Looking at if they try it with Mamdani like some GOP scum want to do
Lol

You must be kidding. They are thrilled to have Mamdani getting attention.

Now this piece of shit adminstration are looking to denaturalize citizens.

I have zero doubts they will use this to go after anyone that doesn't support Israel or is very much a dissedent against the Trump admin.

Obama gave way to Trump expanding upon this in his first term.
Leave it to this administration to bring back McCarthy era policies.
🤭

More future lawsuits.

....which won't help anyone who gets it "stripped", gets deported, has to wait for a SCOTUS whose first duty is to the Federalist Society to rule in their favor, and then to try to get back in (with Trump or any future GOP administration trying to keep them out by all means necessary)...

So I guess all the terrible illegal rapists, robbers, drug dealers, and human traffickers are not the priority anymore. Maybe they caught them all.

As a naturalized citizen with a mental illness, I'm just a little bit paranoid.

If Mamdani was going to be the disaster the right claims, you'd think they'd get out of the way and just let it happen to a city most of them don't live in.
It’s clear they’re more worried about it not being a disaster and people seeing the most populated city in the country thriving which would be the deathknell for their party and the rich being idolized and catered to.

So much of the financial markets are based there that there is likely fear that NYC imploding would have collateral damage to the US. Sometimes it seems that it would be worth the risk.

Looks like Democrats are losing their voter base.

When the government sets about denaturalizing folks convicted of petty crimes, I’ll become concerned.

As long as they’re going after convicted pedophiles, folks convicted of scamming pensioners and ripping off Medicare, etc., I say go for it.

Pretty sure there has to be some type of criminal behavior involved.

Nazis gonna Nazi.

Now the right wing may have done this anyway, but this is partially a consequence of something I warned of, back in the ISIS days across the western world.

There was a raft of citizenship stripping of citizens that went to fight for, live with or sympathized with ISIS.

This is what happens when we stop thinking critically and philosophically.

If we cheapen citizenship to something that can be stripped, then it loses all meaning.

Citizenship should be sacrosanct.

Once you have it, it can never be taken away.

Ever.

Because those people should have faced consequences as a citizen for breaking their side of that coin and by cheapening citizenship the way that all did, put every person in danger.

Once you've accepted the principle that American citizenship is always tenuous and can be revoked, then there's no limiting principle that will restrict it those people. If you want to denaturalize people committed of heinous crimes, why would you be concerned about denaturalizing people convicted of petty crimes? What about people who just stir up trouble but don't break the law?

American citizenship, once granted, is nearly irrevocable. The only exceptions are people who committed immigration fraud to get their citizenship, and even then it's extremely rare in practice and only done when the fraud would have affected the citizenship decision. Aside from those extremely rare cases, there's no crime that an American citizen can commit to lose their citizenship. And that's probably for the best, given the ugly history that many other nations have with denaturalizing their citizens.

I understand where you’re coming from, but reject the proposition that citizenship for naturalized Americans is, or will become “tenuous”.

The example cited in the article is of a naturalized former U.S. service member prosecuted for distributing child sexual abuse material who admitted to having been involved with the same actions during the naturalization process.

Exactly the type of individual that checks every box for justifying denaturalization.
If you want to denaturalize people committed of heinous crimes, why would you be concerned about denaturalizing people convicted of petty crimes?
First, I didn’t say or imply that I want people convicted of “heinous crimes” denaturalized.

In cases like Duke’s, yes, every day and twice on Sunday I would applaud the denaturalization and expulsion.

As for denaturalizing citizens convicted of petty crimes (misdemeanors), of course not, for obvious common sense reasons.
What about people who just stir up trouble but don't break the law?

As it should be.

Not true.

Naturalized American citizens can be stripped of their citizenship for crimes other than fraudulently obtaining their citizenship.

Those crimes include; acts of treason or terrorism, engaging in war crimes, dishonorable discharge from military service, membership/affiliation with terrorist organizations.
And that's probably for the best, given the ugly history that many other nations have with denaturalizing their citizens.
I agree. The bar for denaturalization should remain very high.

The DOJ taking this stance is antithetical to why we want immigrants to become citizens. What a cluster.....

Remember when you people used to pretend to be "all for legal immigration?"

Those were the days.

I know you folks have gotten used to the executive branch playing fast and loose with the rules, but you’ll get a crash course in what the law requires. If you want to change the law then tell your comrades in Congress to put pen to paper.

How far can you throw the Trump Admin?
