Donald Trump to Father of Fallen Soldier: 'I’ve Made a Lot of Sacrifices'[W:498]

Re: Donald Trump to Father of Fallen Soldier: 'I’ve Made a Lot of Sacrifices'

Does it matter?

The mother of the fallen soldier was insulted by a candidate for the Presidency of the United States, a man who claims to have the utmost respect for our military (well...veterans at least). He went for the religious angle when he questioned Khizr Kahn's wife's silence during the DNC without considering whether or not the mother was still hurting from the lose of her son. Granted, he died 12 years ago, but time in this case is irrelevant. I've lost my father, mother and brother (non-combat related, of course) collectively well over 10 years ago and it still hurts sometimes. My sisters still get emotional sometimes when speaking of them. So, the hurt never really goes away.

Was this a ploy on their part to bait Donald Trump into showing his xenophobia against Muslims? We'll never know. But one thing is for sure: You don't berate parents or spouses of fallen soldiers who served honorable and who made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our country.

I think we know.

Re: Donald Trump to Father of Fallen Soldier: 'I’ve Made a Lot of Sacrifices'

shrug...You asked what the difference was...I answered you. I didn't "excuse Republicans".

Of course you did, you justified their use of it while chastising Democrats for doing the same... like clockwork.

[h=2]VFW issues a statement on Trump[/h]
Presidential candidate Donald J. Trump has a history of lashing out after being attacked, but to ridicule a Gold Star Mother is out-of-bounds, said the new national commander of the near 1.7 million-member Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States and its Auxiliary.

“Election year or not, the VFW will not tolerate anyone berating a Gold Star family member for exercising his or her right of speech or expression,” said Brian Duffy, of Louisville, Ky., who was elected July 27 to lead the nation’s oldest and largest major war veterans organization.

“There are certain sacrosanct subjects that no amount of wordsmithing can repair once crossed,” he said. “Giving one’s life to nation is the greatest sacrifice, followed closely by all Gold Star families, who have a right to make their voices heard.”

Tl/dr, is it fine for Republicans to use mothers and their dead kids for political capital?

Re: Donald Trump to Father of Fallen Soldier: 'I’ve Made a Lot of Sacrifices'

Not sure if this has been mentioned, but Gov. Pence has tried to "clarify" Trump's remarks despite the fact that they're at odds over his Muslim (refugee) ban. You can read Gov. Pence's statement (along with House Speaker Paul Ryan's) here at IndyStar News.

Re: Donald Trump to Father of Fallen Soldier: 'I’ve Made a Lot of Sacrifices'

The only clowns hyping this up are people that, first, will never vote for Trump anyway, and secondly, those that pretend to be objective when it comes to political shilliness..<-- Not a real word but you get my point. This Father was used, he's what Alinski called useful idiots! The Republicans have their useful idiots as well, but lets not pretend that this man was used, period! As far as Trump wanting to ban all Muslims, that's nonsense. He wants a temporary ban on muslims seeking asylum from war torn areas until we can perfect a better way to properly vet them, and he's also on record as saying that all immigrants, from anywhere should want to come here to assimilate, not self-segregate!

Deal with it!

Hillary is one of the people who sent this guys son to war
She is? I was not aware of her military service. Can you provide links?

if it had been up to Trump there never would have been a war in Iraq.
We will never know, will we?

Re: Donald Trump to Father of Fallen Soldier: 'I’ve Made a Lot of Sacrifices'

That statement more then anything I heard so far on this shows but an incredibly, spoiled brat Trump is.

Hiring thousands of people is a sacrifice? What an amazingly self-entered and childish thing to say.

The guy was born rich...he did not have to hire anyone.

Clearly, he has not the foggiest idea what a sacrifice is.

It's hopeless, Mike. You hitched your horse to the devil's cart. Get used to it. You're going to spend the next 99 days "clarifying" the remarks of your running mate.

Re: Donald Trump to Father of Fallen Soldier: 'I’ve Made a Lot of Sacrifices'

I couldn't find the parents situation meeting any of the 3 definitions either. They suffered a loss, they did not make a sacrifice.

You're absolutely correct that by the definition of the word "sacrifice", the Khan's son getting killed in war was not a "sacrifice". I think the word sacrifice shouldn't even have been part of the argument Khan made against Trump. It should have been about Trump's seeming opinion that no Muslim can be an American patriot, and Trump probably has little to no understanding about our Constitution, and left it at that. The debate about whether their son is a hero and whether they sacrificed is just stupid. It doesn't matter. Label it whatever you want....sacrifice, sorrow, grief, whatever. It still doesn't change the fact that Trump is a low class, crass buffoon and he doubled down on it by actually implying Mrs. Khan wasn't allowed to speak.

Since at least WWII, the Gold Star on a parent's home has been synonymous with sacrifice. I would love to see Trump argue against that history. Please, Donald, go there.

