For the fanatics, nihilists, religious zealots, and know-nothings who are now calling the shots in the Republican Party, they really don’t give a flying fire-truck what the public thinks, they’re too busy pandering to the small handful of billionaire funded super PACs, whose entities exist for one purpose only: to repeal every program or safety net ever implemented by the federal government, so that corporations can profit from our lives - from the cradle to the grave.
In justifying the GOP’s vote to shutdown the government should the Congress not defund Obamacare, Speaker Boehner cited a CNN poll that shows 59 percent have an unfavorable view of it. Yes, ironically Republicans suddenly care what the public thinks. Funny how they are inversely unenthusiastic for polling data when it shows that 60 percent are against shutting down the government over defunding Obamacare, or equally polls that show 90 percent of Americans are for gun background checks.

More significantly, a Washington Post/ABC News poll shows 62 percent of Americans say they need more information to understand Obamacare. In other words, a majority of those who say they have unfavorable view of it likely do not know how it works, or were led to a negative view thanks to the right wing echo chamber and/or the endless barrage of negative television advertising funded by the billionaire Koch brother’s Americans for Prosperity. A media watch group found that between July 1 and September 16, the Koch brothers ran more than 3,200 spots to slam Obamacare. That’s four times the number of ads placed in the same period by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, charged with implementing the law. Over the course of the next two weeks, the gonzo billionaires will spend $3.1 million advertising in six states. Welcome to the plutocratic Corporate United States of America.

The GOP and their billionaire backers are desperate to defund Obamacare now because they know its popularity will soar once the law goes into full effect. They know that once it is fully implemented, it will be impossible to take its many benefits away from voters (“Keep your government hands off my Medicare”). They know once it is in full effect, it will be impossible to tell the 129 million non-elderly Americans who have some type of pre-existing health condition that they must return to the pre-Obamacare days of being denied coverage altogether. T

Now, ask yourself this: if Republicans are so sure Obamacare will be a failure, then why not let it fail and then let the Democrats pay a heavy electoral price for said failure? They know there’s no chance of failure, which is why they’re so desperate now. -

Republicans are getting more and more desperate to try to stop this progress and its sickening. They are now even going so far to try to stop the gov from basically functioning to end this. They are nothing but hypocrites and zealots when it comes to this.

They are also so pro-military that they're willing to cut off my pay to take another shot at Obamacare.

Thanks.

It is kind of creepy how cartoonishly villainous the Republican party leadership has become. I half expect them to start running these guys as Tea Party candidates for the house.

Actually, the military would still be paid. Unless of course your commander in chief(if you are actually in the military and not a fake)decided not to. of course,in that event, like all either kneejerk Dems or low info types you will blame the GOP and not Obama.

62% need to know more info. Of course...a good portion of that other 38% need NO info...they dont care. Its free healthcare baby...thats what its all about..uh huh...and rich people have to pay for it. Hard to blame the sycophants though since their elected representatives had no clue what they were voting for.

Its pretty comical to see how many mindless leftists there are in the media. And if we are talking cartoon characters...well...we could probably come up with some doozies for the crippled and dependent slugs that run around with their hand out and lips stretched ever towards the government tit. And the petulant and childish responses because the eeeeeevil republicans are threatening their hand outs...classic.

Sure. its the states that are shirking their responsibilities. Not the people, the responsibility to read and for heavens sake CERTAINLY not the responsibility to know what you are supporting before, you know...you actually SUPPORT it.

Its the other guys fault. ALWAYS. And THAT couldnt have ANYTHING to do with why they cant take care of themselves in the first place. Nope.

No I will in fact not be paid, I would get an "IOU" from the Federal Government and my pay would be made up to me when the funds become available.

And yes I will blame the Reps for passing a bill they deliberately knew would not be passed in the Senate.

"Elections Have Consequences... Except in the Minds of Republicans"

How do you figure?

The mind of your average typical Republican is not a place I am interested in visiting, but we are primarily talking about the new, "tea-party" kind, right?

Well, if someone campaigns on the themes of fiscal discipline and/or exposing the Obamacare as an extremely damaging piece of legislation (which it is, in my humble opinion, although I am not a Republican)- and gets elected, should he or she not strive to do everything possible to justify the trust of the voters?

You would argue that these Senators and Representatives must betray the people who elected them - people they are actually supposed to "represent" - because a slight majority nationwide has made a different choice, on a different level? Seriously?

What a remarkable view of democracy, to say nothing about the principles of federalism, common decency, and other such archaic values.

Well said. It isn't any more complicated than that. The problem is that democracy isn't the issue any longer. Partisanship is. By the way I would have a hard time naming a republican member of Congress who didn't promise to work to repeal Obamacare as part of his or her campaign rhetoric.
