Elizabeth Warren has just won the endorsement of the Des Moines Register in Iowa. Do you think it will aid her in her campaign any? Help her to win the democratic nomination for President? A general election victory if she were to make it that far, and win the democratic nomination for President?

Don't think it would help her at all?

Is a waste of an endorsement?

Think someone else should have gotten it? That it could have benefited someone else better than it may or will benefit her? Personally I don't think the endorsement will be enough to get her the democratic nomination for President.

Not all endorsements are enough to bring a candidate an election victory in my opinion -- and her endorsement may not be enough to bring her a victory in her pursuit of the democratic nomination for President.

Do you think the endorsement will help her win Iowa in the democratic primary election for President?

I think the endorsement may have been better suited for Joe Biden to receive it, as he seems like he may get the state of Iowa in the democratic primary for President as of now. It would better bolster his position to potentially win the democratic nomination for President, than help her receive it at this point in her campaign and as of how her campaign has been declining in performance as of late

Newspapers are one of the last places where you can find legit news these days.

I know lot of people who read the endorsements on voting day and vote that way.

I don't think they can 100% pick the winner though.

Boy, do I feel mixed about this. Elizabeth Warren has been my preferred candidate for over half a year now, so technically speaking I should take news like this to be a positive. But the way head-to-head polling in battleground states are shaping up are showing an outcome that's on a razor's edge.

So yeah. Mixed.

The idea behind giving an endorsement isn't to make a prediction of who is going to win, but to identify the best qualified candidate in the minds of the editorial board. The NY Times likes Klobachar and Warren. If you were going to bet Most of the money would be on Biden, though Joe has been running for the job since 1984 and never got much traction. Beyond the fact that he has a name recognizable to the low information voters. What suddenly makes him the golden boy?https://checkyourfact.com/2019/05/01/fact-check-joe-biden-president-3-times/https://checkyourfact.com/2019/05/01/fact-

You’re joking, right? Many of America’s very best journalists work for newspapers. When was the last time you watched any major national news program that didn’t cover a story (stories) first investigated/reported by a newspaper journalist?

I don't think endorsements mean much if anything. It's probably better to have them than not, but I doubt any endorsement really affects how anyone will vote. Well, it might a handful. My favorite rock star said to vote for so and so or my favorite basketball player, movie star, perhaps even a politician or two. Where it might help is raising money, but influencing votes, not much if at all.

I think its inappropiate for any news organization to endorse anyone. It reveals their bias.

Newspaper endorsements don't mean what they did a decade or two ago. The last poll I looked at out of Iowa was Bernie Sanders taking a prominent lead. (NYT/Siena): Sanders 25, Buttigieg 18, Biden 17, Warren 15, Klobuchar 8

Warren is 4th in Iowa at the moment. As of 23 Jan. But it will all depend on who turns out.

RealClearPolitics - Election 2020 - Iowa Democratic Presidential Caucus

She also 4th in NH.

RealClearPolitics - Election 2020 - New Hampshire Democratic Presidential Primary

3rd in Nevada, but a good tens points behind Biden.

RealClearPolitics - Election 2020 - Nevada Democratic Presidential Caucus

and finally SC before we get into Super Tuesday. 3rd in SC, but 18 points behind Biden.

RealClearPolitics - Election 2020 - South Carolina Democratic Presidential Primary

The thing about Iowa isn't so much where you finish, but how much better you did then what was expected.

In a key democratic primary the mayor of a minor city in a minor state is polling ahead of the former VP. That's telling, but not as telling as the frontrunner for the democratic nomination being a socialist ... lol. Good job, liberals.

You know Trouble, that might be fair point.

That’s why they put their endorsements in the op-ed section.

Right. But I think winning Iowa can at times be good for a spring-boarding effect, especially if it's a lessor known but popular candidate that's well-liked but thought of as unlikely to prevail.

That's exactly what occurred with Barack Obama, in '08. He gained legitimacy that he could indeed take-out Clinton, and key support from African-American leaders & leadership orgs left Clinton & threw their weight behind him. The rest is history.

Today, the same thing could happen if Buttigieg pulled-off an Iowan upset. It would not be quite that easy to prevail in places like SC, but Buttigieg would gain instant name recognition, credibility, and gravitas.

I gave you a 'like' because you make good points here, despite my disagreeing with your facetious cheer I bolded.

I'm not so sure being strongly progressive, liberal, or even advocating for strong social programs, is such a bad thing. Trump didn't win in '16 because he pulled a lot of votes, but Hillary lost because she didn't pull enough! There's more Dems than Repubs in the country, and I think there may be something to say for pandering to and playing to one's base. In fact, that's exactly how Trump one in '16, and he seems to have doubled down on that strategy for '20.

The Dems have the numbers, so I think they might be well served by a candidate that pulls out their base the best. Why moderate? There's no one left in the middle! They're not going to convince and trump supporters to crossover, are they. So, screw it. Bang, bang, bang hard at the base to get them excited to come out. That's what I'd consider doing.

That makes a difference how?

Can you see how it would be a problem if it wasn’t in the op-ed section, but rather on page one?

Well done, Liz---you have now laid siege to the last virtue of old white people--A newspaper.

Im saying papers should at least give the appearence of being neutral observers in elections.

They’re neutral in the sense that they separate the pages that report the news from the pages that specifically deliver opinion.’

If that’s giving you trouble, ask yourself why Fox News separates their “news” from political pundits.
