Do running mates influence your choice for president?

Not usually....but it can make a difference. So for me...it isn't a yes/no....so I can't answer the poll.

Yes.

Are your polls usually this popular?

Your thoughts please:

Yes,if McCain Picked Tom Tancredo,Duncan Hunter or Sam Brown back as his running mate and McCain was on the verge of a life threatening heart attack I would vote for McCain.

Unfortunately James none of those guys are in the running but I agree with you I would take any of them in a New York heartbeat..

Usually not. However, I guess if I were a McCain supporter it probably would matter simply because of his age

Usually though, I don't think it matters a lot.

Yeah and if I was a Obama supporter it would be anyone that knew anything about foreign policy because he sure doesn't....

I suppose if I were a Democrat or Republican, I would want a somewhat competent VP.

It's funnier when they pick a moron like Quayle or a pyschopath like Cheney, though.

I kinda have my heart set on McCain choosing Inhofe.

"Nutty and Nuttier".

Yes, because if McCain picked Tom Tancredo as his running mate and was on the verge of a life threatening heart attack - thus putting Tom Tancredo's hand on our nuclear arsenal - I'd vote for Obama.

In your opinion....

Anybody that wants to negotiate with a terrorist state president to president without any pre conditions is clueless and very dangerous when it comes to foreign policy and that is exactly what he said in a debate..........He is back pedaling now but it is way to late for that...................

I seriously doubt if you would vote for McCain under any circumstances.......

That would include Bush, and McCain.

Whoopsie.

If Clinton was the Democratic nominee. But she's not going to be, which I'm quite happy about. I'm not entirely sold on Obama either.

But I'll refer to you before I make any final decisions. ;)

You do know that it was revealed yesterday that the Israeli leadership is negotiating with Syria.......kinda puts a damper on that whole argument now doesn't it?

So you would want a Neville Chamberlain in office instead of someone who would do what it takes to stop our enemies?

Well it would affect it if they choose somebody really, really off the wall. Like McCain/Pelosi '08. But that doesn't happen, so I don't think it matters a whole lot. But I expect this election to be very close, so every little bit would count.

It has in the past. Obviously I've been on the McCain wagon for a long time, and as for the first time in my politically active life my candidate won the primary, so clearly VP isn't going to make any difference in this election. In 2000 (when I supported McCain and Bradley in the primary) I was leaning towards Gore until he picked Lieberman, which sent me clearly into the Bush column over the censorship issue. In 2004 (when I supported Wesley Clark in the primary) I was undecided leaning towards Kerry until he picked Edwards sending me into a completely **** both parties position.

Its interesting how those choices affected your decisions.....I completely agree with the Lieberman choice for the same exact reason. I thought that Gore could have done so much better....However, for me.....Edwards was the only one that I liked on the Kerry/Edwards ticket.....

I know that it would never happen....but I would love to see either McCain or Obama go with a shocking choice and cross the aisle for their VP....I doubt it would change my vote....but it would definitely show a different way of doing politics!

DD, what the hell does that have to do with the USA.......We are not Israel..............

Absolutely.

For example, I'm almost assuredly going to vote for Obama right now, but if he puts Clinton on the ticket, I'll probably reconsider. I live in Illinois, which he's gonna win anyway, so I won't feel too bad about it. But, honestly, even if Illinois were going to be tight, I'm not sure I could vote for him with Clinton as his VP. She goes against his entire message so far.

On the flip side, it'd take an act of god to get me to vote for McCain, but if Clinton were Obama's VP and McCain chose Romney, I'd be more likely to vote for McCain.

I make these choices mostly not based upon anything happening to the Presidential candidate but based upon the fact that the VP pick is likely going to be the nominee in 8 years if they make that far.
