Egg prices are falling, with a dozen now less than $5

I'm sorry to hear that.

I hope you found more profitable investments? The S&P 500 was up considerably last week. And is up Year over year. Maybe try that?

For short-term gains, Tesla stock is up 20% this past week. And over twice that year over year. Maybe look into that?

- not financial advice.
Imagine thinking Tesla was a good investment.

You wanna gamble on a meme stock, you do you buddy :)

I never said it was a good investment.

Just that it has been massively profitable for the past 12 months. And the past 5 years.

Hard to complain about the returns - if one had lost money in their 401(k) over this time frame, they would have done far better to invest Tesla. They'd have many multiples of the money they have now, in such a case.

Wholesale or Retail?

Just checked, my Wally World price has not changed since it went up to $6.12 a dozen under Trump.
Any drop yet?

Now under $4 here. Another 50 cent drop in a week.

credit to Trump right ?
Why should Trump get the credit? Birds got bird flu. Farmers had to kill off the flocks. Fewer chickens lay fewer eggs. Supply and demand, the price of eggs go up. Farmers take a few months but replenish their flocks.
Exact same scenario as has happened repeatedly regardless of who is president. But then I guess Trump supporters are desperate for a win. With Trump as their man they have to make up stuff and pretend he accomplished it. Just like when he causes bad things to happen (like the last round of inflation) they have to pretend it wasn't him and blame it on others. All of this is in large part why they hate expert opinion, as it gets in the way of their make believe world.

Oddly….many “blamed” Trump for the increase in egg prices. ;)

I don't think the egg prices are really an effect of the inflation, The bird flu that killed millions(?) of chickens is the actual result.

They are still around 4.50 to 5 around here.

fair is fair

The issue is if the US government could have handled through bird flu better, to reduce the effects, protect farm workers and lower costs to consumers.

People argue on both sides.

If I understand you correctly, when you say "the inflation" it is in reference to the general inflationary pressures. In that case what you say is true. However there are many causes of inflation. Inflation can be just a single commodity with transient causes like in this case. The price shoots up then goes back down. Sometimes the transient cause can affect many things like what we say with Covid being the base reason for many products to face inflationary pressures. Oil is an obvious cause of inflation because it is such a huge player in almost all countries economies. This is really true when the big oil producing countries let politics drive the price instead of demand. It is interesting that experts, you know the guys the right hates, say that global warming is a factor in increasing the prevalence of bird flu as well as other diseases. It is increasing the cost of many agricultural products both directly and indirectly. For instance Florida oranges and Arabica bean coffee just to mention two of many. Florida probably won't even be growing oranges much longer. They have already become a minor force in citrus growing. With coffee we, unfortunately, may all have to switch to Robusta beans because it is getting harder and harder to grow the Arabica. This is a disaster as 100% Robust bean coffee smells and tastes like burnt rubber. Reducing interest rates is also inflationary is not timed correctly. Raising interest rates are pretty much the only tool governments have for truly reducing generic inflation pressures as has been proven by history. But then the right doesn't believe in actual history any more than they believe Expert economists.

True, since I don't have the data those in the Government had at the time I couldn't make a real guess as to whether they were correct or not.

It seems as if they made the right choice, since we are now seeing less of the disease.

No he didn't. As I said, he got blamed for lying about it not for causing it. And he did lie about it. He did this repeatedly on live TV for everyone to see. The only blame game that happened was for MAGA blaming Biden for the rise in egg prices.

Yes, you would have to read the threads posted here, and the news articles from last year who called on the then current administration to do more, also posted on this site, to understand.

If it took an entirely new administration to address bird flu and lower prices, that would be a thing.

We are seeing less of the disease a full year after the government was asked to take action.

Again, threads posted on this site and news articles and government documents from last year show what could have been done.

It's great this is happening now; everyone wishes it would have happened earlier.

The Biden admin has been taking action since 2022.

I mean after 3 years of work it is finally seeing some results. I think the issue currently follows some of what Trump has implemented.

Staff cuts limits testing and response efforts, with 25% of the USDA laid off, we have less people to affect any continuation of the disease.

Trump has also cut funding for the CDC and the USDA which also slows efforts.

We are seeing some relief but I am not sure it will continue as the disease has moved to cows and to some people.

I'm pretty sure the last bird flu death was under Biden... yes?

Still about 6 bucks here, but Easter is over and consumer prices should come down somewhat. The problem with these large spikes is that the prices never seem to come all the way back down.

Not from what I am seeing, I did a little research and it is still a bit of an issue.
What are you seeing that says a person died of bird flu not during Biden's presidency? Weird....

He's telling you what the scientists are telling him that work under him as HHS secretary. Why are you against those scientists?
You mean his "scientists".......

Ahh you didn't specify person or animal. I didn't say people had died just that the disease had started communicating to people. at least 70 cases at the moment. hopefully that doesn't go any higher.

For sure.

But there were deaths, of people, and thankfully those have been prevented for the past few months.

Along with fewer infections of animals, and resulting lower prices for consumers. All good news.
