Father of teen charged in Florida school bus beating says son is 'sorry' [W:245]

Re: Father of teen charged in Florida school bus beating says son is 'sorry'

No we are not. We are prudent to start punishing offenders as early as possible. This was a violent vicious attack for no real reason.

There are dangerous people in the world but you make a choice about when to turn to cynicism and start calling it realism, it's a matter of perception not reality, therefore subjective. I understand the notion of someone really being too far gone to reach. I am certain however I would make that call at a very different place than most conservatives.

Yea, thanks to your attitude. This is what we have on buses now a days. Violent beatings over being snitched on by older stronger kids on the weak ones. Hope you are proud.

Re: Father of teen charged in Florida school bus beating says son is 'sorry'

Depends on the crime.
Murder or rape? One strike and your out for me.
Beating someone on a bus? Well if the person isn't disabled for life, you can have one more strike.

Re: Father of teen charged in Florida school bus beating says son is 'sorry'

I think he was an old guy though. Maybe he had health issues? I don't know.

I wonder how many in here that are actively diminishing this savage attack have young children of their own? Further, what their reaction would be after getting that phone call that their young son was in the emergency room with broken bones after being attacked on the school bus?

Somehow, I don't think they'd be telling their child, "ah well son, it happens."

Re: Father of teen charged in Florida school bus beating says son is 'sorry'

And the parents are to blame for not instilling those things in to their little thug children.

You are wrong and I'll tell you why you are wrong: Children, like adults can do whatever they want to do when there is no one there to stop them. It's called free will. We are all born with it.

Anyone can instill whatever they want to instill in their children and there will never be a guarantee that those children won't do whatever they want to do some time in the future.

I agree. This is nothing more than a I'm only sorry because I was caught and I want leniency apology.

I'm only 33 and we didn't have any of these problems when I went to high school.....

As far as I'm concerned the media is promoting school shootings...

All these clowns want is fame....

Re: Father of teen charged in Florida school bus beating says son is 'sorry'

Yes, and if one has real self-respect, his actions will not be destructive to others. Did you miss the part about dignity and actions?
actions? ... yeah, missed it ... wasn't there ... nothing there about actions.
Look ... rather than this back & forth about definitions, maybe it would be helpful if we could agree that trying to explain this away with tired clichés about "poor self-respect" or "something lacking in their lives" rather than acknowledging that society has been excusing, and consequently, encouraging, this kind of behavior and so kids (and adults) like that know they can get away with a whole lot because of that.

Re: Father of teen charged in Florida school bus beating says son is 'sorry'

Too be honest I couldn't tell you as it wasn't 3 white kids, however if your trying to argue that the US Justice system favours young black males over young white males I think you would be having a laugh.

I think the point is how race plays into social perception of these incidents and how that drives the justice system to react. Which is not totally without merit (the recent trayvon martin case is a perfect example).

As far as these kids go, the sentence of probation seems extremely light given the nature of the attack

Re: Father of teen charged in Florida school bus beating says son is 'sorry'

Bull, parents that instill proper beliefs in their children from the beginning do not have these problems with their kids just about killing a class mate on a school bus.
Free will can be reigned in with proper upbringing.

Wrong and you know it. And unless you are absolutely blind there is no doubt they are black. On top of that it has been proven they were black and the vic white.

That is your incorrect opinion, which, with a few dollars, will buy you a cup of coffee.

But I'm not buying it.

My observation, after living on this planet for seventy years, is that's not the way that life works.

But, hey, believe whatever you want to believe.

Won't cost me a nickel, or cramp my lifestyle.

So you believe these three were born anti social?

Well I honestly believe that sometimes teenagers can make stupid decisions and do some really stupid things. No matter how much you drill into their heads, they are still going to make errors in judgment and when they get together with other friends, forget about it. Then mob mentality seems to prevail a lot of times with teenagers. They aren't perfect. Nobody is, no matter how "good" your parenting may have been.

Anyway, that in no way means that they should get off lightly. They need to learn the hard way and not be given a "pass" for this type of violent behavior regardless of the reasons behind it.

That is projection on your part.

I did not say that, you did. I wouldn't make a comment like that.

I believe that some people like to try to put their words in other peoples mouths. Why do they do this?

Maybe because they are ashamed to let the world get a peek inside their brain and see how they really think.

If you have something to say, go ahead and say it, don't try to ascribe your far right thoughts and comments to others.

True...but it doesn't change the facts that we as a society recognize that children are different from adults and believe that they are not emotionally and mentally mature enough to make wise and reasoned decisions. We recognize that their judgement is not the same as adults. So why would we ever treat them as we would adults?

Re: Father of teen charged in Florida school bus beating says son is 'sorry'

So we do nothing.
And dont start throwing out all the mamby pamby things that already have been done and tried.
I have a newphew that got the same punishment for breaking into a home.
He didnt hurt anyone, but he did take a minibike off the porch.
Him and his idiot buddy thought because it was a classmate and friend it would be ok, well the parents of the other kid didnt feel the same way. LOL
But thats about what he got, 9 months probation.
He didnt hurt anyone, he didnt really "steal" in the sense that it was for profit. It was joy riding. But it was wrong and he knew it.
So he got busted. Lost alot of time out of school and was kicked off the baseball team. Of which he was scolarship bound probably to Florida State.
So he gets the same punishment as the three thugs that beat another kid mercilessly and break his arm.

Re: Father of teen charged in Florida school bus beating says son is 'sorry'

No. We should punish them harshly in the juvenile system.

Re: Father of teen charged in Florida school bus beating says son is 'sorry'

I agree completely, so abortion up to the age of 18 should still be an option.

Re: Father of teen charged in Florida school bus beating says son is 'sorry'

Define harsh.

Most Juvenile systems have a long range of options starting from informal probation to probation to placement in a group home to camp to boot camp all the way up to youth prison where they can be house up to the age of 25.
