Early in person voting is very high

From this morning's Washington Post

Over 230 Republican candidates have cast doubt on the 2024 election

Nearly half of Republican candidates for Congress or top state offices have used social media to cast doubt on the integrity of the 2024 election, according to a Washington Post analysis, highlighting a pervasive effort within the GOP to undermine public trust in the vote ahead of Nov. 5.

From Nov. 9, 2022, to Oct. 11, at least 236 Republican candidates posted or amplified a range of falsehoods or misinformation about election malfeasance. Many candidates baselessly accused Democrats of trying to sway the election through former president Donald Trump’s court cases or by registering noncitizens to vote. Others falsely likened Vice President Kamala Harris’s nomination to a “coup” or promoted misinformation about voter fraud.

The rhetoric, which often parrots Trump’s election-related falsehoods, could help lay the groundwork for Republicans to challenge any election outcome they dislike by alleging the results are tainted or fraudulent.

“Even after the horrific sights of January 6, endorsing Trump’s baseless claims about election fraud had become a litmus test for any Republican who hopes to secure political seats,” said Yotam Ophir, an expert on political misinformation at the University at Buffalo. “Leaders cannot govern if the public fails to agree on the importance of facts and evidence, and by endorsing Trump’s election falsehoods, Republicans are breaking away from the values and norms of democracy, without which it cannot survive.”

Polling shows that most Americans trust their local and state officials to run fair and reliable elections. But Republican messaging that challenges the legitimacy of elections appears to have resonated with the GOP base, a considerable portion of which wrongly believes that Joe Biden won the 2020 presidential election because of voter fraud.

If they thought they were going to win they wouldn't question it.

All of us are hearing this news but, yesterday, I began to wonder if this is because a lot of voters are at least somewhat worried about election integrity. I LOVE to hear in person voting is high because I think it helps remove some of the fraud doors I think "looser" voting methods obviously present. I'm not a fan of all mail out ballots and using the postal service or drop boxes for returning them - for the majority in a state. I fully understand there are valid reasons for mailing out and mailing in a ballot being appropriate for some, but I love that voters are making the choice to vote in person in such large numbers this year.

2020 was a unique year because of Covid but I thought it was a terrible year in terms of being able to feel comfortable with election integrity as voting procedures were loosened and so much of it happened via mass mailings of ballots and drop boxes. I used to live in one of those mass mail out ballot states, but in recent elections, I had chosen to instead go vote in person in that state. Of course, I was in quite a minority so there were no lines at all. But my ID was carefully checked and the process felt so much more secure and official. The machine did print out a paper ballot, but I could then personally review and insert that one ballot into the slot inside the voting location.

I'd love to see a return to in person voting as the norm and I find it interesting that, this year, many are choosing this option even when they could have chosen voting from home and the mail. A next good step would be to change/tighten procedures such that the procedures match what the voters are showing us they want by "choosing" in person voting this year. I'd love to go back to in person voting for most.
Early voting is very high.
And, Harris dominates 2 to 1 so far.

But only president donald hatched and implemented a plan to install fake electors in multiple states, then attempt to coerce his vice president to certify those fraudulent electors, or at the very least, refuse to certify the legitimate electors.
Thus, donald is a dirty traitor who attempted to disenfranchise millions of voters in an attempt at retain presidential power through fraud.

That is laughably self-centered nonsense. Did it ever occur to you that "election integrity" was NEVER a question in this country before the lying convicted felon entered the scene? It is purely a Trump scam, plain and simple. It was his plan from the beginning because he never figured he was going to win in 2016. And he has ridden that horse into the ground.

Early voting is breaking all records, not because of any concern about "election integrity," but because people just cannot wait to vote against Trump and be rid of him!

Yep. Republicans are like the cheating spouse, paranoid that their partner will do the same shit they're doing.

The more people who vote, the better.

Hmm. Let's see.... That's 0.0001% attempted illegal votes out of the total... and 0.0% illegal votes that were actually allowed to be counted. But OMG! Trump and his MAGAs are so concerned about this nonexistent assault on election integrity! One would think they'd be more concerned about foreign countries illegally interfering in our elections, which is something that is actually happening..... But no, apparently they've got no problem with that -- as long as THEY benefit from the interference.

Arizona has had no-excuse mail-in voting since the early 1990s. But a lot of Republicans didn't believe that Biden legitimately won that state in 2020.

California went to "mass mailings of ballots" in 2020. But most Republicans didn't really care about that since the GOP ended up gaining three House seats from that state in 2020.

I would bet there are more convicted J6 voters registered in Georgia.. 🤣

From your article.

The poll of 1,000 likely voters, taken by landline and cell phone Oct. 14-18, has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points.

They did a freegin' landline poll and trump lost that poll? 😂

If there were to be any poll that trump should win in a landslide, it would be a poll done on landline calls.

This. X 100. I voted the first hour of early voting here in SC with a group of friends because we just couldn't wait to get out there and cast our vote for kamala. And, some of those friends were repub-leaning independents!!

And I could easily Google up Republicans who got busted voting twice. The only Dems I've seen gay arrested for illegal voting were those who had been felons who did their time and thought they could vote again on some Jim Crow states.

Why should anyone take some right wing hack's butchered and spliced videos seriously?
That they rely on YouTube shit posts as their news source is very telling of why they are so ignorant of the reality that actually surrounds them.

Arizona Republicans have embraced early voting during this election cycle so there probably isn't going to be as big of a red shift in this state as there was in 2020.

I strongly disagree with the bolded. I'm not having the majority deciding for the minority. Voting is a Right. As such, reasonable accommodations need to be made.

I'm simply unwilling to refer to millions of voters who are opting to vote in person at a polling location, ignorant and weak minded. I think they are being both logical and sensible.

I think they're a little paranoid, but hey - their choice.

I didn't make this comment in reference to people voting in person. I made the comment about all voters, however they vote.

Edit, millions and millions of our voters believe election integrity is a problem when it is not. It's because of right wing propaganda.

Bingo!

Just as many millions believe Trump won the election.

We should not be accommodating or deferring to the delusional.

I love voting by mail and have been doing so for years.
Why do conservatives think they need to force everyone to do what they like to do? Sort of contradicts that "freedom" they claim to love so much.

We don't need to any changing of procedures, we need to let people vote how they're comfortable voting!

Abortion bans
Book bans
gay bans
trans bans
voting bans
sex ed bans
history bans
it's just ban ban ban ban ban with conservatives, that's not freedom, that's not inclusion, that's controlling and exclusion.

The bolded is it exactly!

"Do it my way, or not at all!"

I hate that attitude!

No. Only MAGA Goobers are unnecessarily concerned about election integrity because The Great Orange Faced One (TM) told them to be.

I’m sorry that the rest of the world isn’t stuck in the 1950’s. Here’s a non-exhaustive list of things that aren’t going to be returning to the norm (I hope you’re sitting down - it’s not for the faint of heart)
Leaded paint and gasoline
Smoking on airplanes and in restaurants
Rotary telephones, phone booths, phone books and landlines
Printed encyclopedias
Cassettes, 8-Track Tapes, and CDs
Wedding China
Polio
Child Labor
Required Voting in person on election day

The bolded is something I'm disappointed in. I was blown away when I first heard schools are no longer teaching penmanship.

I wax poetically upon my Catholic Grammar School and its Classical Liberal curriculum!

Does it really matter? We all know there are only really two options for MAGA supporters: either Trump wins or the election was obviously rigged.