Re: Donald Trump to Father of Fallen Soldier: 'I’ve Made a Lot of Sacrifices'

the DNC doesn't attack armed criminals-they are worried about losing the black and hispanic vote if they come out in favor of say mandatory prison for armed robbers etc. Rather they hate the NRA because almost 50 years ago, the NRA called bull on the DNC's phony attack on violent crime by pretending Gun control is crime control. The DNC hates the NRA because the NRA is partially responsible for Al Gore, John Kerry and other Dems losing elections. The DNC's gun control schemes are all about bitch slapping the NRA, not stopping crime

Its true... but why do they insist on doubling down in it. The one huge glaring weakness Hillary has is on her gun control stance. HUGE.

And yet the dems double down on it. If they concentrated on almost everything but.. they would have an easy win in this election.

ITs just like the republicans not being able to not double down on Abortion and gay marriage.

Remove those social agenda issues and its a much easier path to the white house.

My husband's brother was killed in an accident when he was 16. He wasn't sacrificed. My in laws didn't sacrifice anything. It was a terrible and tragic accident.

There are so many things in Trump's behavior when it comes to the Khans that are disgusting and reprehensible. The dead soldier shouldn't even be part of the discussion, nor does anyone have to label his parents or their son's decision to serve his country bravely. Anyone with a working brain knows that their son's death was a tragic one.

Exactly correct, it is all I ever said that another word strayed from its definition. I said nothing about the soldier, his family, or Trump which you probably said better than I could.

Thank you for that.

More on Gold Star families:

"For example, last year SOS established Survivor Decals to make it easier for those without Department of Defense identification cards to enter installations. Before that, Survivors had to get a visitor or temporary vehicle pass to access garrisons and the SOS programs and services offered there.

Congress, too, made strides last year to honor Survivors by designating Dec. 18 as Gold Star Wives Day. Gold Star Mother's Day, held on the last Sunday in September, has recognized the sorrow and sacrifice of mothers of fallen sons and daughters every year since 1936.

But still, many people "just don't know" what the Gold Star is, even though its history dates to World War I.

Even today, Families hang service banners outside their homes if they had a loved one serving overseas. There were two types of service banners: One has a white background, red border and blue stars that indicate the number of family members serving in harm's way. The other has a white background, blue border and gold stars, indicating the number of Family members killed in combat. From these banners grew the terms Gold Star Mothers, Wives and Family Members.

In 1947, an Act of Congress standardized the service banners and established the Gold Star lapel pins to issue to immediate Family members of servicemembers killed in combat...

...

It's a familiar story Gold Star Survivors tell in groups like the Gold Star Wives, Gold Star Mothers and Gold Star Dads, which came together for support and healing. They also work to promote the ideals of the military and to support veterans, service members and each other. The Gold Star Mothers, started in 1929, and the Gold Star Wives, formed in 1945, are both chartered by Congress.

"There's an unspoken bond among Survivors -- it doesn't matter whether he or she is a widow, parent or child. People I don't even know walk up to me and put their arm around me, and that's very comforting," Engeman said. "When you see the star and the banner, you just know." But for those who don't know, she urged, try to understand. "Don't be afraid to thank Survivors for their sacrifice," she said. "Remember what the star means."

I'm sorry to hear about your loss, sacrifice or not. And I understand your point. But "should be" and "what is" are two different issues. The fact remains that in the United States, the gold star is synonymous with sacrifice and any political candidate who cares to argue that point publicly does so at his/her own political peril. I invite Donald Trump to go there.

Sorry for your loss, but I'm not sure why you would compare a 16 year old who was lost in a tragic accident to a fallen servicemember who sacrificed his life for his country.

Certainly the 16 year old was not in the military.

That's what I mean. They threw the first insult! She was up there beside her husband on the stage!
And now they're crying foul - that she was insulted? What are these two.....kids?
They make me think of children in the playground!

The old maxim comes to mind befitting these two:
if you BOTH can't take the heat....then don't join the fray in politics! What were you two doing up
on stage? The DNC stage, of all places?

Yes, I think it was a ploy to bait Trump. If I were Trump....I would've just ignored it.
That they're MUSLIMS would've been the red flag. You can hardly say anything without it being twisted around to make him look like an anti-Muslim. That father had clearly taken Trump's policy regarding Muslims out of context. It's deliberately done since obviously, he's not uneducated.

Now they say they both want out of the Trump fight....because they have dignity. They say, "this is not us."
I know. You were given a script. Well....next time don't listen to Hillary when she tries to get you to do something!
This is funny.....really....

Talk about dignity, who started this??? Trump never even addressed them before this! Who was being mouthy?
Who wanted to get Trump's attention?

I guess they never figured Trump would whack them back!

What in the hell is wrong with you?

Why wouldn't I suspect that?

What's for them to be insulted about?

Re: Donald Trump to Father of Fallen Soldier: 'I’ve Made a Lot of Sacrifices'

They're defending their son's honor from a traitor.

Bull****.

Trump said nothing about anybody's son or their honor.

Mr. and Mrs. Khan are the ones who dragged their son's name in the political mud.

Remember boys, this is Trump's heralded presidential comportment following the primaries.

****ing retards.
