Andrus Ansip, the European Commission's Vice-President for the Digital Single Market, has admitted that EU copyright law is "pushing people to steal," because they seek out illegal copies of works that are not available to them legally because of the widespread use of geoblocking in Europe
He pointed to Spotify as an example of how people could be encouraged to pay for copyright material: "if somebody is able to provide services with better quality, with higher speed, people prefer to act as honest people; they are ready to pay, they don't want to steal."
Admitted? Bs!has admitted that EU copyright law is "pushing people to steal," because they seek out illegal copies of works that are not available to them legally because of the widespread use of geoblocking in Europe
It makes sense. I'm in the US and can access all the sports and torrents i want thru .eu sites
our copyright laws are pure insanity however, so no one respects them in the least
Admitted? Bs!
People steal becasue they are greedy self centered assholes who thing they are entitled to what they take.
Machiavelli 101:
1. Have a proxy manufacture a crisis.
2. Profit from crisis.
3. Wait until people get pissed off.
4. Gain public support by solving the crisis you yourself manufactured. (For bonus points, denounce and possibly execute your former proxy for his crimes.)
5. Pocket proceeds and start manufacturing a new crisis.
The EU is responsible for the ridiculous European copyright and patent laws.
The solution is stymieing the EU, not rewarding them with more power and public support for solving problems they themselves created in the first place.
Copyright is and always has been a national issue.

It continues to amaze me how anyone can so consistently get simple and easily verifiable facts wrong in just about every post he makes...
EU vice-president: Copyright legislation is
He makes a lot of correct and interesting points. Hope he can push through changes to copyright legislation in the EU, so we can get access to content legally.
Sadly I suspect the big content providers will do everything to screw over the EU consumer instead of embracing the future.
calling it "stealing" is patently incorrect.
If I am using a VPN to get Netflix in the US, then I am stealing that content. Hence he is correct.
No, when you steal something you deprive the original owner of the physical item and he can longer use it.
That does not mean that the copyright legislation changed in any way that would allow the free movement of information technology across borders.. in fact it kept in place the very restrictions that are the freaking problem.
It was a harmonization of existing out of date copyright legislation in individual countries.

What's "pushing (hundreds of millions of) people to steal" copyrighted content is the availability and the low concern for violating property rights. You can try battling it and you can indeed reduce it by changing copyright laws but it will never stop and will never reduce significantly enough.
:dohAnd congrats in not understanding the problem.
Do you know what geo-blocking is? Of course not, because the US is the one that is more likely to geo-block the rest of us. And in the US, Nevada does not geo-block New York on digital content.
Now in Europe, we have a Netflix in the UK, Denmark and Germany. However the content is not only different, but most serious Netflix users actually use a VPN to access the US version because it is so much better. But then we have countries that dont have Netflix at all, like Spain or Italy.. now what should those consumers do to access Netflix content? They have 2 choices... use a VPN to by pass geo-blocking, and that is technically illegal or to just steal the content.
These law changes that hopefully will come, is to increase competition and to increase access so there is no reason to pirate stuff. I use Spotify free service.. I dont pirate music any more unless the songs are not on the service.. so Taylor Swift screw you. I would love to use Netflix, but cant because it is not here in Spain and I cant legally access the UK or Danish versions. So I am forced into alternative ways of getting the Netflix exclusive content.
Taking possession of that which is not yours to take, is stealing.calling it "stealing" is patently incorrect.
:doh
Lame reply.
I know blocking geo-block is. It is irrelevant to my comment.
So congrats for not understanding the underlying issue of human nature.
As stated, the problem is greedy self centered assholes who think they are entitled to what they take.
Not everybody desires, let alone takes was is not theirs to take.
That is the problem. Not geo-blocking.
To attribute the lack of personal self control to geo-blocking, is ludicrous.
Yes, geo-blocking is irrelevant to my reply. No it is not.
Lame. The human nature of those who wish to take that which is not theirs to take. What human nature?
:naughtyThe problem is lack of access pure and simple.
Another lame reply. You live in part of the world that has first access to many things so you have no clue to how it is in the rest of the world. Waiting months or years if at all for access to movies and TV series and even music, because the greedy industry is denying companies to provide the content the way consumers want and as fast as possible.
Go where you can legally purchase it and you can have it.Let me ask you this.. you have access to a product because you are in the US, then why on earth in the 21st century cant I have access to the same product as long as I pay for it?
