Philly mayor slams Trump as 'not a true patriot' after Eagles get nixed from White House ceremony | Fox News

Oh man, the Mayor of Philadelphia is a BOSS!!!! :lamo

“Disinviting them from the White House only proves that our President is not a true patriot, but a fragile egomaniac obsessed with crowd size and afraid of the embarrassment of throwing a party to which no one wants to attend.”The mayor celebrated the Eagles, saying he’s proud of the team’s achievements on and off the field.
“These are players who stand up for the causes they believe in and who contribute in meaningful ways to their community. They represent the diversity of our nation—a nation in which we are free to express our opinions,”

Trump likes to hang out with winners but if they are going to be a problem then forget it.

Trump has lots to do, there is no space for all that negative energy.

These players are neanderthals. What do these players not get? The majority of Americans want the players to stand. The majority of Americans are offended when players don't stand.

You go to the navy, they stand. You go to NASCAR events, they stand. The Eagles are a DISGRACE.

Yeah, this guy is a "neanderthal".

Super Bowl champ Chris Long, defensive end for the Eagles donated his entire 2017 base salary, worth $1 million, to charity. Last spring, Long signed a two-year contract with the Eagles that included a $500,000 signing bonus, a $1 million base salary and a $1.5 million roster bonus.

Long donated his first six paychecks of 2017 to fund scholarships in his hometown of Charlottesville, Virginia. He says he was inspired to give after seeing the violent protests held by white nationalists in August.

Trump is a coward. A true blue, died in the wool, immature coward.

Lucky Eagle's. Love it, not one Eagle took a knee in 2017, but because some did not want to go the Donald cancelled the invitation. Presidents only do this for photo ops and it was a given that the Donald would have tried to use the meeting to say something stupid and push his own BS. Trump thinks he somehow punished the Eagles when in reality the POS did them a favor.

Golf, rallies and tweets, did I forget anything?

I think it's great that Trump put them in their place. And, I also think Americans need to remember that professional sports teams are not anything special. They get paid more than they're worth, by far, and many of them think they're big shots.

I agree with calling them "neanderthals." All brawn -- no brain -- no common sense. Certainly not what we want our children looking up to.

Fine by me. Never really understood the point of inviting sports teams to meet the President anyway. Are they national heroes? Is the Pres special? Do I get to go see the Pres for my achievements? The President should be working, not entertaining.

No, they're not national heroes. Yes, the Pres is kind of special, but your achievements (I'm guessing) are every bit as important as those of some muscle-bound numbskull running around with balls.

Just who are you to determine just what the majority of Americans want? Isn't there still first amendment rights in this country?

Don't ever use the work "working" in a sentence describing Donald trump.

How did Trump "put them in there place"? All this shows is that once again, Trump cannot handle anyone with the slightest bit of political difference from his own.

Point being we have to stop worshiping celebrities and politicians.

There's quite a difference between celebrating a teams accomplishments, and "worshiping" them.

Sports, much like all the arts and other activities are wonderful distractions from the struggles and pains of daily life for many.
Sports are also rather large money makers for many. They provide employment for thousands, not just the players themselves.

While you may not like it, sports play a rather important role for a great many people.
And like it or not, those players that make an ungodly amount of money are also making it possible for many others to earn money too.

Those of us who get emotionally invested in a team will gladly celebrate and take great pride when things go well.
We'll also suffer through many many years of disappointment, let-down, embarrassment, and frustration.

None of which I'd call "worshiping".
