29, 2025. Under his tenure at the EPA, Zeldin has sought to re-frame the purpose of the agency and push for substantial deregulation of environmental and public health protections.[1]

A Trump appointee froze the funds.

Yes. The federal taxation power shouldn’t be used (abused?) to force folks to make federal bureaucrat selected charitable contributions.

Unfortunately we do not agree on this one.

There is nothing special about grants to charitable organizations, non-profits, when compared to the fraud, or abuse, when it comes to massive cost overruns on the F-22 or F-35 to large private companies (as just a few random examples to make a point.) In this case the suggestion is to go after the most vulnerable on the assumption of fraud and abuse because they are non-profits, while overlooking everything else the government tends to spend wildly on with little or no concern about that fraud and abuse.

Accountability is not achieved by singling out one group, overlooking others.

I take no issue with some part of my taxation going to spending on groups putting veterans and homeless into homes that meet decent standards.

What does swimming (or building housing for the ‘needy’) have to do with environmental protection
Can’t you think of a principle that applies to both?

Here, I’ll give you a hint: more than one way to skin a cat.

It’s odd isn’t it?

Imagine you got a loan from a bank and the funds were to be used a office building only.

Then, you - as bank President - believed that the borrowers were fraudulently diverting loan proceeds to build swimming pools at the borrower’s personal residence.

And then you fired 50% of the bank’s employees making it harder for the bank to catch the fraudsters.

I’m not advocating that (bolded above), but using the excuse that unless all waste, fraud and abuse can be identified and stopped then none of it should be is ridiculous.

Liberal rules for making federal spending cuts:

1) Don’t sweat the small stuff.

2) It’s all small stuff.

In today's "OK, WTF?" category (there are multiples of that per day in the Trump era), the FBI has ordered Citibank to freeze the accounts of Habitat for Humanity because they received grants from the EPA under Biden. Of course, HfH is not the only group they are going after, but c'mon, really?!?

Just yesterday I learned Trump is doing stuff like this:

So there will be less of a focus of public officials who engage in corruption, but the FBI and DOJ will be going after companies who took grants from the EPA.

This is how you truly weaponize the DOJ and FBI.

We are quickly turning into 3rd world shithole in record time.

ROFL

The Stalinist democrat get ever more insane.

Keep it up Comrades.

Oh wait, I remember His Majesty and MAGA muppets talking about this long ago...

"LAAAAAAAWFFFFFFFAAAARRRRRRREEE!!!"

What, exactly, does that have do with protecting the environment?

Updating insulation, weatherization etc helps protect the environment. DERP.

Its almost like you dont actually WANT to understand TT.

Well I would imagine that to stop waste, fraud, and abuse that you would need to identify the waste, fraud, and abuse so that it can be stopped.

Or maybe the amount of waste, fraud and abuse isn’t nearly as high as imagined.

Hell, Harry Truman made his bones going after government waste fraud and abuse.

So did he and every politician since then fail miserably?

The government has limited tax dollars to fund programs to achieve their goals AND to uncover waste, fraud, and abuse.

The question is: given limited dollars to cut out waste, fraud, and abuse where do you get the best ROI ? Examine small programs in infinite detail or the big programs with some oversight?

That’s not a “liberal” thing that’s a BUSINESS thing.

Is the juice worth the squeeze and are we selecting the best oranges that might yield the most juice per squeeze?

FBI moves to criminalize Habitat for Humanity

Well, as imprecise as that Thread title is, technically, it does cap an OP that is truly disgusting in what it reveals about KING Trump and his REVENGE AGENDA and his desire to undo every decent thing Congress and the Biden Administration did.

There is absolutely nothing even being hinted at from the EPA or the FBI as to what could be the basis for freezing these already allocated funds. There is nothing out there that indicates any legitimate or rational reasoning for this action.

What is blatantly obvious is this is, top down, KING Trump targeting "climate money" i.e. Grant monies earmarked for energy reduction projects for Americans that would not just save them money but reduce dependence on fossil fuels which would also reduce fossil fuel emissions making the air and the waters and the earth cleaner.

We all know the EPA director under KING MAGAT is an Oil Industry guy who is on board with Trump's philosophy of, “We will frack, frack, frack and drill, baby, drill.” ~ Candidate Donald Trump October 18, 2024

Of course, quite likely nothing wrong or criminal at all will ever be found, but hey, that isn't really the reason for this move, KING Trump knows he can tie up that already appropriated money in a freeze for years and years when, on his orders, the Trump obligated and loyal head of the FBI and the Trump obligated and loyal head of the EPA slow walk all of this.

Bastages...the lot of them!
