If you don't think Trump lies a lot then you obviously don't pay attention to what he says and does.

He's completely unable to go a few hours without making a blatant lie and then doubling and trippleing down on that lie.
It's just who he is.

Trump said in July 2020 during an interview with Chris Wallace on FOX that he was signing a complete and comprehensive health care bill "in two weeks".

That is a direct quote from Trump. That was not semantics.
 
He does lie all the time, but I will partially disagree with it always being intentional, especially the part about "he knows his audience". While I do think that is partially it, I think his lying is much more pathological than that. I truly believe a lot of his lies are about him protecting his ego rather than absolute pandering.

Like I keep coming back to, the hurricane one is the biggest example of this. It really was one of the most irrational and unnecessary lies I've ever seen in politics. There was absolutely no benefit to his political career by lying about that, about not just saying "well I made a mistake, moving on" or even just ignoring those making fun of him for screwing up which states would be in the changed path of the hurricane in his tweet. But his ego is so huge that he couldn't just let it go. He had to make up so many lies to pretend he was right when he clearly wasn't. Now of course most MAGA simply ignore this one, think it is so small that it doesn't matter anyway. But to me it shows the level of narcissism he actually holds simply because of how small that particular mistake really should have been but how big it became through his lies.

However, maybe his lies are just alternative facts and what we consider a truth might not be a truth.

Trump could be on live national TV saying he's going to do something in the next 48 hours and his fans would find a way to claim that wasn't a solid deadline and shouldn't be held to it.
Reality is what they claim it is and Trump can change it at will.

Rightwing response: It's coming, just give it time, believe us, we know it's coming, a new and better healthcare plan is in the works, definitely by the end of the year, well, maybe next year, well maybe by the end of his term, and if he can't get it passed it will be Joe Biden's fault, it will be because of influence from George Soros, the Globalists, a do-nothing Congress, Leftist media, and other outside factors.

We all know if Jesus were to pop down and perform a few obvious miricles to prove his Jesusness and then denounce Trump that Trump fans would claim Jesus has TDS and start a hate campaign against him.
They're just that deep into the cult.
 
Trumps plan for healthcare is if you can't pay for treatment then prepare for death.

All politicians lie. Trump just does it much more gleefully than all others. He likes to hear himself talk, and I believe he gets off on the left's response to his shtick.

So, if someone said to me, everyone lies, I should do it too? And if I do it to just hear myself talk and because I get off on how other people respond, then I should just go ahead and lie anyways?
 
The answer is yes, sort of.

Trump lies. When he promised a very detailed report in two weeks on the stolen election. I think it’s been two years now. Nothing. That is an obvious lie. When he answers that he doesn’t know if he has to uphold the Constitution that is his waffling and refusing to answer as he does when question in court related matters.

Trump also believes the lies are true. The eating the pets he believed. Trump believes that he is smarter than everyone so he just knows things. He knows a lot more about ISIS than the Generals (actual quote) as one example.

Now partly that can be explained as Arrogance. But mostly it is his refusal to hear alternative ideals. If you work for Trump, you are a Bobblehead who nods and agrees and flatters Trump with every interaction.

But isn't lying a test of character? Everyone was applauding Jimmy Carter for the life he lived, including conservatives, and a large part of that was for his honesty (even if his foreign policies sucked).

We value honesty, or do we? Is a comfortable lie better than the hearing the truth? Can a man who can't be honest be truly trusted? Or are we labeling someone as a liar who isn't?
