Everyone I am sure has seen some Star Trek, right?

A utopian vision of the future? A socialist pipe-dream? The shape of things to come?

What would you find most offensive about Star Trek? And I don't mean just the original.

Would it be all the aliens, or that one of the Star Treks had a black commander, another a female captain?

Now I only followed Star Trek up to the conclusion of Voyager, so some of the things that offended me might have been dealt with in the "newer" series, so you all can correct me if needed.

Here is what offended me about Star Trek:

Synthehol

No one smokes weed

Buxom Women (talk about stereotypes)

No democracy

Solving problems with violence

The Bad Guys are always ugly and way stupider than Earthlings

Too much conformity, everyone looks like they have the same barber

NO MUSLIMS - has anyone ever noticed that? Say what?

OK YOUR TURN!!

And most all of them speak english. Bizzare

It's prime-time entertainment. You're taking it too seriously. No offense intended, of course. ;)

Yes, especially two episodes that stand out in my mind. The green lady one and the one where the two guys had a black and white face or was it a white and black face? The original star trek was a comment on current affairs. Everything was solved with violence and then discussed how it could have been done without violence....and we still haven't learned. Humanity is barbaric because of greed.

Almost as phony as the one with middle aged hippies.

Well, I am SuRe WE will find someone who will be offended by something ;)

- Not enough buxom women
- The change of Troi's uniform in season 3.
- The various versions of Klingons since TNG. (Just stick with one and run with it)
- Wesley Crusher
Ugh, Wesley was the worst character.

Wesly Crusher. The JaJa Binks of star trek.

The invention of a computer that can print any object such as food or clothing and one would assume any other thing you ask for.

What economic theory would work where everyone can get what they want by just asking the computer for it?

I wonder if the "replicator" can produce for me the woman of my dreams.

Who owns the computer?

Who owns anything in a world where by asking a computer you can get anything?

That assumes that everybody in the culture has access to the computer. Think of all the colony planets you saw on the show. Did they magick up everything, or did they have to till that soil and lift that bale?

The Yang Gang!

Does Star Trek Offend You?

Its make believe......why would it?

ST gets preachy and cringe sometimes. They overshot when they decided to criticize the 20th Century by referring constantly to themselves as enlightened v the barbarians of the 20th. When they stick to making sci fi, it's some great sci fi.

I'm trying to watch it with my kids, so, some of the sex stuff is a bit irritating.
