DOGE found a dead person receiving SS benefits, so they cut it off. Problem? He's still alive.

The problem seems to be that nobody in the vast federal bureaucracy is personally accountable for updates to the alleged (SSA?) “death master file”.

I strongly assume that process is an automated data feed from the counties/municipalities that record death certificates. Probably through other layers before it gets to SSA, as well.

Adding to my comment 48. This is all the info I could find. It looks like it was Trump who wanted this process sped up, but it doesn't specifically say the DOGE team provided the automation to speed it up. But I wouldn't be surprised to learn they were the ones who did provide that automation

"Social Security's aggressive schedule to start issuing retroactive payments in February and increase monthly benefit payments beginning in April supports President Trump's priority to implement the Social Security Fairness Act as quickly as possible," Lee Dudek, acting commissioner of Social Security, said in a statement.

SSA in late January cautioned that those impacted might have to wait up to a year or longer to reap the benefits of the Social Security Fairness Act of 2023, which became law on January 5, 2025. At the time, the agency noted that the legislation had not provided additional financing or staff to help implement the law or deal with the increased workload.

"The agency's original estimate of taking a year or more now will only apply to complex cases that cannot be processed by automation," Dudek added."

Quite disturbing that we have articles from a major newspaper trying to tie in DOGE and Musk to hardship in order to instill hatred and fear into humans. This shit really needs to stop. Media is infecting humanity with hate memes like Musk is Hitler and Trump is evil, and this is causing people to firebomb his facilities and people to vandalize cars. This is effing insane!
I agree with the "effing insane" part about what is happening to Tesla dealerships and to charging stations. THAT is effing insane, as is the anti-Semitic stuff happening at Columbia and other campuses. I won't be at all surprised if all this hate turns into yet another summer of love. The left has certainly made violence their new norm, when they are mad.

82 y.o. man gets letter from bank, sending their condolences on his passing. The bank then informs the surviving family that they deducted $5201 from his account for the months he was supposed to be dead. And he got no check for February or March. They cut off his Medicare insurance. And to boot? His credit was essentially frozen because he was flagged as dead.

Except the man is not dead.

DOGE is a menace to society.

MAGA and DOGE are glad this dead beat lost his SS money.

There's plenty Trump can be criticized for, mostly his recklessness. But so many of these yahoos fail to see that by engaging in breathless hyperbole they don't harm Trump and may, oddly enough, be enabling him.
You and I disagree on Trump being reckless and that's cool. Conservatives should not agree on all things. I do think he is bolder this term because he knows he is untouchable now because this is his last hurrah.

It's amusing that Barack and Biden were the first DOGE, though and didn't follow through.

OMG one mistake was made !!!! arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh !!

was it corrected ...... yes. stop the hate .... things like this happen
🤣🤣🤣
This persons life is ruined and you don’t care.
Typical MAGA mentality

He didn’t know how to send an e-mail listing the 5 things he did last week.

Quite unwittingly and because it is in human genes through centuries of conditioning, they are blindly and unknowingly following their angry and deceitful and evil leaders in Congress and media.

Not one of y’all MAGA/DOGE cultists have expressed sympathy for the man’s life being ruined.

Typical.
Ruined because of a mistake with the SS office? Of course, we all empathize with him. The OP isn't about a mistake by SS, though, is it?

DOGE is just a train wreck.

That will screw a bunch of MAGA voters.

They are finding all kinds of fraud. Just not publishing it.
Finally they had to start manufacturing it.

Scum

Richest people in the world stealing the pennies of the old and poor.

Post where you expressed sympathy for this man’s life being ruined.

I’ll wait.

This post is a lie.

MAGA is a cult without human compassion. A cult of hate.

Hence you can't say we all empathize.

There was no evidence presented that DOGE had anything to do with this.

Speaking of Accountability....Musk and company have stated repeatedly that they found massive fraud and that money is being stolen:

Any word on the arrests that should follow such findings?

More importantly do you believe Musk and the President?

I agree. Obama certainly had the right idea and talking points about reducing bloated government, but he did not follow through.

I freaking love the DOGE effort, despite it having a few chaotic moments. In the past, there has been WAY too much talk and no do about eliminating waste and fraud and, FINALLY, it's actually underway. The problem with getting it underway in the past has been the endless layers of ongoing and never ending idea/planning sessions - which nearly always fizzle and go nowhere while time and money are spent (and wasted) discussing how they will eliminate waste. And those groups just patted themselves on the back for "discussing" changes which never came to be. We are lucky to have Musk and his team well underway with DOGE.

Fortunately his life was not ruined, but it could have been. He still had the ability to go out in public to the local SSA office to get it corrected. Not many 82 yo people are so fortunate!

Soon even less people will have that "luxury" as they are planning on closing many SSA offices.

That isn't what this thread is about at all. You know this. The thread implies that he lost his social security because of DOGE.

It may have impacted his credit score. Plus having over $5000 stripped from his account and payments frozen had to take its toll.

Still waiting for the DOJ to announce the arrests of people who have committed fraud against the US.

What DOGE / Musk spout are sound bites. Until the DOJ/AG comes out with saying an investigation has found the evidence and they are charging someone I will remain skeptical.
There have been cases of fraud found and reported in the past. It happens, I just don't believe it is at the level Musk/Trump would have one believe.

It is because no matter how large an organism or entity grows, those inside it never think it is too big or bloated and know that they will suffer a loss if anyone tampers with their little fiefdom. A government agency starts out very small and then grows and grows. DEI is one example where a few very smart people realized they could do what Al Sharpton and Jessie Jackson did and shake down all of America instead of just a few big corporations. It grew to a multibillion-dollar entity with hundred of thousands of people getting rich off it.

No sympathy as I suspected.
Got it.
If you start a thread about an 83 year old who lost his social security because of some error at Social Security, I will express my sympathy. But this this thread is about DOGE causing that to happen.

I believe that problems exist, but I doubt DOGE has (or should have) any power to do much other than point them out.

The GAO agrees with DOGE, but change is slow to occur in the huge federal bureaucracy.
