So, because you lost your childhood, everyone else should as well?

With your premise, you lost your adulthood as well- unless you've been on the dole your entire life.

Farm life is a bit different.
Yeah, that I know.

My job was cleaning stalls and during the winter it was dumping and refilling the horses' water holder.

Still.

Children need to be in school.

Parents should not be allowed to use children as farm hands during school hours.

I had a great childhood. I had fun every day, and I still talk with friends I had when I was in grade school.

Good for you.
This may amaze you but not every kid enjoys being forced to go to work.

I'll say! When I was volunteered for my first job, I was completely opposed! It didn't turn out so bad though. Kinda like broccoli. I love it these days.

School started hours after the first chores were done.

I started working at 14, during summer break, full time.

As long as it isn't mandatory what's the beef.

the world is TRULY ending today

youth working - omg !

FWIW I started working around 12 years old, never stopped, never not had a job since ..... working is GOOD. Kids today could use a little more working IMO. I see nothing wrong with it at all

why would anyone be against youth working ?
Yeah yeah. Uphill both ways.

My grandparents seemed to think my first job- which was during summer break- was mandatory. I'll never forgive them robbing me of those 24 hours per week of my childhood.

This is not about teenagers working summer jobs, which this market makes tougher to get. This is about children not being able to be children, which apparently is the route you want them to take.

no, its not

So, because you lost your childhood, everyone else should as well?

you can work and still have a childhood

in fact, in some ways it can be argued you'll have a better childhood

I'd not give up my hours working cattle, driving a tractor, hauling hay, dishwashing etc for all the hours of watching stupid tiktok videos and gaming I'll tell ya that

I don't think you understand ..... maybe you were really privileged in life ? growing up ?

no, its not

The post you responded to not only complains about children working, it complains that jobs are hard for children to get.

Comedy gold.

The problem surrounds “mandatory”.

Now that Republicans are rightly putting kids back to work where will you send your children?

The choices will be simple and it's mines or sweatshops as all kids love working in those.
Choose now!!!!!!!

What's this all about now? Don't assume people know what you are talking about. I certainly don't.

If you are raising an issue, then post the details and cite the sources. This is a debate forum, and the OP should provide the information necessary to enable a debate.

In any case, there is nothing wrong with kids "working." As a kid I had various jobs over the years. A paper route, working as a bag boy at the Base Exchange, mowing lawns, even tutoring in High School. All of the money was mine to do with as I pleased.

If you mean I had an actual childhood then yes, I did.
The UK doesn't allow child labour and hasn't for a century now because of the abuses that happened during the industrial revolution but if you want the US to regress to those times and laws feel free to vote for Republicans who can make that happen.
Your kids and grankids will really love you for your dedication to the US economy.

kids don't work in Europe ?

bullcrappy

same age limits as USA aren't they ?? be honest

Children can only start full-time work once they’ve reached the minimum school leaving age - they can then work up to a maximum of 40 hours a week.

Once someone reaches 16, you may need to pay them through PAYE.

Once someone reaches 18, adult employment rights and rules then apply.

In England, a young person must be in part-time education or training until they’re 18.

This took all of 5 seconds and a singhle google search for Republicans child labour.

Really? Then why not use your own "5 seconds" to post it in the OP?

I don't read "the Guardian," and it's not my job to SEARCH for what you fail to post.

Like I said, don't assume people know what you are talking about, and NEVER presume people are going to try to figure it out for themselves. :coffee:

Maybe if the news you consumed actually told you what Republicans are planning you might be informed about things like this.
Everyone else here knew what this topic was about.

I knew and I'm in the UK.
