*Current 118th House Congress: GOP 222 v. DEM 212.

*George Santos (R) has serious troubles looming. His future as a U.S. Representative looks very bleak! I predict he resigns before the end of his two year term.
*Rep. Donald McEachin (D), Virginia 4th District, died after winning reelection. Highly probable Jenn McClellan (D) wins the 2/21/23 Special Election to fill McEachin’s seat.

So far, through 6 Rounds of voting cast over two days, Hakeem Jeffries (D) has led all nominees in number of votes, tallying all 212 DEM votes in each round. Kevin McCarthy has tallied a maximum of 203 votes and a minimum of 201. He currently has 20 dissidents in his party voting against him. One republican has voted “Present” in the last two rounds. Winner must win a majority of votes cast. In any practical scenario, he needs at least 15 of the dissidents to vote for him.

The House adjourned after three rounds of voting yesterday. They resumed voting today, completing another three rounds, then adjourned again. Members return at 8pm for a 7th Round of voting.

Does McCarthy become the next Speaker of the House? YES or NO? I predict NO.

Goodness, I sincerely hope not.

But then, this is neither a "grand" nor an "old" nor even a "party" anymore.

Based on past performance, most of the dissidents look like a shoo-in for reelection.

Agreed. Though Boebert is probably done after this. She is writing political checks she can not cash (though this probably helps her fund raising). Colorado is bluing, with growth in her district in areas that are the most blue. She won by less than 600 votes in a race that Dems largely ignored. They target her, she is toast.

Scott Perry might be done after this is as well.

The changing demographics of Arizona do not favor Eli Crane, either. The biggest city in his district is Flagstaff, which is pretty liberal. He might win another term, but he is likely vulnerable.

Otherwise you are correct. Most of these people can be as wack-a-doo as they desire and live to tell about it.

CAn't help but wonder, If he had done the right thing and removed members of the caucus for violating the 14th amendment, committing insurrection, and trifficing undreaged girls and such, would this vote have gone a little better for Kevin?

GOP returned tonight unprepared for a 7th Round. Motion to adjourn squeaks by 216 to 214. The Clown Show resumes tomorrow noon.

You and I both know better. 147 Republicans in Congress voted to overturn the 2020 General Election results. The opportunistic side of the GOP Party trumps the ethical side:

But most of those 20 holding him up would be gone.

After reading the above linked article this morning, I still think McCarthy falls short later today, or the GOP motions for another adjournment, followed by a nail-biting vote. Team McCarthy needs more time trying to sway the minimum 15 dissidents to vote for him (without losing any of the previous 201 or 202 votes).

Newest GOP strategy appears to factor in cooperation between the Congressional Leadership Fund (CLF) PAC and the Club For Growth (CFG) PAC. Just a thought, not sure how the GOP can spin this as a step toward cleaning out the Swamp

Team McCarthy also appears to have caved in on more concessions to the dissidents.

Clown Show resumes at noon!

Kevin McCarthy tried five more times on Thursday to muster the votes needed for Speaker. After Round 11, the House adjourned until noon today (Friday, 1/6/23).

The House has geared up for the 14th Round of votes. Team McCarthy appears confident! At the end of the last count, McCarthy tallied 214 out of 432. He expects two more GOP members to bring total membership up to 434 and his count up to a minimum 216.

Team McCarthy, based on the above scenario, needs a minimum of 2 of the 6 dissidents to change their stance. One flip + one or more declaring “present”, two or more flips, three declaring “present”, any of these combinations put Team McCarthy across the finish line.

Not my monkeys. Not my circus. I came to watch the Clowns. Let the counting begin (for the 14th time).

Round 14, Team McCarthy tallies 216, Jeffries 212, Other 4 and Present 2. This leaves McCarthy one vote short! Gaetz waited until the end of voting to announce his vote. Gaetz voted “present”. He could have put McCarthy over the top.

Motion to adjourn seems affected by rigorous deal making efforts with Gaetz. Expect Round 15 shortly.

Makes one wonder whether Trump would've "won" given 15 attempts.

The 20 radical holdouts are co-speakers.

The have McCarthy by the short-hairs via concessions.
