I'm just curious because it's something that perplexes me. I can honestly say I don't care at all about the BLM movement. It doesn't make me angry, happy, or anything else. But the volcanic emotions it brings about from people who seem the least touched by its activities is continually surprising.

Edit: Upon further reflection I think the furious reactions to it are generally more telling about that particular individuals 'anxiety' about the broader 'culture war' that we hear so much about.

Same here. It's a powerless movement that won't exist two years from now.

It's like that Simpson's Treehouse of Horror episode where the advertising monsters keel over and die when the citizens of Springfield just stop paying attention to them.

I think the cause is a good one, but how they've gone about it and the individuals they've chosen as martyrs provided the seeds for its own destruction.

So meh.

I don't have a great deal of enthusiasm either way on BLM.

I think some of the stuff they bring attention to is valid. I think we could do a better job training our police and holding police accountable for their behavior.
 
I used to when it was a focused effort about ending actual brutality and legal system injustice, but then they started to do senseless fringe **** like interrupt a parade in *toronto* and yeah, i could only laugh at cartman's "token's life matters" shirt

I support it. I think that it's fighting for a just cause.
 
The original intent (I believe) was to call attention to Blacks being killed or maimed by police....

This was hijacked/mutated along the way.

One of the problems is that often the movement sometimes glorified people who's only "redeeming" trait is that they died at the hands of police.

I find it somewhat disturbing and am not sure, what to make of it. Certainly it is absurd that it is seemingly directed malevolently at Whites, when it is Blacks that disrespect Blacks' lives in such great number. The catchy name stands very much at odds with this with certainly some reason for discontent in other respects.
 
The problem with BLM is that ANYBODY can say they are BLM and then do or say whatever they want and thats typically what gets cast in the media and story's, hence the false narrative that its a violent and racist movement.

I can only speak for what I know and when I went to the local BLM to check it out it was AWESOME! SO I went to another and that one was awesome too. Funny they never really made anything more than the local news though. Why? because it was fun, peaceful, positive and very productive. All races, age groups were there including many police officers also PART of BLM. It was basically like a fair or city picnic. Stages and public speakers and forums. Food and events and a basically a town hall.

Thats the BLM I know and yes i ended up caring very much like many people in my city do.

As for the nutters that claim BLM and do crazy violent things or show up at BLM events and do crazy violent things, those nutters are meaningless to me.

I know someone with dyslexia and when she saw the words BLM for the first time she turned to me and said, "What's LBM?"

I honestly had no idea what BLM meant - even after I Googled it.

It was only after reading a couple more posts that I got it.

No. I could care less about the BLM Movement at this point. It's turned into such a giant mess that I just can't bring myself to support the movement anymore.

I guess I can agree with quite a bit of the sentiment behind the movement, but the way they tend to go about things just kills it for me. And on top of that, they're also incredibly divisive.
 
They were always misguided, and having no competent leadership doomed them to irrelevance. There is nothing meaningful happening to care about.

It doesn't do anything for me either other than offer an education in sociology.

I do think is its either misunderstood or deliberately portrayed in a negative light by some. To say the name of the organization indicates is racist because the name isn't "all lives matter," is like saying every time we say "God Bless America" is as ridiculous as suggesting we want all other countries to be cursed by God.

Of course, all lives matter, but the context of the movement is they believe society has forgotten about the value of the lives of blacks, particularly young black males. I don't know if calling the movement racist is an honest misunderstanding on deliberate propaganda spin in order to marginalize its influence for some reason. It they want to be picky, a more accurate name for the movement could be Black Lives Matter Too while is opponents act like they're suggesting its Only Black Lives Matter.

Additionally, I've seen video of a significant number of people of other races in some of their rallies on TV.
 
The BLM movement doesn't concern me but some of the childish stunts they pull do. Disrupting diners in restaurants and standing on runaways in airports irritate me.

What irritates me the most, however, are the organizations that try to make the BLM a significant and credible group when they're supposed to be concerned about the country.
 
Any group that advocates the killing of Police officers is worst than the KKK.
 
I wonder how many people on this thread discussing a Black issue are Black.

I believe that African Americans suffer a lot of discrimination in USA -- including police violence. I am not African American so I do not know much. Jews in USSR were in a very similar position.

I do not know. In 1970s some Jews in USSR also thought about a terrible crime -- treason in the Cold War and siding with USA. Both groups have been Minorities discriminated against by Majority.
 
Groups like BLM, Occupy, and Aninymous are always mixed bags. They have no hierarchical structure so it is a lot of individual groups doing their own thing under the same banner. Some of them use tactics I like and some use tactics I find counterproductive or even wrong.

I don't live near the neighborhoods they burn down, so I guess I don't really care much about them one way or the other.
 
It's the intellectual dishonesty that makes me shove away from it.

It's all such bulls#%t, and based upon a complete pack of lies.

If there was some substance or actual foundation in truth to their grievances, I could get behind it, but as it is, I have no use for it.

A bunch of unhappy people, whipped-up into a frenzy by dishonest politicians and the mainstream media, and to what end?
More unhappy losers guaranteed to vote for one political Party over another?

That's what happens with most movements. The "shinyness" wears off and the media latches onto the next story-du-jour. If the movement (speaking generically, any movement) is legit it needs to keep doing things like you described here. Change often happens slowly and in the background, and the type of change advocated here is huge and will take time.
