President Donald Trump on Thursday took Twitter aim at retail giant Amazon, renewing his attacks on the company run by CEO Jeff Bezos, who also owns The Washington Post.

"I have stated my concerns with Amazon long before the Election," the tweet reads. "Unlike others, they pay littler or no taxes to state & local governments, use our Postal System as their Delivery Boy (causing tremendous loss to the U.S.), and are putting many thousands of retailers out of business!"
===============================================================================
Trump has had it in for Bezos & Amazon since before the election.

His complain that Amazon pays little in State taxes appears to be a misread on his part as anything I buy on Amazon has 6% PA sales tax tacked on because they have facilities in our state. As for abusing the Postal Service, he is giving them extra work delivering on Sundays.

It's an attack on Bezos because of his coverage in WaPo.

Trump is trying to silence him.

Seriously? This guy is so patently resentful its amazing he's gotten as far as he has.

I read this renewal of an attack as stemming from the frustration of NOT being able to beat up Stormy Daniels.

In any event, the message is out. You can do business in the US, but you aren't supposed to actually USE the post office...its there for show. Or maybe they should raisers prices, but Amazon isn't doing anything he wouldn't do, and from what I hear about Amazon, they pay their bills, never once had to run away and declare bankruptcy

Isn’t the US Post Office supposed to be the “delivery boy”?

typical bloviating Orange Clown **** ..............

Republicans will look the other way as 1st Amendment rights are trampled yet insist they are defenders of the constitution. The 2nd Amendment is the only thing in the constitution they care about.

I believe Trump put a far more sinister word on the street here, F&L.

The message is:

"You can't do business in the States, if you criticize the emperor"

(Bezos of course owns WaPo, remember)

If they're losing money its HIS fault. He's the president, he appoints the post master. So now he does't want anyone to use it because it's broke.

Any of this sound familiar in Trumpland?

Heck in Canada

Canada Post is making quite a bit of money from package delivery, why the US Post Office is not should be looked at

It's more about this:

https://itep.org/amazon-inc-paid-ze...7-gets-789-million-windfall-from-new-tax-law/

He plows all of his profits back into the company so as the show a low income. There is nothing wrong with that legally, but we don't have an AMT* for businesses. Meanwhile, businesses are closing and people are losing jobs to Bezo's efficiency. Amazon made 5.6 billion in profit last year and didn't pay a dime of federal tax. That my folks is a **** ton of money, and it should be a bi partisan concern.

No wonder the country is so ****ed up. The left is blaming Trump for wanting to capture profits of company that is getting over on YOU the taxpayer! And finally, he is going after Amazon, Inc. not WaPo. WaPo is a separate venture of Bezo's. He wants to have to power to influence opinion on the hill about things that matter to him, not you.

And BTW, Apple built it's billion dollar space age office complex and will be writing off that as a business expense. He could have leased an abandon office complex (there are lots of them around the bay area) or built a standard office building big enough for their corporate ego for one third the price. My point is should the tax law be changed so taxpayers don't have to fund vanity offices with extremely high construction costs?

*Alternative Minimum Tax

Fun fact: Steve Jobs used to park is car straddling two handicap spaces right in front of his office. I always thought that was pretty funny. It goes with the FU attitude it takes to be successful.

I own 2 guns purchased legally here in PA & I would die before I voted for a Red. The NRA membership apps in each gun box went right in the trash,

It is but Amazon's got these goofy looking people in vans doing a "drop and run" on weekends.

Not in my hood. They are regular postal employees. I asked & they are on str8 time, not overtime. It's a great service & a great marketing tool for Amazon.

So did a most big companies... hell some even got money back from the Feds. This has been going on for decades, and while I agree it is scandalous, the fact that mr "I dont pay taxes" Trump is the one going after one of many US companies doing the exact same thing.. is kinda hypocritical and just as scandalous. The fact that mr fatass in the White House, just put in place with the GOP help, a massive tax break for big companies (and himself) which has and will result in next to no gains for the average American.. is again highly scandalous and hypocritical.

But at least Amazon is investing in US jobs... unlike other companies... just saying.

Mine either. The lady who drives the post office truck on the weekends drives down our driveway with the Amazon packages.

Then it's a damn good thing Trump and the Republicans lowered the corporate tax rates and the tax rates for Bezos and all the other Amazon execs, isn't it?

Those rates took effect in 2018. I’m referencing taxes in 2017 under the old rules.

Most businesses expand by selling more, and that is what the tax cuts were intended to stimulate. The government can’t pick and choose who gets what tax break. FAANG for the most part, expands by acquiring others and usually ends up reducing employment. I get that. But the employees who lose fall onto our social burden.

I agree that amazon is too big for my comfort but I disagree with trumps reasoning. I think he is doing the right thing for the wrong reasons which is just as bad as not doing anything at all. The issue isn't avoiding sales tax (democrat argument) or using the post office (argument for getting rid of them). The argument should revolve around free market competetion

Fun fact: Jobs also got his tires spiked with an ice pick or something like it no less than six times for doing that, and I wish I was one of the people who did it.

This is not correct....For the most part Facebook, Apple, Amazon, and Google create a lot more jobs than they take.

In 2017 Amazon created roughly 113,500 net new hires in the past 12 months.
To put that in context: If Amazon were a U.S. state, it would rank fourth in terms of job creation over that time frame — after Texas, California, Florida, and New York, according to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

And how many were lost when Amazon crushed the small book store?

The studies on the economic benefits of big box stores is in; Vancouver said 'screw off' to all of them in 1999. The take more jobs than they make, it's how they are profitable.

Send and email and ask Amazon how much the contributed to internet security and research in the last ten years?

No multinational should ever be considered one of the "good guys". Both of our countries were born out of the entrepreneurship of hunters, explorers, traders and independent businessmen. I cannot think of any good thing EVER to come out of a multinational. When I think of Monsanto or Dow I do not leap to images of student bursaries or $ for cancer research.
