A group of disabled seniors in East Oakland said they’re forced to ride their wheelchairs into the street because of an encampment obstructing the sidewalk.

Houston, who represents deep East Oakland, told KTVU the encampment has been removed twice but it keeps coming back.

"It’s on the radar and we’re going to come out, and these seniors should be protected," said Houston.

Under city policy, Public Works crews cannot remove personal property from an encampment, Maher said in an email.

"We recognize the impacts of issues like this to public safety and public health, and will continue to work with our community and with our elected officials to advance solutions," Maher wrote in a statement.

He encouraged residents to continue calling 311 and raising their voices about their concerns so that the city can "use that data to drive our resources and operations."

Houston told KTVU he plans to introduce an encampment abatement policy to city council in the next few weeks to address the holes in the current policy.

It's a blue city that can't keep shit, homeless encampments and trash off the sidewalks. So disabled seniors have to drive their wheelchairs into the street.

After some more platitudes and time passes, maybe they'll change that policy. If you try really, really hard then maybe you'll make enough of a difference that you can still use the sidewalk while it still has shit, and and homeless encampments and trash but it will at least not be blocking the sidewalk as much.

This is just because these blue cities have such low tax rates and no public services or employees to address these problems. Oh wait, reverse that. They have all those things and still just don't address it.

So aspirational. However it Democrats don't win the next election cycle it was probably because of misinformation, Republican conspiracies and bad messaging by Democrats. Oh and don't forget you can't point out a problem if you still live there. You can't expect improvement. You solve the problem by fleeing it.

Yes, but the actual law being broken is very minor, legally speaking, and can not be used to perpetually incarcerate. Solutions must be had or sad realities will happen.

Because there are so many, it isn't worth the expense of the manpower hours to constantly cycle through arrest, jail, court, etc everywhere while getting not even fines and costs because the people have no money. Even if they do that full time, authorities can't keep up, they'll spread out and move around a bit, then recoalesce when the enforcement goes down. They're safer in groups.
