Fauci fears a COVID variant worse than Delta

Becoming deadlier is generally maladaptive, as it reduces the chances of a host spreading the virus to others. There's no reason to expect Covid to be an exception.
It’s the reason Ebola has never spread beyond small infection clusters. It’s too deadly too. It will tear through a village and die out.

all the real actual plagues that effected continents were due to poor sanitation, and it’s not like our “believe the science” and “public health oriented” leftists would ever neglect to maintain basic public sanitation duties

As long as the COVID fear mongering goes on, all levels of government exercise their 'emergency powers' which they don't want to give up.
(picking winners and losers)
It's in the power and control hungry government's interests to keep COVID fear mongering going as long as they can.
Did you get vaccinated?

Dr. Fauci is right. The Lambda Variant is already present in America having ravaged parts of South and Central America.

Cheers(?) and be well(?).
Evilroddy.

I'm beginning to believe that we may have to live with it.

An excellent point. Homeless encampments would appear to be the perfect breeding ground for a serious COVID outbreak.
If you look, all the major homeless problems seems to be surrounding the deep blue cities run by Democrats.
What is the leadership of those cities doing wrong? (I mean other than the usual ideologically driven and terrible public policies they all seem to have, I mean specific to COVID spread).

Can’t wait for the Martian variant.

and why is it we are allowing people to enter our country from Central America if it’s ravaging there? Why isn’t the border sealed with orders to use force on all crossers and immediately return those arrested?

it’s just really weird how Covid is never a reason to pause leftist policies like replacing American voters or allowing mass race riots in cities

There won't be an "even more deadly" strain of the virus.

Calm down, live your life, and stop listening to fearmongers like Fauci.
So when did you get your degree in the study of infectious diseases?

Lovely. And Brazilians are among the many of the illegals pouring into the US:

Since Oct. 1, 2020, SDC agents have apprehended more than 7,300 Brazilian nationals. This is in sharp contrast to the 330 Brazilian nationals apprehended in all FY2020.

Every month since April of 2021, SDC has encountered more than 1,000 Brazilian nationals who entered the U.S. illegally. This represents more than a 114,000% increase from the same timeframe in FY20, where SDC saw six total apprehensions of Brazilian nationals.

So when did you get your degree in the study of infectious diseases?
While I'm only an astrophysicist by profession, I do understand how natural selection works.

The fact there’s still any homeless tents in LA is proof positive the Covid fear mongering is all fake. If this disease is as deadly as was claimed and the masses of drug using, smoking, alcoholic, vagrants who live in filth and dump sewage on the streets are all still alive there is no reason to expect it is dangerous enough to require all the mandates we’ve had to deal with

Only in the long run. In the short run, Delta is much deadlier than the original, and there is no reason to believe that there might not be an even deadlier version than that.

No, delta is not much deadlier then the original. This is simply false

While I would agree about the conditions there would appear to be a prime environment for a COVID outbreak, not sure if it's just lucky that one hasn't, yet, or if it simply hasn't been noticed if one did occur.

I recall in the first days of the building pandemic, early this year, thinking out loud in a post here what a COVID outbreak would do to that environment.

Becoming deadlier makes it harder to spread in both the short and long term. Your second sentence is a lie.

Except that you don't.

In the short run, given no competitive factors, "anything that works" is just as good as "the fittest".

Neat. Amnat is from the future.
