We do report fraud, but I'm saying it still happens. Many people have high blood pressure. The physician can prove they have high blood pressure and say Viagra was a treatment (even though it was for ED). I've even seen prescribers write for a higher dose of drugs (viagra and other meds) and told the patient to break them in half so that they can get more pills for their money. This is also fraud and we call out on it all the time. Although, when it comes to Medicaid my main problem is the coverage of narcotics and their abuse.
Did you hear about that fraud case here in Dallasw. Some Dr was signing up homeless people for in home nursing care! It was something like 300 million the guy got.
No 70+ year old should have any sort of transplant... it is a waste of money and resources.. no wonder the US healthcare industry is so screwed up.. money and influence trumps over logic.
Transplant?
In Cheney's case, shouldn't the correct term be "implant".
No, I haven't heard about that. The rampant abuse makes me sad. I support a national healthcare plan. I have moral conflicts seeing working families have to bite the bullet or have to come back the next day to get an expensive antibiotic for their child while some sleazy low life on Medicaid gets all their drug addictions funded (they also tend to act like royal assholes in the pharmacy). Not generalizing all on Medicaid, just pointing out where I have my ethical conflicts.
Yeah those people really piss me off because it really is a great program. Disability has been wonder for me and now Im looking forward to going into vocational rehabilitation.
I wish you a swift and complete recovery.
Back to the topic, I'm shocked that so many are of the opinion that Cheney should just die because he's older and be denied a heart transplant (especially when we don't know the facts regarding his wait time or the match availability of the donor).
Most people don't realize all factors that go into a heart transplant.
In another thread I was asking for a reality check in regard to health and recovery for the elderly - so I'll feed it in here.
Honestly - he shouldn't have accepted the transplant. He should have said 'no'. He's 71. How much longer will he live? What will he do with his future? He'll live, what - 15 more years, maybe? IF he makes it past the initial recovery period?
How many more elligible people - mothers, fathers, teachers - are on transplant lists who could live for 30, 40 or 50 more years and have much more of a possitive impact on teh world and society and their families lives than Cheney?
the issue is not his age.
the issue, is his general health, and how long this new heart will help him.
I'd rather this heart go to someone that can extend life 10..or 15...or 35 years.
if this heart could have instead gone to someone like that, rather than a guy who's life might be extended a mere 5 years, then I believe a mistake was made.
Cheney can live to be 81 or 86, that would meet your 10-15 years....

on the contrary, I heard on CBS news today that the heart may give him another 5 years.
His problem was the heart not the other organs. Trust me people are fully vetted in the US heart transplant system. I know since I have taken part in it.

Hog wash.. it is utterly corrupt. Else why would an alcoholic get a freaking liver transplant? oh yea he was rich.. Google Larry Hagman...
Cheney should never have been on any transplant list period. He is 70+ years old. That heart would have been better in someone younger. This is a wasted heart pure and simple.
And before you think it is because it is Cheney .. then no.. If it had been my own mother or father, then I would have said the same thing.
Organs are a rare commodity and should go to those who are most in need and have a long life ahead of them.

Cheney's life is precious to him and everyone that loves him, He is entitled to every day of life he can get. When you start down this road of measuring who's life is more valuable based on age, health, contribution to society etc you start down a very slippery slope. How long until you decide who gets a transplant based on IQ or race or politics. This is where the death panel thing started, who decides who is worthy of health care and who isn't?
It's a good thing you can do triage and make medical decisions for some one you have never met while sitting at your computer.
I wouldn't trust that. In our country the only way CBS would know is if Cheney himself released his medical records and said he is only going to get about 5 years on it.....
sorry, but I trust CBS. I see no reason for them to lie on such a matter.
