I never liked Presidential pardon power. I remember not liking it under Clinton. But under Trump it has been exposed as too easy to abuse to the point of outright corruption. We should eliminate all presidential powers that can be too easily corrupted. That is the only positive lesson to take from Trump’s presidency. It is time to revisit all Congressional acts that he has used as loopholes to abuse presidential power. But now we have to depend on Congress to absorb this lesson and take action ASAP. I am not hopeful.

What's your opinion?
You could consider looking at the poll. Unlike you, the OP doesn't require that posters participate in order to see the results. And she certainly won't stalk people demanding that they participate -- like someone else we know.

Well, she did "job" my memory, so there's that. 😉

Under the U.S. Constitution, the President has the power to grant pardons for federal crimes. This poll asks your opinion on whether that power should be limited.
I have always been against pardons from presidents or governors.

Now, with Trump using them as a political weapon, it is more important than ever.

I did. She hadn’t voted.

I look forward to seeing you criticize others who do the same thing.

Now - what’s your opinion on the actual topic?

To be fair, if you had read the thread before going straight to the gotcha, you should have been able to figure out some of my viewpoint about the issue from my thread comments.

Pardon me.

It is in the Constitution.
But funny you bring up Presidential pardons when Trump is president but were strangely silent when Biden pardon his son and most his staff and made back by ten years to cover all their bases.

It's funny that you didn't read the short thread before swooping in to try a gotcha. Read my post #5.

Not sure.
Should we tie the hands of future presidents because Trump Biden has poor judgement and lacks restraint?
FIFY

Meh. Why are you always trying to force people to participate in polls? What's it to you?

Criticize others for chasing down votes the way you do? Point them out.

This thread isn’t about me.

I propose the following amendment to limit presidential pardons:

AMENDMENT XXVIII: The Pardon Power
Section 1

The president shall not have the power to pardon himself or herself, or commute his or her own sentences for crimes.

Section 2
The president's pardons or commutations of any of the following people shall be subject to review by the House of Representatives: Anyone who has served as president, or held an office in the presidential line of succession (regardless of their personal eligibility), in the past eight years; anyone who has served in the US Congress in the past eight years; anyone who has served as a federal judge in the past eight years; any family members of the president.

Section 3
The House of Representatives shall have four months to review any such pardon or commutation. It may approve the pardon or commutation with a majority vote. If it fails to do so within four months, or if the president leaves office for any reason before the House of Representative acts, the pardon or commutation shall be considered null and void.

Under no circumstances shall the president issue such a pardon or commutation within the final four months of his or her scheduled term.

Presidents should only be empowered to pardon if done at least 90 days Before the end of their term, and fully publicized. That way the voters can punish the President or his party at the polls.

New day, news of new pardons! One is a guy convicted of murder. WTH?

I think a Presidential pardon should only be valid for crimes a person was actually convicted of and not crimes they might have committed in the past or future.

My, how soon we forget.
True...when Bill Clinton pardoned Marc Rich after his wife donated to the Clinton foundation. Rich was convicted of tax fraud and fled to France before he was jailed. I remember this case and the lack of comments by the left.
Now about Trump pardoning people is just as bad as what Clinton did it. I disagreed with these types of pardons.
Now with that said I disagreed with Biden pardoning his son and his family. In fact I wonder if Hunter didn't write out his own pardon and had it signed with Biden auto pen.
