Speaking of the Dow, it’s still up, but seems to be fading a bid off of its peak, and it’s only 11:30 EDT. A pattern that tends to emerge in selloffs like this is investors come in in the morning with their “buy the dip” long bets, but in the afternoon we see people receiving margin calls or institutional selling in order to meet redemptions. So let’s see if this rally holds, or whether it’s just a head fake.

In reference to fair and free trade, I'm guessing.

Why should the US put up with countries that heavily tariff US goods?
Why should the US not push back against these?

One of the main reasons for buying stock in a company is that one day, if you’ve picked the right company, you get to sell the stock and collect the gain in the rise of the value of the stock over time.

For retirees who are selling their stocks right now to sustain their standard of living, the crash of the stock market is terrible for them. The value of the stocks they had planned to sell is now much lower. And the price of the stocks are lower because Trump is making a deliberate policy choice that makes the value of the companies, and therefore the value of the stocks, much lower.

I assume you already know this and you’re just being difficult, but it’s important to be clear about what you’re being so dismissive about.

I think retirees might be more inclined to put up with the policy change if they knew what Trump was doing was benefiting the country in some way, but it’s not. They know it’s just a tax and that Trump is an idiot who doesn’t know what he’s doing.

For awhile, in the late seventies/early eighties, we were seeing a re-emergence of Jazz in popular music. That was more than fine with me, as I grew-up with my pop's jazz albums and they've greatly influenced my life until today.

That's one of the reason I'm such a big Rick Beato (YouTuber) fan. He too, draws from Jazz roots.

It is almost in lock step with our post Civil War, Industrial Revolution, trending in social/cultural, political and economic patterns. Letting fear of losing grasp of something or other drive them into the arms of a thieving huckster being used by oligarchical class to front their agenda.

They want a government that works with business. No regulations. No EPA. No more public education other than what’s required to make good button pushers, janitors, service workers of various sorts and a few supervisors to manage them. The worst of them don’t care about your retirement. They don’t care about their health care. They don’t care about anything that doesn’t make resources available for the creation of profit.

They’ve run out of ways to drive that with a shrinking pool of consumers making not enough to feed their beastie. They want more from tax dollars. So they will cut your Social Security, your Medicare and Medicaid. They will cut your food stamps, rent and energy subsidies. While they simultaneously lower their taxes and raise corporate welfare.

The Donor Class has let greed control its thinking. They’ve stopped realizing that a consumer economy needs consumers and if the kill us all they dint have them. All the care about is a number at the bottom of spreadsheet with today’s date on it. Nothing last this quarter is in their view any longer. Short term thinkers with short term goals.
