Conservatives seem to say that fact checking is against free speech and that implies it discriminates against conservatives who are most vocal about ending the practice. So do you believe that checking for facts is discriminating against conservatives and what are facts? Let us take vaccines and autism. The studies show that there is no connection proven between the use of vaccines and autism, but many people still believe there is a connection. So, when someone writes that you should have your children skip the childhood vaccines because they cause autism, should the articles include the facts that all studies have shown it not to be true?

And for several years they told us there was no basis for thinking Covid came out of the Wuhan lab. Ooops, got that wrong didn't they. How about the Trump Russian Collusion hoax? They missed on that one too. Wait, the Hunter Biden laptop was Russian disinformation? Nope it was really Hunter's laptop. Oh, and the Joe Biden is fit as a fiddle and a cognitive dynamo behind closed doors. So with the record of these high profile claims why should we trust these "fact checkers"?

This is a well-known phenomenon, and psychologists and sociologists have studied it carefully- as well as possible reasons why this is the case.

Todays maga conservatives rely heavily on conspiracy theories. They are at the core of so much of the maga messaging, that any sort of serious fact checking could be incredibly damaging for them. So it is painfully obvious why maga conservatives are the most vocal against fact checking.

Think of just current stuff like Trumps claim that 75 countries are begging to negotiate trade with him due to his tariffs. As soon as someone tries to fact check that data, the maga government flat out refuses to share any details. Why? Because they know that if they mention countries as being on that 75 country list, who are not in reality reaching out to Trump, those countries will probably say so, and another maga lie will be exposed. Take the endless claims from DOGE that keep on being exposed as outright lies and hyperbole. Even the bits that they can't stop being fact checked are damning, let alone letting fact checkers get hold of all the data. Under Trump, this has become a core of the maga messaging model. This is also why Trump rants so much about wanting to control the media. He absolutely hates having his lies exposed.

Exactly.

Don't threaten my propaganda with your facts!

If you're in the middle of negotiations you can't tell the public or you risk derailing your progress. You don't want to hear... county X got 14% what about us?

The 'fact check' is nothing more than a meme and a vehicle to provide one side of an issue. In the end you have to do your own fact checking and you still might be wrong.

Firstly, they are not in the middle of negotiations. They are barely even getting started, if they have even started. Unlike Trump, other countries will take this seriously and try to do proper modelling and understand what is reasonable. Secondly, all the media asked for was who the 75 countries are. Not any other details. Trump had up to that point had no trouble proudly telling the world that President XYZ from country ABC has called because of the tariffs. Even the number '75', rather than say 73 or 76 etc sounds like a number someone just invented when asked.

This kind of stuff is by far and away the most insidious part of MAGA. Even if I grant you that everything you say is true, you totally misunderstand what the role and function of government actually is. It should be immediately obvious to anyone who is above the age of 12 years old that any institution (especially government) is going to have some level of impropriety and deception in order to maintain a popular consensus and national unity.

You could maybe validly argue from your moral pedestal if the Trump administration was completely free of debauchery and corruption, but it obviously isn't and many would argue it's far worse. The only thing you're doing is eroding trust and the social fabric in a system that has served the nation incredibly well. 'The deep state' is responsible for creating the American empire and making us a mega-superpower the likes of which the world has never seen.

The loss of the WASP status quo and the embrace of a new chaotic age while we wait for a new overlord is going to be filled with populist demagogues like Trump selling regressive snake oil instead of proposing a meaningful progressive alternative.

What? You seem to have confused what a fact is with what an opinion is. That's pretty bad!

In other words, "Yes".

You should have read Legacy Media not MAGA horse manure. If you had you would have know that we were no sure.
BTW, please explain teh Wuhan conspiracy, the "liberal" cover up. What was the object of a cover up?
I never did understand this part of the nut jobbers conspiracy theory.

You cannot control countries communicating among themselves unless they sign up to a non-disclosure agreement. And if they sign up to one, they're going to make you sign up to it to because they don't want Trump telling your own people what's happening because that's you job to do. Negotiations is a delicate stage for everyone, you can't just tell the public and screw around with their expectations.

This is an interesting idea, but I wonder how true it is. I just printed the 9 page study, and the supplement with the questions is 42 paging that I printed.

The question the study team selected are important as they are using their bias in selection, and will, affect the end result.

I am amazed you easily you lefties believe material like this without verification. The call us right leaning people the dumb ones.

Fact checking discriminates against and exposes lies, errors, ignorance, and stupidity.

The problem, which you clearly illustrate, is that MAGA hears a Trump bumper sticker phrase, mentally arranges it to fit their narrative and then stops listening.
Wuhan! Collusion! Laptop! Unfit!
You can't reason with a person who won't process the fact that two things can be true at once.

Amen to all that, but you left out the most egregious 'fact check' yet.

Ample evidence suggests Jan. 6th actually was simply a kegger that got out of hand thanks to BLM/Antifa agitators likely paid by Soros, but those who listen to lame-stream media like NPR/PBS still think Jan. 6th was a poorly organized coup attempt.

Their disconnect from reality is extreme.

MAGA.

Most fact checkers are made by lefties, so the fact checkers themself start with a bias.

What? You seem to have confused what a fact is with what an opinion is. That's pretty bad!
If you're talking politics almost everything is actually an opinion.
