Kandahar said:I agree that conservatives should vote for Democrats in the upcoming elections, but it has nothing to do with one side keeping their campaign promises IMO.
When the White House and Congress are controlled by opposing parties, there is more gridlock and government doesn't grow as fast. When they're controlled by the same party (regardless of which one), they tend to egg each other on and give themselves even more taxpayer money.
If the ultimate goal of conservatism is to shrink the size of the federal government, vote for a Democrat this fall.
Kandahar said:I'm not from PA, but I find Rick Santorum to be just awful. One of the most vile members of the US Senate, and that's really saying something. He's happy to wear the conservative badge when it helps him, but consistently votes for bigger government.
I don't know if Bob Casey will be any better, but he can't possibly be much worse. I'll relish Santorum's landslide defeat.![]()

The Mark said:I wouldn't be too sure about that landslide thing.
But I'm leaning towards the Libertarian candidate, so I might help your wish along.
Navy Pride said:You do know that by voting for the Libertarian candidate you are helping to elect the democrat.........
Navy Pride said:I am originally from Western Pa., Altoona to be exact and my relatives tell me this race is a lot closer then Democrats want to admit and they say Santorum has really gained a lot of momentum...............There was a debate on meet the Press on Sunday and Santorum really handed Casey his lunch.....
The Mark said:Yes, I know. And that's why am only leaning towards the Libertarian candidate.
I have to make a choice between my fear of the huge problems that will happen if Bob Casey is elected, and my political points of view which pull me towards voting for the Libertarian candidate, Tom Martin.
As far as I know, your information is correct.
Not sure about the debate however.
But I can wish that the Libertarian would win....

poor thread
too many congressmen for a coherent discussion
Navy Pride said:Well Matthews was just talking to a couple of Liberals about the debate on Hardball and they both said it was a tie so that tells me Santorum won big time.........
Navy Pride said:I guess you did not read the line about failed social programs.....
Navy Pride said:It really has to stick in the craws of the democrats to support Bob Casey who is almost as Conservative as Santorum...............
Kandahar said:I don't have any illusions that the government will get smaller with the Democrats in control of Congress, but at least the growth will (hopefully) slow down somewhat because of the gridlock.
As for social programs, you are quite right that most of them are failures. But when Republicans control the entire government, they abandon their small government principles and pass their OWN abominations like the prescription drug benefit and No Child Left Behind. Maybe a few years in the political wilderness will do them good.
Navy Pride said:Since I am retired I don't have to pay for my prescription drugs but I have friends that do and they tell me that the costs for their prescription drugs has been cut in half under the new medicare prescription drug bill.......
Navy Pride said:I will tell you something sometimes in a very weak moment I almost wish the dems would take over the congress so I can bitch and complain about everything they try to do but then I come to my senses and realize that is not a good idea...........
Navy Pride said:I could never get use to kissing the corrupt Germans and French asses.......
Kandahar said:What's your point? It's another massive socialist welfare program that will ultimately fail and contribute to our ballooning government. Are you saying that you support this monstrosity, just after you finished talking about how social programs tend to fail? I wonder why...
You're missing the point. If one party controls Congress and the other party controls the White House, there is less of a potential for government to expand. People should bitch about almost everything Congress does, because 99% of the time they make government BIGGER.
Gridlock is good. If the Democrats were in the majority in Congress and they had proposed that prescription drug plan, Bush would have almost certainly vetoed it under heavy pressure from the GOP. If the Democrats had the White House, the Republicans in Congress would never have even let that bill see the light of day.
Only when one party controls both the legislature and the executive is there enough cronyism to allow such a terrible bill to become law.
George Bush has been doing quite a bit of that lately.
Navy Pride said:I am saying that no matter how much in their talking points they put the prescription drug program down that it has been a huge success..........
