Employees Terrified of ICE Raids Are Failing to Show Up at Work

They are being. They're being rounded up by ICE Raids. That's a large part of the Frustration of the Farmers and Ranchers, among others. They followed the rules, hired a Green Card Holder, and now thanks to ICE everyone is afraid. ICE only cares about making quotas. They need hundred per day from each district to meet Quotas set by Trump. They grab the people and make up the case later to justify it.

A good first step would have been fixing the problem so that the labor the US evonomy needs cam be here legally.

SCapegoating good hard working people and ****ing up their lives and hurting the economy in the process is just stupid.

The problem isn't people with green cards. It's that they've hired people without green cards for decades, and the government has let them do it. This is what having enforcement is supposed to look like.

The next step would be to put in place a guest worker program - hopefully now congress will have some incentive to do so.

Make these people pick the crops, in chain-gangs, like in the good old days. Especially the violent criminals and gang members. Put them in chains and put them in the fields so they can do something productive, rather than plotting their next crimes in prison !

If they work 8 hours in the fields, these criminals and gang members and drug dealers/users will think twice about ever committing a crime again !

... we do not know what offense this man committed and whether that offense is one that would put his immigration status in jeopardy. For example, fraud is a nonviolent offense, but it will get your Green Card pulled.

Months ago I said I wanted this. I’m laughing. I’m laughing at all those MAGA fools who are losing their farms. Take Nebraska. It couldn’t be more Red if it was a Fire Truck. Farm Bankruptcy is way up. The triple blow of Tariffs, cutting Federal Grants and Subsidies programs, and labor shortages, are killing those MAGA farmers.

My point is that I want to be honest. People hiring those legal aliens are suffering too.

We were going to focus on the Cartels. You remember them. The folks who took over an entire apartment complex in Colorado? Where are they? I didn’t hear anyone crowing that we had gotten them. Did you? Folks eating family pets. We all were assured it was true. Crickets must be drowning out the news that we found them.

We seem to be focusing on laborers. Folks keeping those MAGA voters in business. Why would I object to the MAGA morons getting a good dose of FO?

@SavannahMann, and I missed the relevant passage in that article. He was arrested, convicted, and served time for DUI and drug possession.

I live near this area. People may be surprised to know that southwest Idaho and eastern Oregon have a pretty sizeable Mexican immigrant population, and most are not farm workers. That being said, I wonder if this Owyhee Produce's non-citizen employees all have valid and current H2A visas?

They do, but I would rather all those contributors be fully vetted and made to become citizens, swearing allegiance to the U.S. within 10 years of getting here, or they go back.

I think they are focusing on 'the bad guys' - but also doing visible enforcement. What's described here is the result.

Send one officer out for a few hours to pull people over on a freeway. He may pull over a half dozen people, but traffic slows to the speed limit for the rest of the day. Make a big production of drunk driving enforcement on a holiday weekend, and throw up a few checkpoints in visible locations, and you have fewer drunk drivers. Stick an officer under an underpass checking for seatbelts, and more people wear their seatbelt. Visible enforcement helps encourage a lot of people to do the right thing.

And to be clear, the shock will help the employers to do the right thing too. Those hiring illegal workers are also taking advantage of them. And they are putting the farms that follow the law in a disadvantage. Hopefully, this will lead to a good and fair guest worker program, and encourage farms to stop using illegal labor.

That should have been the first step.

The illegals that are here would have come legally if they could have. The system doesnt meet the needs of the US economy. Doesnt let nearly enough in legally.

Now that they are here, many for decades, and contributing, we should make these good people legal instead of kicking them out.

Common sense and common decency. Not much of that on the right.
