Didn’t Ron Artest try this a few years ago?

Is this going to make their problems go away, like Blackwater? (Acedema)

If they want to be more accurate, change it to "Shit"

That's immediately what I think of Meta World Peace. I think the name completely sucks and I get a douchey vibe from it

Facebook is still facebook. By making the Corporation name not facebook, it's less confusing when they shut facebook down.

Meta, eh? As in the metadata they collect from users and then sell off?

lol
LOL - think they want everyone to consider them a "metaverse". In other words, "stay home and socialize online. Don't go meet people!".

Wow, something both sides seem to agree on. Facebook/Meta (whatever) is on its way to jumping the shark.

I haven't been on Facebook much lately. Are right wingers quitting in droves yet?

What was one of those old business proverbs? 'If in trouble with your customers, re-brand'?

Yeah, this'll be the same old shit with a different name. The song remains the same.

 You haven't been on Facebook much yourself... and are questioning "right winger's" interest in it?

Just a friendly this and that. Right wingers are pissed that the precious is banned from both fb and Twitter. I'm wondering if they are voting with their feet and posting on his new geocities site instead.

Meh... I quit facebook long before Trump, and never did become one of the tweeting twits on twitter in the first place.

Banning people from their sites merely cuz they don't like them was about as childish a move as I've seen in the public arena to date and only bolstered my fundamental disdain of both.

The precious violated ToS. He's still free to set up his own site, which he has done.

A name change of the product isn't going to change anything.
Same old shit, different label. 🤷‍♂️

But thats not what they do though.

They ban the assholes that lie, denigrate others, spread false information, incite people to riot, etc.

Those things are against the terms of service.

That's not really the intention. They've done what Google did a while back in terms of creating a larger company Google is a subsidiary of, so they can diversify their scope. In this case, it is a bit of a diversionary tactic, but Facebook's been busy buying VR companies because their next step is going into VR applications for business and entertainment. What I've found fascinating about the name they've chosen is it's based on a term for an man made alternate reality some people used to escape reality.

A shit by any other name is still shit and the thing that can be expected from an asshole.

Whatever the name, it makes sense to have an overall corporate name. Facebook was once the only company. Now, it includes Instagram, WhatsApp, etc.

Not doing this would be like Chevrolet, Cadillac and Buick being called Buick, instead of GM.

Oh, that's swell. </sarcasm> Does this mean that there are going to be a greater diversity of social media companies which harms children for the sake on profits?

So soon children are going to be harmed by Facebook in VR space?

A number of dystopian SciFi's have been on the topic of the human race losing itself in VR space. Facebook going to bring that to reality now?

That's part of the plan as well. The reality for the Facebook side of their business is their client base will continue shrinking over time because the age demographic of new users does not include children and teens. Facebook isn't the only social media out their impacting children; they're just the ones who are losing in that market.

So soon children are going to be harmed by Facebook in VR space?
Too soon to tell, but the VR space is what they're looking to break into big time. They have been pushing the VR space for business now that remote work looks like it's here to stay. That product is Horizon Workrooms, but it's way too early to tell how viable that will be.

Facebook and others.; this isn't unique to that company. What Facebook brings to the table is the social media aspect of it, which is what makes building an interconnected virtual world much easier since they have 3 billion users.
