'Disgusting abomination': Musk goes nuclear on Trump's 'big beautiful bill'

https://www.politico.com/news/2025/06/03/elon-musk-trump-bill-00382653

Elon Musk came out swinging against President Donald Trump's "big beautiful bill" on Tuesday, slamming the reconciliation package as a "disgusting abomination" in a massive break from the president just days after stepping away from his role in the administration.

"I'm sorry, but I just can't stand it anymore," Musk wrote on his social media platform X. "This massive, outrageous, pork-filled Congressional spending bill is a disgusting abomination. Shame on those who voted for it: you know you did wrong. You know it."

Musk, who Trump had tapped to lead the federal expense-slashing Department of Government Efficiency, went on to criticize the bill for setting up Congress to "increase the already gigantic budget deficit to $2.5 trillion (!!!)" and saddle Americans with "crushingly unsustainable debt."

This is precisely what democrats have been saying every day since republicans came out with their budget bill. Republicans have always increased the national debt, and always done the same way, by massive tax cuts for the rich. Historically, it's always democrats that have always reduced the deficits that have been run up by reckless republican presidents and Congress.

Or maybe he really wanted to find and eliminate fraud, waste, and abuse ...

This makes it seem like it. I think the concept of DOGE isn't bad, I just didn't agree with the cut and slash decisions they were doing and having someone with a personal interest in government funding isn't the best person to do it. There is a lot of chance to save money but just gutting everything and then trying to make sense of things isn't the best solution in my opinion.

I trust Musk as much as I do trump, not at all. This may be a planned act by the two of them. What fun having such corruption in our government. America is dead, as is the republican party. Our citizens and allies are the biggest victims. Sad.

I'm wondering how far this split will go if it's not theater. In this case, I'm leaning towards it not being purely theater.

Why would Trump be part of a plan to tank his own bill? I don't like or trust Musk at all but I do think he may be totally ticked at Trump's hypocrisy in yapping about cutting government spending while greatly expanding it especially since his involvement tanked his business.

There was never a need for doge. We already had the GAO. Same function, but done in a proper way, while protecting data and privacy.

There was never a need to destroy the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, or fire all the watchdogs, the Inspectors General. There was never a need to slash the IRS budget, which only results in more tax cheats getting away with it, and collecting less revenue. There was never a need to pardon tax cheats or let them off the hook for cheating the rest of us.

Anybody who supports Greedy Dysfunctional Donald has their head up their ass.

Maga is a monster that is slashing government services which helped needy people, and running the debt even higher than it already was.

I see what you're saying. I don't know. Reverse psychology? Wait five minutes, they can both say something else. I wouldn't be shocked at all at this point.

The concept of DOGE was to look for ways to improve efficiency. Great idea. Several problems with this;
1. It starts as a lie. It is not a real government department.
2. It is redundant. Several committees in Congress already do this work.
3. They never looked for ways to improve efficiency. They just destroyed a lot of government and lives by thoughtless slashing.
4. In many cases they did so illegally. Many have been or will be reversed.
5. In 3 or 4 years a look back will reveal that DOGE saved nothing and cost us money. It will take that long for all the lawsuits to finish.

The losses and destruction caused by this kind of thoughtless stupidity will be felt for a long time.
A great deal of tribal knowledge has already been lost.
The fomenting of hatred, fear and division is utterly damaging to the soul of our nation.
Trump did a lot of damage the first time around. He is doing more this time.
I help we learn from this massive mistake.

I think Elon Musk is totally pissed off that he was let go, and pushed out of the White House. I think he had grander plans for his future inside the US government. If Trump had kept him on, does anyone believe he would have come out ranting against the spending budget bill? Hell no.

Of course, the old enemy's enemy's friend thing doesn't hold here. Elon is worse than the GOP. Being a rich sociopath aka Big-L Libertarian , he wants to gut state and federal government almost entirely so that the federal government exists to provide an army to protect the land his ventures are based on, provide roads and infrastructure his ventures use, etc., but otherwise doesn't attempt to do anything for individuals.

After all, being the world's richest man, he'd still come out on top of any financial shitstorm and find himself in a position to fill the vacuum left by departed government (the real P2025 plan).

It would be a replacement of formal constitutional government with government by corporate overlord of rich Big-L Libertarians, who only really wanted to bring America's reinterpretation of government by Somoli warlord.

(And this is why Bong Circle Libertarianism is so stupid. That refers to the Big-L Libertarianism of little people, who somehow don't understand that bigger movers will fill any gap receding government leaves. They don't get that if they receive what they're asking, their choices would be: (A) Somoli warlordism or (B) an America retinterpretation of it.

Or maybe he really wanted to find and eliminate fraud, waste, and abuse ...

By electing another Republican to slash taxes on the richest and blow the deficits and debt through the roof?

Right wing perfidity is so vile.

There is no such Department. The Department of Debunking Propaganda issued a statement that those are just phony words, and the Department of Confirming confirmed it's just propaganda. It's trump idiot level to make HIS actions of letting his biggest campaign donor commit great harm against the government under his authority sound 'official'. People should refer to Musk, not the phony "Department", boosting the propaganda.

Elon Musk still owes Trump $100 million of the $300 million he pledged to Trump's election campaign. I don't think Trump will be holding his breath waiting for it.

I mean, I can't say how tight he and Trump were, or speak to his motivations but I do find it hilarious that anti-Trumpers (anti-GOP) folks, crawl all over themselves to demonize the first, and then if he switches gears (like he did), they demonize that too.

But this does point to his interest in limiting government costs, regardless if he had a clue on how to

What's important is trying to understand agendas. That means understanding the fanatical anti-government, anti-democracy, totalitarian ideology of oligarchs and especially a group involving Peter Thiel, his minion JD Vance, Elon Musk, Curtis Yarvin, and an army of others.

In addition to pointing out who they are, they have confessed - see Thiel's speech that his fanatical agenda cannot be enacted through winning over voters, but how technology be used to get it enacted instead.

For them, funding trump's election was a way to defeat normal democratic government and get a start on what Yarving calls "R.A.G.E.", which is to eliminate "all government employees".

They have an uneasy alliance with trump because their interests only overlap in part, and they'd like to remove trump to get the presidency for themselves under JD Vance who they control. And we see those cracks with Musk attacking trump, which began earlier this year as he had people who represent him attack trump. Giving trump $280 million to win bought him a lot, but not as much as he'd like.

OK, but that's a different topic than the propaganda about the "Department". Nice to see trump get a taste of his own medicine, I guess.

That was Musk's only move left after his personal interests starting taking a hit. This shows that not only Musk, but Trump can be manipulated through financial attacks. Want MAGA to vote a certain way, pressure MAGA leaders financially. Greed is what makes them tick.

Musk ran his own scam with DOGE, then he left and now seems outraged with one of Trump's other scams.

lol

He's just trying to get some cred because he pissed off his Tesla customer base.

IDK, could this all be another dog and pony show to distract us, again? This seems just too coordinated.
With Trump, it's all about distracting from his scams and cons.
