Elissa Slotkin

I disagree.

Getting control of government spending is important, especially when a lot of that spending is being used to influence, sway, or outright control other countries.

Getting industrial chemicals and solvents out of our food is a good idea, which is what RFKs MAHA was all about when it was packaged and sold to us....not saying that understanding of the affects of vaccines isn't important....but not nearly as high on my priority list as forcing big food to stop poisoning us.

Forcing other countries to treat our exports the same way we treat theirs is a good idea. We're the largest, most affluent buyer of goods in the world, but we never leverage that to haggle over what should be a fair exchange? Crazy. Costco does it all the time.

Getting control of our boarders, and evicting non legal residents is a good idea, if you want US citizenship to continue to mean something, and have value. Name a single 1st world country that doesn't do this? Name a country that you, personally, could just get on a plane and fly to, or walk into, find a place to live, get a job, etc, without taking one single step towards legal citizenship and residency.
I was referring only to the idea that Slotkin should rise on the left. I agree with your above post.

I'm unsure what you mean, please explain.
Progressives are but a small minority of the democrat party, 25% at best, probably a lot less than that. One could easily argue that Trump won last November because progressives just weren't motivated to go out and vote for Harris. Democrat voters have consistently said they want the party to move further toward the center and yet democrat leaders (particularly at the DNC) are trying to move the party even further to the left instead.

While progressives may score some victories in local elections like in NYC and Minneapolis, they don't do well enough nationally to win national contests. As we saw last November, democrats can't win nationally without the progressive vote. But, for every inch the party moves toward progressivism, they lose votes from the moderates and this is why over the last several years democrats have lost over two million registered voters and Republicans have gained over 2 million registered voters. So, when democrats move futher left they lose moderate votes and when they move more toward the center, they lose progressive votes.

The Supreme Court stealing the House of Representatives for Trump has ripped open the remaining scar from the Civil War.

I got slightly further, to “firebombing of the DNC leadership.” Not great, Bob.
Ok, so now I understand. I did this while on break at work today....didn't realize right wing zealots are calling for bombing (with actual bombs) dem cities, dem offices, etc.

That's totally my bad.

So, I've gone at length about the future of the democrat party, and what I think needs to change for them to have a future. Personally, I think a total firebombing of the DNC leadership needs to happen, flush them all out, but that's just my opinion.

Heard this lady, Elissa Slotkin, speaking very briefly on NPR the other afternoon, and I gotta say....not bad. She didn't get much time, but in that time, she was rashional, sincere, authentic...no political word salad. Ot got me interested enough to look her up. Former intelligence, made the decision to quit grad (or under grad?) studies to join the cia directly following 9/11, and now she's a senator for Michigan.

What say you? Thoughts, opinions, opposing viewpoints?

I just do not like her. At all. If she is not a Military Industrial Complex lobbyist plant, she is the next best thing.

Her history in intelligence was the only part I wasn't wild about. Once intellegence....always intellegence.

Yes. Which means the only thing she cares about is maintaining the MIC. Which is clear especially with regard to her support in giving unlimited free advanced weaponry to Israel to test on live human subjects.

Not doubting you, but this is why I posted this thread.

Nope. She does briefly noted that it’s becoming harder to achieve ‘the American dream’, but offers no remedy/solution.

SLOTKIN: I really believe that the existential threat to the country is not coming from abroad. It's the shrinking middle-class at home and what that does to our stability here. I mean...

KELLY: Explain.

SLOTKIN: ...If you want to understand why we are at this moment in our history, this fractious, authoritarian moment where people - Americans are turned against each other, I mean, look at what just happened to Charlie Kirk. I mean, if you want to understand, you know, why we are so polarized, to me, it is about the fact that just more and more Americans do not feel like they can save every month and live the American dream. And when you do that, when you can't provide for your kids what was provided to you, you feel shame. You feel anger. You feel cornered, and you start looking for someone to blame. And that is almost always someone who doesn't look like you or talk like you or pray like you.

I take it from her interview on the YouTube show Breaking Points with Krystal Ball (a left-progressive Bernie Sanders voter formerly of MSNBC) and Saagar Enjeti (a Tucker Carlson right-winger). If you have thirty minutes to watch this woman explain herself to a non-fawning, mildly adversarial interviewer, she really does not look good. At least not to me. If you are a liberal Zionist who believes the United States and its taxpayers should be little more than an unending under-writer of Israel’s genocidal expansionism…well, Slotkin will reluctantly and regretfully give you everything you want.
