In my lifetime, I have never seen a President try to divided a country more than Obama. The examples are too numerous to list.
To be honest, lately I've been feeling like it was 1978. Misery index, nuclear whatnot, foreign threats, and no leadership...
In my lifetime, I have never seen a President try to divided a country more than Obama. He campaigned on being the great uniter and ends up being just the opposite. The examples are too numerous to list.
I don't think the President (any President) is dividing the country. I don't even think that the country is really that divided relative to the historical record. I think the polarization of Congress as an institution, and the advent of the 24 hour news cycle and the age of social media give people the IMPRESSION that the country is divided.
I don't really think the country is all that divided, I think our government is and it is contributing to their failure to govern.

How old are you?
So basically the liberal argument is this..
We the people elect the representatives.
We the people are not divided.
The representatives we elect are divided.
:lamo
What do you think he should be doing about the misery index and nuclear whatnot (and how does that even relate to this thread)?
My argument has jack to do with liberalism. Congress as an institution is more polarized than the general populace or even just the general electorate. There are systematic reasons for this.

My point was it reminds me of the Carter years. Doom and gloom, high energy prices, everyone in a panic about something, foreign threats multiplying... and no sign of effective leadership.
Which didn't answer my question.
And you expect me to have all the solutions that the government seems unable to devise... why?
Well, before you criticize leadership perhaps you should form an opinion on what you think it should be doing instead.
I have my opinions on what should be done, naturally... and we could derail this thread talking about the specifics of dozens of issues.
But the point is that things are not looking good and most people have no confidence in our country's leadership, and I pointed out how much this reminded me of the late 70s.
If I had all the answers, bud, I'd run for Prez myself... :lamo

Same here, but I don't think Carter was trying to divide the country politically. I believe his intentions were good. I can't really say the same about the current prez.
Curse Obama for going what he thinks is best rather than following a populist agenda!
