PBO has given INTERPOL authority to operate within the United States with impunity. This is some scary ****.

After initial review and discussions between the writers of this analysis, the context was spelled out plainly.

Through EO 12425, President Reagan extended to INTERPOL recognition as an "International Organization." In short, the privileges and immunities afforded foreign diplomats was extended to INTERPOL. Two sets of important privileges and immunities were withheld: Section 2© and the remaining sections cited (all of which deal with differing taxes).

And then comes December 17, 2009, and President Obama. The exemptions in EO 12425 were removed.

Section 2c of the United States International Organizations Immunities Act is the crucial piece.

Property and assets of international organizations, wherever located and by whomsoever held, shall be immune from search, unless such immunity be expressly waived, and from confiscation. The archives of international organizations shall be inviolable.

No foreign agency should have authority to operate in this country. Its one thing if Britain ask the US for help and the US uses our agencies to look for someone or to do an investigation. Hopefully someone challenges this court seeing how INTERPOL is not an American agency.

Whats next?Putting the UN security council in charged of the Department of Defence?

This is ridiculous! I actually just found out about this a few days ago (and it prompted me to write an article about it here). I am totally fine with what President Reagan did. He recognized them and gave them some immunities; however, they were not granted total immunity. They still had to follow the same rules that American agencies had to. And, interestingly enough, they were able to function just fine for the four years before President Obama made this amendment. So, I cannot figure out what Obama is doing. Perhaps a secret police for Obama? That worries me.

This is just the next level of globalization and neo-liberalism. They need immunity to further their agenda. Now INTERPOL can take Americans and transplant them anywhere without oversights, as long as POTUS gives the okay... which means democratic oversight is waived.

You didn't think that only the CIA had that kind of power, did you? Americans aren't immune from the insanity.

Q: Did Obama sign an order giving Interpol the right to police the U.S.?

A: No. The executive order Obama signed in December simply gives Interpol the same privileges that other international organizations operating in the U.S. already have.

The message I entered appears to be too short, so I must now say things to extend it for the purposes of posting in this thread.

I like carrot cake.

Which is a complete lie that's being passed around by the neo-cons. It does nothing of the sort. What it does is limit *OUR* ability to abuse INTERPOL within our borders. It does not, in any way, shape or form, give them any form of immunity, they are still obligated to follow all U.S. laws as they always have been.

Geez, people just pass on any propaganda they find, don't they?

Does the poster actually know what Interpol is, or how it's structured or what it does?

About Interpol

-snip-
Each INTERPOL member country maintains a National Central Bureau staffed by national law enforcement officers. The NCB is the designated contact point for the General Secretariat, regional offices and other member countries requiring assistance with overseas investigations and the location and apprehension of fugitives.

Of course not, it's just ignorant paranoia. The fact is, we're now giving Interpol the same rights as we've given to the International Tuna Commission for years.
