Actually, I wasn't I have a new boss myself and well... it's an adjustment.

Okay, now that I'm at an actual keyboard and not using my phone (hate that thing)...

A month ago they had a reorganization of the company I work for. I have a new Director and she just handles things a lot differently. She's trying to get used to her management team, we're trying to get used to her, etc...

The one thing I do like about her though, is that she listens and acts quickly. Whereas my previous Director mulled things over a bit more - sometimes too much and it got to be frustrating sometimes.

I do like the kind of boss that is direct and to the point. I don't have time for sugar coating bs., I just want to know what I'm supposed to be doing, how I'm doing and where I can make improvements. I also think it's important to get feedback from the staff that I supervise. I always try to treat others the way I would want to be treated, but sometimes that can backfire if you aren't direct.

Any particular job prospects you're looking into?

X-Ray Technician, it's what I'm going for. I'll finally be done with my core classes by next summer and can actually start the radiology program next year. Thank the heavens!

Sounds good! I'll let you know in X-number of years how my job prospects are looking. You are probably in a better slot :P

Yeah, that's why I'm doing it. It's one of the only area's of work that is always hiring. Plus I'll be making pretty good money around 40-50K starting out, depending on where I end up working.

I don't see myself doing this forever, but it'll get me out of my parents house, and financially independent.

My Captain is probably the greatest man I've ever known. I just couldn't imagine having come into this profession under anyone else's leadership.

This guy knows everything there is to know about tactical rescues and fighting fire. You give him a pair of gym socks, a shoelace, a couple Hefty bags and a carabiner, and he'll show you how to rig up a hasty harness that will enable you to carry a 250 pound unconscious man out of harms way on your back. He was BORN in the ****. He is MacGuyver with a mustache. Also, I'm pretty sure he could arm wrestle a grizzly bear... lefty.

He is funny, charming, fatherly, and fearless. The type of man's man that puts the room in an uproar when he's joking and being social, but brings complete silence and causes everyone to lean in and listen intently if his voice becomes even slightly serious. He commands respect by mere presence and persona.

Most of all, he is all heart. Truly a gentle giant. I've seen him make a gangbanger piss himself (literally), and I've also seen him give mouth-to-mouth to a puppy and get all misty-eyed when the damn thing just wouldn't wake up. When we get back from a particularly bad call after dealing with something really disturbing, he always gathers us together to talk about it right away. And he has a way of coaxing this emotion out us, without making us feel like a bunch of pansies about it.

I dunno. Ten pages wouldn't be enough for me to describe the adulation I feel towards this man. I want to be just like him someday.

Are you sure you're not smooching my tooshy?

Nope. No ass kissing involved. Well maybe that last part ;)

I was being completely honest. You are someone I look up to. I'm thankful that you are my boss and friend. Your an inspirstion. Your very smart, funny, and you talk shyt very well. That is probably my favorite quality of yours :)

Word. Triple. OG. Triple.

Change is always difficult at first. In time things will fall into place. We are all getting used to the changes. This is exactly why you are a great boss, you want feedback and you listen to our conerns. we all think your doing a great job and im sure our new director does too.

My boss is pretty decent. Not great, but okay. His biggest problem is that he's very passive about everything. He doesn't do a whole lot for us without someone giving him a nudge forward to do it. He's a nice guy though, and pretty laid back.

I was unable to vote.

There is no 'S/he's a pathetic weakling and utter scumbag' option.

I own my own business so I guess technically I am my own boss. That said I have my main contract with a company out of Maryland and the owners are really good people. I consider them my bosses because they write my company a check each week. As a contractor I have to do things the way they want them done, but that's fine. They still accept input from me and utilize it frequently. I feel it is a great partnership and we have increased the size of business every year we have worked together. Even with the huge distance our two companies are apart we still work as a team.

I really have no complaints other than things are so busy right now I believe I need to hire another associate. We will see what the new year brings.

Okay, folks.

If you work for someone else, what do you think of them? Do you get along with them? Do they strike the fear of life and limb in you? Are they pushovers and unworthy of your respect?

I've had several types of supervisors/bosses in my time. I've had very good ones that I aspired to become more like - and then I had the ones that I often times wondered, "How the hell did this person get put in charge of anything?!" :)

So let's hear it, people of DP.

Do you like your boss, or do you refer to them as your bosshole?

My new boss is pretty awesome

1. He tells me clearly what my job is and what his expectations are
2. He gets out of the way and lets me do my job
3. He offers assistance when I ask for it
4. He gives advice if its something he has experience with but doesn't hold me to his methods.
5. He has a sense of humor

That's all I ask for in a boss, really.

I've had lots of bosses that sucked, that were petty tinhorn tyrants and mean as hell, and/or incompetent to tie their own shoes.

Right now though, my boss totally rocks. He is competent, on top of things, a really nice and friendly guy. He knows how to be authoritative without being an asshole, which is apparently a rare skill.

Mostly, I'm my own boss. I mean, I have a boss, but so long as I produce, I hardly ever see him and he leaves me entirely alone. I can't tell you the last time he had anything bad to say to me.

Sounds awesome. Wish more bosses took the approach of "as long as it aint' broke, leave it alone" to heart.

He's got enough crap to worry about without bothering the few of us who are actually doing our jobs.

I have, in the past, had too many who had a nasty habit of ****ing with anyone who was doing too good of a job.... for whatever twisted idiotic reason.

Their own egos or fears of being outshined or something I guess. Who knows what goes on in the mind of a mislaid brick.

Well, in my case, his entire bonus structure is based around the success of the people under him. If we don't perform at a high level, he gets nothing. Therefore, he doesn't mess with those of us who make him look good, he concentrates on those who don't.
