Donald Trump nominates Colorado’s Neil Gorsuch to the Supreme Court

Last edited:
America will see the Democrats give Gorsuch what Garland didn't get, a fair hearing and a vote.

Focusing on several members of the minority who have no control is typical of the GOP smear machine .

I hope so - he looks like a decent replacement for Scalia. I like his stand on term limits and his victory against monopolies. I disagree on some issues but that's not unusual.

The Hobby Lobby case opened a door that will probably be opened further. School prayer has brought Satanist coloring books into schools - not precsely as envisoned by the proponents. Hobby Lobby religious exemptions opens the door to any religious exemption.

It's my biggest beef with Republicans. They ought to know by now that trying to legislate morality is a doomed endeavor but they seem to forget that fact every time they find themselves in a position like they are in now. They overreach, the public recoils, and they wind up right back in the minority.

You have no idea how frustrating the whole voter turnout, voter suppression, gerrymandering, worthless DNC since 2009, and how good the GOP has been in obstructing Obama for the last 8 years.

Tbh, I'm more conservative on most social issues than my fellow DEMs and it gets me in trouble at times so I lay low on it.

I'm a retired public school teacher in chemistry and physics so that guides a lot of my thinking.

My Dad was 22 years in the Air Force and 8 more in civil service with TDYs to Vietnam so pretty Neo-Con and an Air Force brat.

I can listen to Sen. Manchin one moment and Sen. Warren the next and be happy with both.

I can listen to most GOP senators when the issue isn't political.

They need to get control of trump away from Bannon and Miller. Those two scare the hell out of me .

Do you think we need 6 genders like Canada has?

What the **** does that have to do with anything? I do believe the Supreme Court of Canada fulfills the role of a Supreme Court much better. Canadian justices are for the most part politically neutral, like they should be. They are also forced into retirement at 75.

No, they aren't. Democrats try to block, Republicans go nuclear.. confirm him with 51 or 52. Then when Kennedy walks away, Republicans will pick a guy even further right and go nuclear again. Holding a 6-3 court for the next two decades.

You don't remember Kennedy voting for Citizens Divided and for gutting the 14th amendment leading to over 30 voter suppression laws .

The guy is bad news. Pro-Corp and anti-women's rights. He won't justly protect We the People from a self-will-run-right Executive Branch who will use the SC to exploit the citizens. Surely our new Prez wouldn't do anything tyrannical? :roll:

Yesterday from Politico:

Senate Democrats are going to try to bring down President Donald Trump's Supreme Court pick no matter who the president chooses to fill the current vacancy.

With Trump prepared to announce his nominee on Tuesday evening, Sen. Jeff Merkley (D-Ore.) said in an interview on Monday morning that he will filibuster any pick that is not Merrick Garland and that the vast majority of his caucus will oppose Trump’s nomination. That means Trump's nominee will need 60 votes to be confirmed by the Senate. Senate Dems will filibuster Trump’s Supreme Court nominee - POLITICO

Right the **** on. The repubs made their bed on Garland.

So, it is a highly regarded individual that passed his appointment to the circuit court with a 95-0 vote....What would be the possible objection to this man now?

I certainly cannot think of anything since Scalia just died a few weeks ago and this nomination to replace him is certainly normal and in all due course of things as afar as replacing a Justice goes.

I'm a 49 year old Earth Science major who wound up a small business owner in a field completely unrelated to my degree.:lol:

I entered adulthood believing that ALL politicians were corrupt and not to be trusted.

I went through my liberal awakening phase while in college and my conservative awakening phase after entering "the real world". Now that I'm getting older, an undeniable truth has taken over...

I'm right back to square one.

So you are saying that we should no longer confirm any supreme court judges. Just let that part of government die off. Wow, I doubt Shumer will make your argument in public.

With as bad as Obama's judgement proved to be it was the right call.

Goose gander. **** the republicans. They have it coming.

Well it is something judges have no business in deciding.

2018--25 DEMs and 8 GOP Senators up for reelection;
2020--11 DEMs and 22 GOPs;
2022--12 DEMs and 22 GOPs;
GOPs won 22 of 24 seats in 2016, unheard of for the GOP during a POTUS year.

DEMs have not developed any strategies going forth, developed leadership, let alone addressed their voting problems.
Ten DEMs in red states and up to five more in blue states in my opinion will vote for cloture.
This is not the right time to oppose trump nationally, so soon into office.
Let trump keep making unforced errors .
